Let’s say I met a very attractive 19 year old soldier online that looks incredible with both his uniform on and his uniform off.  Let’s also say (hypothetically of course) that this soldier would like to meet me near his base since it is difficult for him to travel which is close to the intersection of BR 493 and and BR 040.

I have made two trips to Brazil and can speak very basic Portuguese.  He is really cute and I very much want to meet him but I am wondering if I’m getting in over my head here.  Thoughts?  Has anybody out there that is not fluent in Portuguese made an expedition like this outside Rio’s tourist zone?

Yes, my army boy is the top in the video.  He says he is versatile in real life though which I intend to verify when we meet.

At the risk of derailing my own thread here, I’ve been to Thailand about 10 times in the past 7 or 8 years and, yes, I have met some amazing guys a few of which I have stayed in touch with and seen multiple times.  None of my trips to Thailand included starting conversations with super hot guys - that should want nothing to do with me - via social media and then actually meeting them for an afternoon or night in exchange for about the going rate at a sauna.  What is it about Brazil that makes, “Well you are about 15 years older than me and I’m not for hire (or at least not clearly for hire) but since you land somewhere on the spectrum between not repulsive and slightly fuckable, yes, in exchange for R$200 (and probably dinner) I’ll have incredible passionate sex with you that will leave us both exhausted.”?  That’s not a thing in Thailand or at least it’s not a thing that I ever experienced in Thailand yet it’s happened multiple times to me in the short time I’ve been traveling to Brazil now.

Yes, I already am able communicate better in Portuguese then I ever could in Thai but I really don’t think that is it.  It seems to me at least like there is something in the Brazilian culture that makes what I described acceptable that just doesn’t exist elsewhere.  Am I off base here (or maybe just incredibly luck when in Brazil) or is this something that others have experienced too?

My love for Brazil is out of question, and have no evidence to dispute their Carpe Diem pole position. However, in my trips to Buenos Aires I have been meeting a lot of Colombians and Venezuelans, I am really curious to try those cultures. If Omicron does not ruin it again, I am planning a week in Medellin in April. I am broke right now.

What I have noticed in Argentina (rather in the countryside, specifically the NE) and in Brazil, and Colombia seems to be similar, is a more friendly attitude towards older men interacting with younger guys. I do not know whether or not that can make a difference in your comparison against SE Asia. I have never been there, and now that @TotallyOzis leaving, I see no reasons to visit.

Grindr has been amazing for me in Rio (and a dud in SP oddly enough) but since it also works well for me in Bangkok too, that isn’t really what I was try to get at.  I was more thinking of swimsuit models from IG or army boys that I happen to randomly cross paths with on Twitter.

How do I start the conversation?  Usually it’s nothing more profound than, “você é lindo.” which just is really all the more reason that I am puzzled by this phenomenon.

well, he is hot and i would meet him. but defenitely in tourist zone. tell him to use the metro or drop it.

I think this is no more dangerous than meeting anyone at their place. Safer perhaps since you're going to a motel. There are reasons people don't meet guys outside the sauna. I don't think that meeting a guy privately in the tourist zone is somehow inherently safer.
