Had to wait until I got to Pattaya 

I need to order bolt grab etc as well as go on the apps 

Is it better to stop off on arrival in the airport to buy a new SIM card ,say that one called TRUE ?

I need phone internet and my current one is Australian pre paid 

Was at Swampy in March on my way back from The Lucky Country, whilst waiting in the baggage hall, did notice an AIS kiosk. Can't remember if there was a True one or not. If not, pretty sure there is one after customs.

last trip  ( last month )I was able to buy True card before I even reached an immigration.

It was important for me as I was supposed to meet  friend in the airport who landed shortly before me.

I got mine, AIS, in baggage  hall. There were several shops there. 

My US phone carrier provides me with a limited data package in many different countries, including Thailand. I just turn on phone and it automatically picks up a local carrier that I use until the following day when I renew my AIS service at Silom Complex.

It happened a few times to me that i got 1 day free data with limited speed for my AIS sim card when i switched it on on arrival. I always use the same simcard and recharge it.

Last year, when I ran out of free data from my usual provider (because I had spend 4 weeks outside the EU), I downloaded an E-sim that covered Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Worked well and was reasonably priced. Hope to find something similar for Cambodia, as it is one of the few countries my subscription doesn't cover

I got a 7 day sim at the airport, the ludicrous  new airport at Siem Reap, just outside, where you pick up hotel car etc. Very reasonably priced. 

I just use eSIMs now. Started with Airalo, but now mostly use Nomad. Prices are good and it works on arrival.  It does not come with a local phone number though.  I use WhatsApp or whatever for verbal communication.

I have a Thai niece and she recommended AIS.  I organized to have it topped up before I left Thailand recently, so that it won't have expired before I next return.

Wish I was savvy enough to be able to do that!

Just google eSIMs.  It is really easy.  There are articles and videos to show you how to activate them on your phone.  It is easier now than when I first started with them.

@Travelingguy Since I will be in Thailand, Laos and Cambodia next January/February I need a flexible solution, not just a local SIM o eSIM. Am I interpreting this correctly, that you were satisfied with Nomand? The prices seem to be ok and you can choose the countries/regions freely.

Yes eSIMs are far more useful than those TRUE or AIS SIMs sold at the airport. I mostly use Airalo (in 8 different countries thus far) with good results. Holafly is also good. No need to pay those outrageous roaming charges that most western cellular carriers charge.

Luckily Airalo's eSIMs for Thailand (from DTAC) also give you a local phone number which is handy for Bolt, food delivery and Lazada purchases. Most eSIMs in other countries only give you a data allowance but no voice allowance.

I used a regional Nomad eSIM last year in Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia, and Vietnam. I don’t think I had coverage in Laos. I was very happy.

but verify that they will work on your phone before buying! Many older phones don't support them.

There is a regional eSIM which also covers Laos
