  1. @reader Fox News is simply conforming to an official US policy that has been in place for decades. That policy has been to not recognise the new name of Myanmar that was imposed by the military junta in 1989. There are several reasons why: Dispute Over Legitimacy – The country’s name was changed from Burma to Myanmar in 1989 by the military junta that took power in 1988. Many governments, including the U.S., did not recognize the military government as legitimate and refused to acknowledge the name change. Support for Democracy Movement – The U.S. maintained the name “Burma” in solidarity with the pro-democracy movement, including Aung San Suu Kyi and her party, the National League for Democracy (NLD), which initially continued using “Burma” as well. Lingering Policy and Tradition – Even after Myanmar moved towards partial democratic reforms in the 2010s, the U.S. government continued using “Burma” in official contexts, though some officials and institutions have used “Myanmar” interchangeably. The US also refers to the former capitol Yangon as Rangoon, and the US embassy to Burma is located in Rangoon. So you can’t really blame this on Fox News or any change in policy from the new administration.
  2. It is not exactly the same although negative sentiment is directed towards them as well. Consider this: Laotians speak a language and have a culture that is very close to Thai, it is easier for them to go under the radar and assimilate and they are considered close cousins of the Thais, whereas Myanmar is frequently featured in popular historical thai TV series as villains. Their language is from a different language family. The memory of the sacking of Ayutthaya in the 18th century by the Burmese remains alive among the Thais. This last point can be difficult for some westerners to comprehend as history is often dismissed and ignored, but Eastern Europeans can relate to these sentiments. Some of these sentiments are reciprocated on the Myanmar side. Some Burmese newspapers will dismissively refer to modern Thailand as Siam, alluding to the defeats that kingdom faced in the 18th century. Burmese immigration to Thailand has also been very significant compared to the other nationalities since the 1990s when Thai economy really took off. This is related to the long civil war of that country. All in all, Myanmar and Thai history is strongly tied together in a love hate relationship, which set them apart from the other nationalities. Thus when tensions rise over immigration it is often directed towards the Burmese, although it will affect other ASEAN nationalities too. When the police decide to raid and you don’t have a work permit you will get deported regardless of nationality, but arguably the consequences for young Burmese men are higher.
  3. Fertility is declining on so many continents with the exception of Africa. The drivers of this varies by locale. In Asia one significant driver is the high cost of child care and good education coupled with the very high competition and stress in bringing up children in the educational arms race. Couples often prefer having pets instead of children. This driver alone outweighs any LGBT influence on the numbers.
  4. Thailand is a middle income country whereas Myanmar is low income. That their education is ranked so close together does not reflect well on Thailand.
  5. Shops like FaFa Spa will also sometimes provide rainbow flags on the profile to indicate sexual orientation. You can assume that gay tops will be willing to give and receive orals as well as kissing, while straight tops often will not as a rule of thumb. Sometimes indicating you’re a top is for keeping up appearances of masculinity as well as own comfort level, as being a top is gay easy mode. It is not unheard of for tops to be willing to bottom in the privacy of the room and with the right client.
  6. I didn’t know religions had to be theistic.
  7. Can you please unpack a bit what you mean here because it is not immediately clear to me how your previous paragraphs supports your conclusion.
  8. The quake originated in Myanmar close to Mandalay. The destruction in Mandalay is catastrophic. We get much less news from there due to the restrictions on the internet imposed by the junta.
  9. Even Moonlight had a lot of customers last two weekends. One of them was their anniversary weekend, but still…
  10. hmm seems you can now book masseurs directly with the shop. Of the guys they have I would recommend Mr. Tan (hunky, vers but not pictured below.) He has got experience from Ssense, the Adam and Men Club in Sukhumvit.
  11. I believe they operate on a rotational system like most of the parlours in the area, however I would like to be proven wrong here. It is possible to book a guy prior to session at Relax Thai massage on the same street. They will send you pics on Line.
  12. My immediate reaction was: does the area really need another 9-teen massage? The prime massage is the only one that stands out in that it is popular and have a clear concept (you go there for massage not HE). The others blend into each other as their value proposition is the same, and quite frankly you can find better offers elsewhere.
  13. This will most likely be of interest to people that live in Bangkok. If anyone chooses to go they should bring a Thai friend to help with translation during the event.
  14. Yes he is back
  15. At present it may not be that useful, since cash is still king. However, if Thailand is going down the same road as China where in practice you have to pay with digital wallets all the time then TagThai can see further use. It would be easier to pre-pay for Crete the party and MIMA party for example. Anonymity would still be an issue, at least for some people.
  16. Thanks for the reports and great meeting you.

    Songkran

It will be appreciated and especially if you refer to the celebrations with their local name.
  18. Sorry to say that Mark has moved on from Mandel Spa, however the spa itself is doing well and has also expanded to another location in Bangkok. They now have location in Lat Phrao 91 and Sukhonthasawat. They are expanding their offerings and services and they have now recruited a model as masseur too: C_Hayut. We are possibly seeing the contours of how the massage places, saunas and OnlyFans are forming a mutually reinforcing ecosystem.
  19. I’m pursuing 1 and 4. I have a regular that I see from one of the bars and I often go to a few select massage parlours. I enjoy the simulacrum, and our LTs always go well beyond lunch time. The bars in Bangkok are quite frankly not that interesting. I enjoy more the internal gossip about the bars rather than the shows themselves 🤣. The innovation happens in many of the massage places, some of which are obviously doing well for themselves and they do experiment with service models. I prefer the consistent service I get at a few select of these places. Two places that are innovative in their own ways are Mandel Spa and Phoenix Spa. Phoenix Spa offers selected and masseurs that are all versatile, they don’t stick with the somewhat inconsistent freelance model that is so usual in the Saphan Khwai shops. Mandel spa has recently expanded to another location and they now offer models that occasionally appears in the saunas. They have an expansive menu of services too that appeal to a youngish and fit crowd.
  20. This guy has also moved on. He gave excellent service within the constraints set by the shop.
  21. Nope, he along with Knott moved on and I haven’t seen them in any other parlour. Unlike Tan who worked there for a while last year and who went to the Men’s club in Sukhumvit. There have been a lot of newcomers to Ssense this year, but none are as muscular as Singha. They have stopped pushing the google reviews by the way and you have to submit a review via Line instead.

  23. Bhutan is a gem, but at present there are few opportunities for its young people so they tend to emigrate, specially to Australia. Another old buddhist Himalayan kingdom is Lo in upper Mustang, now part of Nepal, with a similar Tibetan culture. It is an equally fascinating place. Too bad you missed seeing the black necked cranes. That valley is fascinating and you can bike around.
  24. Prices and pay is one of the topics that consistently raises the temperature here. The topic has all the classic ingredients of (feigned) shock, scolding, status anxiety, virtue signalling and jadedness. I just say: leben und lassen leben, live and let live.
  25. Just go to sauna mania
