  1. Capsaicins aren't water soluble, so water will only spread the pain to additional receptors. They are, however, alcohol soluble so maybe a double shot of vodka might do some good... one way or another.
  2. PS I forgot to say rotate the pan about 1/2 way thru and flip the veggies to ensure even browning. Sorry about that. PPS Use aluminium foil on pan to save a lot of scrubbing afterwards.
  3. Actually oven roasted root vegetables make a pretty good side dish. Easy to fix, cheap and tasty too. Oil up a pan, chunk up & lightly oil veggies , salt and pepper to taste, pop into medium hot oven and roast until knife soft. Sprinkle with herb of choice. Obviously, quicker cooking stuff should bet cut into larger chunks. Maybe with tougher things like rutabaga and celery root you might try giving it a 3 minute head start in the microwave.
  4. I'm told that in most parts of the world, rutabaga is considered animal fodder. Still, those New Englanders are a hard scrabble lot, so... Lots of Irish up there too and you know what they're like.
  5. Eat the turnips, not just the leaves. That will fill you up.
  6. Hmm... likely you and Ms Rivers share a taste for cute brown-eyed boys with a touch of brass.
  7. On the other hand, if you really want to conserve near 'bout any commodity, you don't sell it cheap. Put a dear price on something and folks will find a way to minimize its use. When people had to hand pump the water (or,worse yet, haul it from the creek), they didn't bathe more than once a week.
  8. How about Lisa Lampanelli Or maybe Roseanne Barr?
  9. Does this mean Fashion Police will be cancelled? Or will they stage a fash-off among the side kicks to pick a new queen? (I'm assuming Melissa inherits the red carpet shows.)

PM Tampa Yankee, Lucky. Maybe he'd be willing to issue an advisory ruling, just for old times sake.
  11. Truth is, Lucky, I actually agree with you, at least as far as converting soda pop into a vehicle for cannabis. That just strikes me as wrong, wrong wrong. But then I'm an old fart, so what do I know? Maybe Mountain Dew laced with cannablnoids is just the thing Jr. High crowd.
  12. Spot on, Lucky! I've heard tell that some folks go so far as to cook the food they eat just to achieve enhanced sensory experiences. Not to mention those hippy-dippy types who adulterate their natural eats with stuff like pepper, cinnamon and allspice. Where will it all end?
  13. Actually carrot based slaw is quite tasty.
  14. Of course lawful demonstrations require a permit from the government, lol. ==== Speaking of permits, building permits are legally required both to add additional square footage and for new construction. In East Jerusalem (Arab Quarter) exactly zero residential building permits have been issued to Arab landowners in the last half century. Somehow Israeli developers can obtain permits there but Arab home owners get their houses bull-dozed if they unlawfully enclose the patio. I guess those damned backward Arabs can't be expected to understand the finer points of democracy and a government of laws not men. Break out the hoses, boys. Looks like they're back for another civics lesson.
  15. Ain't nothing like a little dark humor to lighten things up.
  16. Jeez, AS, that's kinda dark.

You watched such trash, Hito? Tsk, tsk...I'm disappointed in you. But to answer your question, the Brit version featured full on willy waggling and butt burglary (or so I'm told). Besides, judging from the stills, the Brits were cuter at least as measured by my wank-o-meter.

Excellent post, planetime, especially the part about the bar boys remembering Oz and the taxi driver remembering where you stayed and your Vietnamese friend.

RA1, I don't know for sure but I suspect that, like Queer As Folk, the best we will see on American TV is a watered down remake. No bouncing boyish bottoms (blue or otherwise) or full monties for the likes of us. Surely one of the less technically challenged posters can figure out some way we can siphon the show from Channel 4's vaults past the US censors.
  20. Shout out to BiBottomBoy. Glad to see you're still dropping in from time to time.
  21. Great post, Alaskabear. Thanks for sharing your experience.
  22. "...his past consumption of certain spider venoms for their hallucinogenic qualities eventually led to amputation of his penis when the venom's carcinogenic properties upon being excreted in the urine caused cancer in said organ." TMI
  23. If you answered the title of a new gay themed series from Channel 4, the English broadcaster that aired Queer As Folk, you probably don't need to read this link. The show's creator stated he got the idea for the tiitle from a scientific study on erections. "It divided the hard-on into four categories, from soft to hard. One, tofu. Two, peeled banana. Three, banana. And four, cucumber. Right there and then, I knew I had my drama." Plot summary: Henry Best, a 46 year old in the middle of a relationship breakup, has the hots for a much younger man and winds up house sharing with a bunch of Gay twenty-somethings. Says Henry, "We all live together in a big gay house, being gay." Reported Dick-o-meter reading: "so risqué that it "wouldn't get past an American network"." and "In a drama looking at the details of people's sex lives,..., of course you are required to bust taboos or ask probing questions. There's no doubt people will find it challenging but it's asking intelligent questions in an original way," Writing, acting, directing etc.: "amazingly warm, incredibly funny and beautifully written" Sample cast shot:
  24. "Call her and tell her to bring me my candy!" "She can't bring it. She ate it." "That BITCH!"
