Hua Hin seems to be trending as a place for foreigners to go , however I have no clue on the gay scene. Is there a scene? Massages?

I was there recently visiting friends. It's a nice place, especially favoured by expats. Our Swiss (non-gay, but gay friendly) community is very active there. The infrastructure is also quite good and you can get to BKK quickly by train (is the planned "high-speed train" already running?). But as far as the gay scene is concerned, it's pretty much a NO-GO. One single bar, that's it. Grindr was quite busy though. 

I'll be following this thread with interest as I was actually thinking about visiting Hua Hin on my next Thailand trip. I always aim to visit at least one new place each trip in addition to the usual Bangkok/Pattaya..

too bad  ferry from Pattaya is no longer running. It was 2 hours only

I was in Hua Hin about 1.5 years ago.   I had a boy from Bangkok with me, so I can't I don't know about the scene in Hua Hin.  

On the beach anything goes, with horses and three wheeled motocy vendor carts riding on the sand.    Here's a couple photos from January 2024. 

 

 

I was also there relatively recently. Frankly I found it boring. Even the beach where my hotel was located was tiny. If you go at the end of the year, you have to remember that Hua Hin is very exposed to the winter monsoon winds. On three of my five days it was even chilly lying by the pool! I had been decades ago and enjoyed it. Not this time, though.

A few years ago i took the train from bkk to Hua Hin with a gay friend and our two boyfriends. One thing I remember was our visit to a temple populated by monkeys who swarmed all over us. I thought the huge beach was superior to that at Jomtien and good for jogging which I was into at the time. However during our two night stay I saw no gay bars or any other guys with Asian boys.  It would now be a lengthy journey by road from Pattaya.

You are correct.  We drove further south to Nakhon Si Thammarat and Hat Yai on that trip.  Sitting at a beach restaurant just north of Nakhon Si Thammarat in the evening, it felt like we were in a typhoon.   The wind was very strong and non-stop.  There was no rain, just heavy wind.  

BTW, if you like Massaman curry, Nakhon Si Thammarat is known for being the best for that dish in Thailand, just like Hat Yai fried chicken is famous all over the country.  Burger King started selling their version of Hat Yai fried chicken country-wide in 2023.

When I've been there, Hua Hin typically had about 1.5 gay bars & no male massage options.    

New Guy bar & sometimes something else.

 

For example, Red Indian was about the size of a broom cupboard (now closed). 

During my last visit, there was one other gay bar, but they just happened to be closed for a few days.

 

 

 

 

Whilst Hua Hin might be pretty much devoid of gay nightlife you will still find guys on the apps.  Predominantly on Grindr,  Hornet and Romeo.   

Guys will often message offering massage. 

There is at least one gay massage on soi 96 (96/1?)

You can also find guys working at a few of the many places around town.

I spend a couple of months a year in Hua Hin, it’s my favourite long stay destination. The gay scene is tiny but the apps are active. Because it’s a large Thai town not dependent on foreign tourists, it’s much more authentic than places like Pattaya, Patong or Chaweng. It doesn’t get a lot of Russian or Chinese tourists. Local food options are endless, it has a great night market plus two more weekend evening food markets, a day market, a superb long beach for walking, malls for shopping and great hotels. It’s spread out over quite a long distance on the Phetkasem highway, so picking the right spot to stay is key.

I go to Hua Hin every year for a few days to visit a friend who stays there over winter. There is one or two gay bars and no gay massage that I know of. The bars were not busy every time we went, and usually I left alone. Online dating is slow as well. Sometimes I find someone, sometimes not. For me, both bars and online poor. 

I have visited a couple of times, (last time was just after the earthquake for a weeks break!) its about 3 hours south of Bangkok by taxi so further than Pattaya, nice beaches, countless entertaining monkeys in one area which makes Monkey Beach on Koh Larn seem insignificant and I would suggest nicer real Thai restaurants that are also better value than Pattaya.  The Gay bar scene is virtually non existent with I think one small bar near the centre which I never visited. I certainly wouldn't visit alone but went both times with a friend who works in Bangkok, the bars especially if you enjoy a few games of pool are fun, in the central area Soi  Bintabaht and adjacent Soi's is a maze of interesting and fun bars, as is the Soi 96 area a bit further away. For something different a visit to Phraya Nakon caves about an hour south of Hua-hin then a short boat ride followed by a hell of a steep hill climb is frankly mind blowing and something I will never forget! So in summary I would recommend Hua hin for a change but go with company already in place!

If you drive on your trip to Hua Hin, here's another spot accessible by rental car, or a Grab or Bolt car from Hua Hin.  

I visited Hua Hin in January 2024.  About an hour before reaching Hua Hin from Bangkok, it's worth stopping at the Khao Luang cave.  It also is a nice day trip from Hua Hin.  Here's a photo I took inside the cave.
