all bars are closed tonight Saturday

Hi all,

Just went by Silom and all the bars are closed.  Does anyone know what happened some kind of raid?

Seems like the straight bars are open.  I really wanted to go by Fresh boys.   oh well next time.

Alcohol is banned due to pre elections tomorrow.

oh i see interesting that the straight ones are open.  That does make sense since they probably make the most money from the alcohol sales

It's due to the upcoming general elections. Alcohol sales are prohibited from 6 PM 31 January 2026 to 6 PM 1 February 2026 for advance voting and again from 6 PM 7 February 2026 to 6 PM 8 February 2026 for Polling Day.

I always find it funny that on a alcohol ban day, some restaurants and almost all bars completely close. Can't we just sit in a bar and drink non alcoholic drinks? Can we only enjoy ourselfs when we can drink alcohol? 

That being said, for who really can't survive one evening without alcohol it is possible to find places where secretly they still serve it...

We had this ban on alcohol in my country, until some years ago and I think the idea was to prevent strong supporters getting  drunk and fight opponent supporters.

There have been outright brawls in the Lok Sabha and even in the National Diet and presumably they were sober! In the Lok Sabha, they started off by throwing shoes at each other before getting into a wrestling match just as they would in a Bangalore fish market. And now they're doing it with ladyboys in Pattaya! Ladyboys 1 Indians 0.

For everybody in Thailand who did not know yet, but I read next weekend will be the same and also alcohol ban on Saturday night because of elections.

Oh I drink most weekends,

I just didn't want those bars open as I won't be there at that time .
