The billion dollar question now is: how long can this last? Stanford grads are now having a hard time getting jobs in tech. Maybe that is a localized issue due to AI. But there is a vast gap between the idea that the market is on a roll and silver is going through the roof for silver investors, and meanwhile the average working class American is on the edge. The verdict is already in that, even though the economy is holding together and stocks are up for the year, Trump got his ass kicked in a bunch of elections last Fall. If I had to bet, I would bet heavily on Democrats taking the House this year. The odds in the Senate are still less than 50/50, but they are growing by the day. So there will likely be a bigger check on his power by the end of the year. Republicans are starting to mouth out a little bit. We had our lovely Marjorie Taylor Green moment. Bless her heart. I am no Chuck Schumer fan. But he had predicted when Trump's disapproval gets to 55 %, Republicans will start working with Democrats. And they have, to some extent. If there is any Democrat who should, in theory, be able to win in what I will call a predominantly MAGA White state, it is Sherrod Brown. And Brown lost to Moreno in 2024. But Brown is on the ballot again, running against Moreno's Republican colleague. If Democrats do win Ohio, they will probably win Maine and North Carolina as well. So Democrats would need to win Iowa, or Florida, or Texas. I would bet on Iowa. That was back when some people I knew kind of thought I was kind of un-American for not rallying around the flag. No such thing now. My guess is the 1 in 3 who support Trump on this are the same crew that support him still on wrecking the Capitol to save his ass when he lost in 2020. @lookin correctly calls them authoritarian followers. They have rallied hard around Trump. As Joe Klein, one of my favorite moderate writers, said in a new article, "What Could Possibly Go Wrong?" I think 33 % is probably as good as it gets for Trump. Lots can and may go wrong. And even his supporters know it.
