I've found with any hotel employee the quickest way to "make friends" is a tip, especially one that seems for "nothing". At least now having been to Old City in off season I know it better and compare rates there. It really is the center of activity. I'll highly recommend Giuseppe Pizza just behind the big Starbucks on Old Town Square. $10 artisan pizza as good as anywhere. The ham/mushroom is my favorite. The 2nd and 3rd floor lounges of that Starbucks are just feet in front of the Astro Clock with plenty of lounge chairs and electrical outlets.
