The growing lack of respect for law and order in this country disgusts me. It is not like we are some shit hole country in Africa or Asia or whatever. We are the United States of America. African Americans know this better than most Americans. That is why they voted overwhelmingly for President Trump and for STRENGTH and TRUTH and ORDER. Here are just a few African Americans, including a former police officer, who speak up about all the things that President Trump is doing right. Blacks know better than anyone that people who choose to come to America should do it legally. And love their country. And there you have it. Thank God for President Trump and ICE and Black police officers who ignore the socialists and haters and just speak common sense.

In fairness, this is a matter of perspective. @Barknaway can't speak, Sis. You know that. He can only bark. And he is busy biting and killing socialist radicals in Minnesota. So let me make the argument for my Republican friends and family members. At least the GOP is promoting equal opportunity. They took away free admission to national parks on MLK Day and Juneteenth. When you think of it, why honor any Black man? Even if he was a Republican? I'm sure almost all Blacks agree. It makes so much more sense to honor our President instead. He actually achieved peace and freedom, even if he got no credit for it. Meanwhile, Republicans are working hard to promote equal opportunity among poor kids of all races. It doesn't matter whether you are Black, or White, or Hispanic, or Asian, or even Gay. Thanks to the GOP, and cuts to SNAP and Obamacare, all poor children will have an equal and better chance to go hungry. Or not have health care. Yeah, @Barknaway is extreme and applauds when innocent people are killed. But Republicans have not all gone to the dogs. We need to give credit where credit is due.

It's actually worse than that, SIs. Republicans are worried about Trump’s deportation campaign, and our new poll shows why A slim majority of voters still support Trump’s deportation agenda, but the GOP base is splintering over tactics. We learned in 2024 that you do not have to win 50 % of the votes to be elected POTUS, and unleash hell on Earth. While you pretend to be King. The surprising thing to me is that only 49 percent of voters say Trump's mass deportation campaign is too aggressive. If I were not American, I would say there is no fucking way the rest of the world can count on us. By the way, I am American. And there is no fucking way the rest of the world can count on us. Trump voters who do not identify as MAGA are getting turned off. So those could maybe be voters for a Democrat in 2026 or 2028. But not if the campaign slogan is "Abolish ICE." There's a saying attributed to MLK or John Lewis or someone like that: "If there were not a Bull Connor, we would have had to invent him." I don't know whether that quote is true or someone made it up. And some people think it sounds cruel. Why would you want a racist cop beating the heads of Black people, like John Lewis? But anyone who has studied Gandhi or MLK understands the politics and principles of non-violent protest. No one is asking to be killed. But the worst of these ICE guys, who are not professionals, will kill you. They have just proven it in Minnesota, twice. And America does not like these Nazi-like fucks. Then again, among the MAGA cult, you simply can't be too Nazi-like for some. 12 % of Trump supporters who identify as MAGA say ICE is being too aggressive. But 21 % say they are not being aggressive enough. I am happy for out barking dog, at least. He gets to bark. He gets to bite. He gets to kill, even. He gets blood. He gets to feel like he is good and loyal and true. And part of something special. What could possibly be wrong with that?

I'll say one contrarian thing. "Defund the police" hurt Democrats in 2020. Jim Clyburn has said that the South Carolina Senate race was tied for a while in 2020, when his young protege Jamie Harrison was on the ballot. His analysis is that all the "defund the police" stuff is what ensured The Divine Miss Graham won again. That's a stretch. That said, if Democrats could have figured out how to break through to moderate voters who are right of center on some cultural issues, we could have won Iowa and North Carolina. Obama did. Obama was also Deporter In Chief. So Democrats have a history of being able to elect liberals who can play to the center. Biden was one, before age and inflation led him to defeat. So the danger now is that Democrats will fuck it up again, and go back to "Abolish ICE." Sorry, but that is why Trump was elected again. People don't want that, either. I agree with Doug Sosnik, who I quoted above. Carville was the 1992 icon who famously said, "It's the economy, stupid." But Sosnik had just as much to do with that message and Clinton's successes. Democrats need to let Team Trump Crazy do the Crazy Thing, which they do better than ever. We need to moderate to win. Especially on immigration.

But he is at the core of the partisan "lawfare" debate. So I assume a lot of MAGA people view him as the Wicked Witch of the West. Their whole idea now is that the violation of laws and norms and the destruction of alliances and institutions is just fine. As long as you lead our team. Smith is someone I suspect many of them would like to burn at the stake. I view the failure to prosecute Trump for Jan. 6th as a massive fuck up on the part of Biden. And Merrick Garland specifically. They had four years. I'm not a lawyer. And I am sure there were all kinds of political and legal nuances involved. But I still think they fucked up. Had a jury found Trump guilty, it may have changed the outcome. Or maybe not. One of the disturbing things about 2024 is that the party that usually likes to throw Black criminals in jail suddenly decided that being a felon was a mark of honor for Trump. One of the smartest guys in the room is Doug Sosnik, one of Bill Clinton's top political advisors back in the day. He said in a recent interview that "exhaustion" will be a theme in 2028. When voting for POTUS people often tend to go for the opposite of what they had. We of course did that already in 2020, when Boring Biden was viewed as a solution to Trump Crazy. But for inflation, I don't think almost half of voters would have wanted Crazy back. Arguably Democrats have an advantage in 2028 simply because they are not the party of Trump Crazy. JD Vance won't be able to get away from Trump Crazy any more than Harris could get away for Old Joe. Sosnik thinks - to state the obvious - Democrats need to focus on economics 100 % and play to the populist tide. Clinton was the last Democratic POTUS who could win in states like Arkansas. What Sosnik also said is that one way Democrats can help our 2028 nominee is by toning down the "toxic" parts of the Democratic brand that make Democrats unelectable in states like Missouri and Montana. I agree. Probably the best way Democrats can do that is by emphasizing affordability and things like "tax the rich" and deemphasize the stuff that drives culturally conservative voters crazy. Democrats seem to be getting and reading that memo. One can hope. Several Republican analysts have been saying lately that the part of the Trump 2024 coalition that is most at risk is the younger Zoomer voters who tilted toward him, mostly because of economic concerns. High inflation, high rent, high mortgage rates. To state it bluntly, young Latino men could give a shit about law and order. If anything, they saw Trump as a force for law and order in 2024. Close the damn border. They care about prices. They applaud when Ruben Gallego says every Latino man wants a big ass truck and cheap gas to fill it with. Democrats should focus on that. Not law and order. Democrats have the vote of the people like you and me and my beloved Sister In Cock, who are appalled and exhausted. If I had to bet, Gavin Newsom will be the 2024 nominee. A successful (right now) Governor of a huge blue state running is not a bad idea. And he owns the Resist Trump lane, which he clearly sees as the ticket to ride. I doubt the party will go for AOC in 2028, any more than Sanders was able to close the deal in 2016 or 2020. So the interesting question is people like Andy Beshear or maybe Josh Shapiro. In theory, at least, 8 years of Andy Beshear would help to close the red state/blue state divide. But, in theory, Barack Obama and Joe Biden were supposed to do that, too. Didn't work. I tend to agree with the Big Thinkers who see this polarization and populism as one part of a much bigger trend or cycle that plays out through history. They'd argue that we're hurtling toward some kind of crisis - of institutions, of monetary systems, inflation, federal debt - and these are just all symptoms. So, sadly, I agree with my Sister In Cock that these things are pipe dreams right now. It will probably get worse before it gets better. First thing is we have three more years of a piece of shit President who destabilizes everything to go. And he is screaming and shouting that he is above the law. Ugh! Then again, when you think about it, why would anyone feel exhausted, anyway?

This is what is both interesting and painful to me. Painful in the sense that I love and deeply respect the nephew I mentioned. And very smart people can deeply disagree about strategy. But he emailed me last night on a business trip just about fun stuff. And now I have the idea in my mind: Really? He's okay with this shit? We have nukes so we don't need allies? Sorry. But it doesn't make me respect him more. I can tell you this. For at least many MAGA folk, or maybe I should say MAGA adjacent conservatives, it is NOT racism or homophobia. Recently I was in this nephew's house in a red state with about a dozen family members, all of whom are avid Trump supporters. They know I am Gay and welcomed it. Several Black neighbors were coming in and out of the house. My nephew's Black nephew, his sister's son, was staying over. My funny joke was, "I'm Gay, I'm a liberal, and I'm a Democrat. And I'm even from California. I am truly fucked!" Everybody laughed. They are kind, loving people with strong families. Every poll I see shows Gen X as the heart of the Trump/MAGA coalition. The political theory I referred to is that Gen X (born 1965 to 1980) grew up under sunny and prosperous Reagan conservatism. So that is what they think works. My Dad was a proud Reagan conservative. He would be the first to say this is not Ronald Reagan's Republican Party. Reagan did immigration reform. Reagan loved NATO and made it stronger. Reagan famously allied with the UK, Germany, and other nations against the Soviet Union. He would not have been Vlad's pal and crony. Gen X has never had a President in their age cohort. Clinton, W, Obama, and Trump are all Boomers. Biden was Silent Generation. I decided a while ago that Trump is the Gen X President. Even if he is a Boomer. You can make a good case that W was a Gen X President. He won two pretty close races. At the time, young Gen X'ers were on his side. The real question now is where do the Zoomers go. The "demography is destiny" crowd would have said that by 2024 the 2020 Biden win, by 7 million votes, would maybe turn into almost a landslide, with more Zoomers on his side. They in fact went the other way. Inflation, home prices, rent, immigration, "toxic masculinity." Those are the issues I think we lost tons of Male Zoomers over. But Trump has now lost them, too. They trust no political party. And they will decide who the next President is. Maybe Trump will say, "Sorry, Zoomers. You voted for me. But now I am your King. You never get to vote again." If Trump wants Zoomers to hate him, that's a great way to do it. On that note, even many conservatives agree. This whole thing about taking over Iraq, or Afghanistan, or VietNam, or Libya, or [name many other countries on the planet] just never ends well. So what the fuck do the so-called "America First" people think they are doing? They will just inspire more people to eventually hate us. Including Venezuela, if all we do is cozy up to a different dictator to extract oil.
