It's the point of Black out on Monday at Python in SP.... quickies with the guys for less money anywhere in the place.

Let me guess … you must have discount-prompted robust tumescence just even writing this.

Not that I lack appreciation, as what some folks are keen about as representative of a small minority can helpfully steer others, the majority, in different directions.

Although the apparent obscured visibility Monday factor for others could help matters on the pythetic front. Me, I prefer them looking good and feeling good.

By all means see for yourself the novelty and checking it out is cheap but, guys, you’re not going to want to spend your hard-earned cash on interactive play on Brig Luís Antônio upon the extensive effort of travelling all that distance.

Are 202 and 117 in safe areas? Which one is in a safer area? 117 looks further from Ipanema to me

UnSAFE, where SAFE = satisfactory answer for everyone.

Safe combines intuition and narrative. Unfortunately one must see for oneself.

Safe if nothing untoward happened.

Fallacy of probability logic if one’s opinion bias is based on one’s personal history. Any bad event follows a period of being spared and subverts the sense of safety that previously existed; a bad event does not predict a subsequent one, but that’s not how the average brain works.

One key variable is the radius size surrounding either venue. This reality also defies a single correct answer.

My ‘money’ is on 117 being preferable in terms of safety level. But that’s a dumb bias because there is no smart money, only wise precautions. YMMV. My take is at the same level of stupidity as contrarian ones.

If you think Ipanema is the epicentre of maximum safety in the context of a gradient of risk I am sure there are punters here eager to disabuse you of such a naïve notion. Risk differential is based on geographic pockets, not an escalatory distance from some overidealized zone.

I would be far more willing to stand or sit for an hour at midnight on the corner of Glória and Candido Mendes than on an Ipanema thoroughway corner.

Let us know. I would add be safe but it’s not up to me. I can only hope your visit is bulletproof and that you are only in danger of having a good time.

I think that @Mavica is among a very small handful here that stay or have stayed in the Glória/Catete zone recently, if not longer ago, and lives to tell the tale, no thanks to Our Lady of the Glória Hill. I think he hoofed it mainly. You can find him by searching for the most prolifically hair-triggered downvoter, as is anyone’s prerogative. In fact, certain aspects of his unique trip account itself might impel one to downvote on the area as a viable lodgings option. I take a more neutral view and have put visiting gringo friends up in the area without having been a last will and testament beneficiary.

Alternatively, if you have a few days to spare, and can tolerate high effort output with low answer yield, try searching the safety topic here using key words.

Both saunas are in relatively safe areas, despite what some fear mongers would say. 117, in my opinion, is in a safer area than 202. Glória's zone around 117 is a bohemian and always populated zone. 202 surrounding may become deserted at night and is close to a favela, just around the corner.

However, I have never suffered or witnessed any security threat.

That said, always remember to be aware of your surroundings and if you do not feel confident use Uber. Criminals smell fear and avoid confidence.

My two cts. Those places, safe or not? Uber to the door of 202 Uber to the door of 117. then Uber from 202 while still inside to my hotel or destination. The same goes for 117. In both cases, they literally stop by the door. Is it safe? I don’t know because I never lingered around to find out.

There’s nothing around there for me. For some more seasoned people, it may be possible to walk to 202, but only if you’ve been there a few times and are familiar with the area. Besides 202, is literally  six blocks from the Copacabana beach, and I still usse Uber  But as one of the fellow posters here said, there’s nothing in the streets after dark. I just Uber everywhere, and my worries were solved. Especially after a couple of programas at those places when I’m all sore and vulnerable 😛

If you are curious about the local culture, you have a very popular and nice Boteco close to 117,  in the corner of Rua Cândido Mendes and Rua da Glória. They have outdoors sitting, prices are affordable, and it is a very popular place with an extremely friendly crowd, perfect for mingling and learning about the local costumes.

Similarly, close to 202, just a few meters after Suqieira Campos Metro Station, right on a corner on R Siqueira Campos, you have another boteco called "Tipicamente". In my opinion, the food is not as good as the one I previously mentioned, but it is a regular spot for clients and escorts to grab a bite after the sauna. More than once I stoped there for diner sometimes alone and sometimes with friends, and one of the boys I have been chasing unsuccessfully would pass by and came in after I blinked and waved them. Right now, I can remember two hotties who ended up in my airbnb after a milanesa com batatas fritas.

What if you lose your phone or its charge? The only Uber will be uber anxiety. Getting everywhere that way without incident simply reinforces the notion that the respective areas are menacing. In a decade I have only ever walked to and from these venues, including Meio Mundo, from lodgings or Metro station and it’s wise to experientially grasp options if you ever have the misfortune of being stranded.

I rarely attend 202 because I only pay for attractive acompanhantes, so rarely eat in the area. There are several dining or snack options right by 117. I have eaten at Vila Rica only two or three times on my own as I don’t care for it and prefer other places or street food outlets in the vicinity but it’s where the working guys prefer to be treated. The ratio of 117 trade to 202 trade in which I am prepared to hire is about 20:1 but sadly the 117 suites leave much to be desired considering their outrageous rental fees, and the love hotel directly across knows by now the room number I’ll request.

Thanks! Yes, but after spending three years in Brazil nonstop, I fell more comfortable doing that, especially before 2 PM, or as my friends like to call it, before showering to get to the GP. I’m not trying to overstate it, but NYC is one of the worst cities for sex, whether you’re using an escort or not. So, for my trip to Brazil, it feels like I’ve been starving for months, and they’re serving me a buffet of everything.

Also, i dont know you guys, but I love to hold a hot guy while I am drinking or chatting, like one also can do in Montreal.

NYC—especially for those of us over 50, I imagine the younger guy might have a blast here. But for us close to 60, there aren’t many options, and there arent one good sauna in NYC I once tried the Fair Theater, in Queens, but it wasn’t a great experience. i wish they were some desperate students there looking to pay their tuition so I could help them,  :p but even that didn’t work. there is none, I asked around if there were any good guy that was looking for older generous gentleman ,they all laughed at me. So, I stopped trying

Over six years ago, I used to attend the Adonis parties. They were fantastic, but my last visit over a year ago was terrible. Back then the guys used to be top-notch., and I even met there filou_fitt., the OF guy,  and I had a couple of privates with him, it is surreal that now he does that much porn, He was super sweet, and he even kissed, not like a GP, but enough to make it pleasant. Back in the days of the Adonis parties, people used to wait at the entrance of the lap room to catch the good ones before someone else took it from them. It was a great time.
Now that i think about it, maybe it wasnt OF at that time? it was mixed group of dancers walking around but there also some A+ or at least for me, i know some of those pretty IG type is not appealing to everyone.

Now, those parties are terrible. The same goes for the Monster bar basement. None of the guys there are attractive or have the sex appeal of even the least attractive Brazilian. Having tasted  you cant go back lol

end of rant 😜

i wont leave my home thinking that way, :( I use Uber because it’s so cheap and convenient. Even if I had to trek through the heart of Manhattan, I’d still grab an Uber. I’m getting a bit older and don’t have much time to explore other cities. .Besides,  an I always carry my TIM Brazil phone, and my owncell phone that i can use inside. If anyone wants to get one, TIM phone,  I can walk you through the process, only TIM accepts passports

I’m not looking to cause any trouble. For those unfamiliar with suit prices, they generally range from around US $14. They’re not the top-notch, But once I’m in the arms of a hot GP, I could just roll on the floor without a mattress—I wouldn’t even care. Lol

Also, i dont want to stir anything but for those that doesnt kno the prices for a suit, is around $14 there are not the best, But once i am in the arms of a hot GP that I could just roll around on the floor without a mattress, and I wouldn’t even care. Lol

I think it beggars relief when by standard love hotel duration the cost is 5 times that of Alameda. LOL. One need only attend a few steps away to realize what a rip-off. Here’s an idea: take the money you are robbed of and buy more sex with more guys that are happy to accommodate and enjoy the amenities upgrade. Roll on the floor with a ménage if you like, or a bed with pillows, sheets that stay on, and tailored lighting. For similar cost output. After the initial sticker reverse shock of low hire fees that seems compensatory, one eventually catches on to the exorbitant venue costs and who is benefiting. Takeaway is all the rage anyway.

Now that i bit chatty and it is rainy,

I ended up going to Bangu, but only to the sex Cabines that day. I felt very oral and i wanted to go earlier to explore the area. I was surprised by the neighborhood; it was very vibrant, with many clothing stores and a working-class population. It was nothing like I imagined or at least the day I went there. Its fkng far, that i can tell you, so i went there and the glory holes are inside of sex shop, but more like a boutique, very nice and i looked like it was recently renovated, you pay at the entrace, and walk upstairs, and you will find this: https://www.instagram.com/p/DSkzTJyDtMI/

That video shows the truth about that place—it’s exactly like that: very clean and neat. I went too early, so there was only one guy in his 40s, very handsome and jovial. He didn’t even wait for me to get set up at one of the glory holes. I grabbed a little stool and sat next to his erection, he left very happy. so the 3 ones after him, I don’t know if it was because I was the new guy in town, but I was very popular. At the same time, I waited a long time in between encounters. It wasn’t like everyone came at once; it happened in intervals, one at a time, spaced out. All of them were attractive, with various ages—only one in his 20s, and the rest between 30 and 40. I will definitely repeat , but since it’s such a long trip, I’ll try to do both: the Cabines and Casa Bangu. is not much to said about that besides, it is very quiet and the location is far

I also, went for the first time to Kabalk sauna, located in a odd area, but as always, UBER in and out, itIt’s like a big old colonial house. I guess I went too early because it was only me and another gentleman there. It’s not like I was expecting a palace or anything, but as you move around the place, there are many narrow metal stairs connecting different areas. I’m not sure how convenient that would be for everyone. It wasn’t ideal for me, since I have a bit of an issue with stairs. After several hours and a few beers, only two more guys my age showed up, and one of them told me that the interactive arrive very late, so i was bored and horny so i left to a better pastures.

I also went to Taurus, amazing as always, but I will take a nap before going there. It is intense there, and I am not any more younger, so I got tired and stayed most of the time in the bar. The interactives came very, very late, but they were gorgeous. Or maybe I was too horney, but they were this big Brazilian huge everywhere, everywhere ass, pecs and erections. It was fun playing with them, even though I am a bit squeamish. I know, there is nothing worse than a squeamish whore :( . So I was with them as early as possible. They used condoms but not for oral, so I was able to enjoy them while fresh, sort of speak. I think Taurus have some showers in the way to the lockers? correct me if I am wrong, but those bathrooms definitely have bidets and a hose for the penis. I did a previous 1-on-1 if you want to know more, but I definitely recommend it. I also went and left in an Uber, so I can’t tell about the area. The only part is this time different was the sign for the entrance, this time was easier to catch. In my previous trip there, the entrance was a plain white wall with a small hall, not sign outside, and then you see the front door. So it can take a while to find the entrance between the houses,  Just keep in mind the address of the house, Lapa Street, 8.  you will find it. because it is the 8 i may have snatched a picture of the entrance. i will post it once i find it, if ever.

Hell yeah! That was not there when I visited back in August. I wonder whether the owner is also renovating the entire sauna. Thanks for the report!

I misread your post. Those cabins are not at Casa Grande.

Since everybody is now prolly wondering, STI screening, and possibly antibiotics for antimicrobial resistant bacterial infection, is accessible at a Rio prefeitura public SUS clinic near the Catete Metro and a few blocks west of the Republican Palace … Rua Silveira Martins, 161. Bloods and urine. Queues up to a few hours. Oddly, although standard panel dictated, oropharyngeal and anal anatomical site swab sampling is not offered. Counterintuitively, a full range of tests one would expect at a general physical with one’s PCP is thrown in to the sexual health screening package, essentially unnecessary and a waste of resources that would be better allocated with inclusion of swab procedures. I haven’t drilled and doubled down enough to ascertain options for rounding out the screening package. Cocksuckers left holding the bag … unite.

Hospital Glória D’Or nearby, private system, will insist on charging 1600 reais simply for a consultation of a few seconds to inquire about their STI screening playbook.

A local lab offers oral swab but required a requisition beyond the SUS format issued containing the restricted venipuncture format that can miss current infection. This meant returning to SUS to wait a few hours for a revised set of requisitions, if even it can be printed from their system, or going to a local physician for same. Fun.

I think there must be a better way that I have yet to discover and I have yet to be in on it. My sense was that Brazil was very much on top of comprehensive screening. I can get my needs met back home but I wouldn’t mind some capacity to have my desire for broad-based protectionism facilitated as appropriate when in Brazil.

I tend to stay off the beaten path of other (foreign) tourists - and my reason for visiting Rio is not just the sauna's.  I'm an explorer. Experience at a destination should result in being inquisitive and wanting to venture further from areas frequently recommended in guidebooks, travel forums, etc.

In my first several newbie visits to Rio I stayed in Copacabana (i.e., Atlantico, etc.).  Future trips have taken me to Catete and Gloria. I stayed in Gloria for two weeks at the end of September/beginning of October 2025 and enjoyed it.  The only Uber I took was at the end of my trip, to the airport.  Everything else was on foot or by Metro.  I walked a lot.

I've traveled outside the USA, extensively.  Age and experience should allow us to develop a gut feeling when things might not be right; risk warnings.  First visits to a destination can cause anxiety, particularly if we read the most sensational news stories and I understand that.

Regarding a comment in the discussion that streets are quiet/dead after dark:  not so in my experience.  That's when residents really come out and enjoy themselves in so many sections of the city.

A future visit might find me based in Leblon, however.  It's an area I explored on foot during my last visit to Rio and I really liked the vibe, the beach, the people ... but, yes, it's more expensive.  Probably a splurge trip for me.

You packed a lot in, impressively, over 9 days considering feeling unwell for part of it. If you missed it, literally steps from your lodgings, long staircase by Golden Park or winding travessa option, try to get up to the lovely church (c1734?) for the architecture, tiles, and view. Sunday morning a good bet to see inside prior to the nearby vast market.

Yes, on previous visits I made my way up to the church, on Sunday.

EDIT:  The apartment I rented in Gloria this last trip was at the base of the Hill, and around the corner from the famous steps, which were locked/closed during my stay.
