In search of 6 pacs…. Kinda
It's fluid in as far as the money flows from your wallet and even then there are limits. Personally, I wouldn't make assumptions about the sexual norms of Thai society - as broad and as varied as it may be - based on what one sees or experiences in the commercial sex industry.

Pattaya or Bangkok
Currently the visa exemption is 60 days (free upon entry) and can be extended by another 30 days at the immigration office of the city you're staying in for 1,900 Baht.

You're from Colorado? It must be getting cold where you are and will be even colder when you return from Thailand.🥶

I salute YOU.....
Oh dear. Have you got someone to drive you home? Please don't drink and drive.

Visiting Bangkok March 12th-17th
I hope they were practising safer sex. HIV and other STIs have been on the rise in Thailand.

Patpong comings and goings
A friend who went to their preview show/soft opening says it's a cross between a go go bar and a dance club with patrons mingling around the show with glasses in hand. Quite a few female patrons too. Not a place for the camera shy as both patrons and management were freely taking pictures and videos.

Do they also speak Thai? Feels kinda weird going to a venue in Thailand where Thai isn't spoken and all you meet are foreigners.

Why don't you give them a call and find out? ☎️😏

Dont move to Pattaya
"Sex tourist paradise." Is that what is called an oxymoron? 😅 Is it true that Pattaya wishes to attract well-off Asians? Or would she like to see quality tourists in general, both local and foreign? As a corollary, has she been successful? 1995 to 2025 is 30 years, a very long, cruisy time for anyone who wishes to adapt to the changes. What popular tourist city hasn't changed in that period of time? Is the UK the same as it was thirty years ago, besides the dysfunctional royal family? Even the university I went to is no longer among the top two, if recent rankings are to be believed. 😪 Whenever I see posts lamenting the loss of an era or the good ol' days, which crop up often enough, my curiosity is not so much focussed on the disappearance of a period of time or space (which admittedly makes for interesting reading at times) but veers towards the writer's own self-development amidst the changes.

Libido
Look up andropause. Have you got any metabolic syndrome issues for eg diabetes or hypertension? As you know chronic obesity can lead to all sorts of health issues, both physical and mental. Long term use of certain medications may also lead to a decline in libido for eg finasteride. Same same with alcohol. You're aware that your symptoms could be psychological - have you spoken to a mental health professional about it? Depression, low self esteem and trauma could be contributing factors. Anyway, best to see a GP first, who may then refer you to a urologist or other specialist. The correct protocol is to identify and manage any underlying physiological issues before attending to emotional ones. Good luck!

"Bangkok Boys"
Wasn't there a big go go bar called Boys Bangkok in Soi Twilight? Bangkok Boy is also the title of a novel by Chai Pinit.

What can I do tonight I'm bored
Proximity to the beach? It's diversity - all manner of bars and potential clients in one compact location? Pattaya is already known as a hoe town-johns' paradise with an "all are welcome" vibe so less judgment? The beach resort setting is more conducive for paid holiday romances? Conversely, unless they remain in their enclave (if there's an African enclave), they might stick out more in Bangkok? Here in KL, they congregate in certain areas and I've seen the guys with corpulent, older white women and occasionally homely (in the American sense), local women.

Why does he "hate" it when you try to speak Thai?

More protein and fructose for supper and breakfast? 😏

Hide and seek - Aug 2025 trip to Thailand with niece
That's a sensible way of approaching travel with a relative but you would have missed a golden opportunity to share one of those hot Jupiter guys and do what I believe in Pattaya is called an Indian "off". 😏

Hardship stories
I think you've answered your own question; it's a hardship story, not a hardship case. A young, goodlooking, able-bodied Thai man, not new to the scene, can't make the minimum wage of 400 Baht a day? 😏 Myanmar and Lao nationals are making 400-500 Baht a day working in construction, factories, farms, restaurants or doing domestic work and they have to fork out visa and work permit fees biennially to work legally in Thailand.

BOYS TOWN IN PATTAYA, DEAD?
Yup, and I think some people may not take well to being asked by strangers on their participation on what is essentially prostitution and simply reply in a way to cut that line of conversation off. I'd personally find it an invasion of privacy. Also, they could be in relationships or simply don't want their friends to know what they've been up to in their private time.

Hide and seek - Aug 2025 trip to Thailand with niece
A fun read, vinapu. Out of curiosity, why the hide-and-seek? You never thought that your niece might want to sample some of the delights that you've been enjoying all these years? Or did you want to keep the, ahem, chicken and cashew nuts all to yourself? 😏

PATTAYA (Indians & Russians)
I'm shocked by some of the racial sentiments expressed in this thread. Here's a quick lesson on racial tolerance and understanding: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DMNuf30tg2h/?igsh=MXhmN2sxenhtODVqaQ==

Bangkok/Chiang Mai advice
Perhaps the moderators could split this thread into two: Bangkok/public transportation and Chiang Mai? I was going to write a short review of the Chiang Mai gay venues I visited last February but I find the back-and-forth on Bangkok transportation muddies the thread a little.

Tawan vs Atlas
I hope the accident wasn't drink related. There's been so much of that happening.

Bangkok/Chiang Mai advice
The weather should be nice and cool by early November. I just hope for the sake of the small business owners that there won't be a repeat of last year's catastrophic floods. Many of them lost everything and had to re-start from scratch if they had the means. Those without had to close permanently.

Bangkok/Chiang Mai advice
It's a good hotel. Located on the quieter, southern part of Changklan Road, which is the same road where the night bazaar is located about 1 km north. The furniture is a bit old-fashioned but the rooms are quite spacious. Huge, buffet-style breakfast. It's a Crown property, similar to the more upmarket Royal Princess further north on the same drag, so service should be alright. When are you going? That area, which runs parallel to the Ping River, is prone to flooding. The floods in early October last year were terrible causing a tremendous amount of damage. It took some businesses at least two months to re-open and for the stench of sewage to go away. Personally, I wouldn't gush over the night bazaar; it's just another sprawling night market with perhaps more offerings of northern handicraft (although I've found the seasonal markets in the suburbs and Chiang Rai better in this regard).

A Cautionary Tale: Love Without a Plan
Perhaps not having a plan was the plan. Oh, the farang could well have loved his Thai partner but he might have been resentful too. Perhaps the sex was great, perhaps he had become too dependent on his Thai partner and was too deep into the relationship to extract himself out of it - a very common occurrence in Thailand. First the boyfriend - that was fun. Then came his wife. Then child number one, number two, number three...none of which were part of the original plan. Presumably there were other women too as the Thai partner was straight, all supported and paid for by the farang. I don't know how wealthy this farang was but supporting a young family of four or five would be a huge financial burden on most retirees. All the love and warm feelings shared by the farang and his Thai partner described in the original post may have well been true but one could enjoy and resent something at the same time. The farang may have liked being part of a Thai family but simultaneously felt trapped by the responsibility and expense in his old age and that there was no way out of it while he was alive. Bear in mind the farang is always a guest and the Thai is playing on his own turf. Maybe the farang felt that he had done enough and decided to do something else with his money upon his death. Another thing: people lie and sometimes the entire village lies with them. And unless one lived with the farang and his Thai partner over the course of twenty years, one is unlikely to know their entire story or the truth.
