If I understand correctly, the White Cat is located on the night market street. I think that's a bad location. Of course, it's a busy street, but with (straight?) tourists who come for the market and street food. The bar's potential target audience also walks down this street. But they're less likely to wander between the stalls and enter the bar than on the adjacent soi, which has several well-known gay bars. I think Atlas's location was much better in that regard. But I assume the rent is lower in the new location? Anyway, I hope the White Cat is open again when I'm in Bangkok in the coming weeks. I'm really curious! mauRICE and jamiebee 2 Quote

vinapu Posted February 26 Posted February 26 By the way, according to my spies ' Wild Cat " sign is gone. I may mean idea of bar there was dead before it really took off. On another hand , it may be in preparation to put new, proper sign "White Cat ", in few days we should be clear floridarob, jamiebee and emiel1981 2 1 Quote

I think it's been said before that the Atlas location rent was too high. You are right that the location on Patpong 1 is not intuitive, but for now, it is what it is. One might also say that when (eons ago) the original Tawan and original Jupiter began (Jupiter was where the current Telephone bar is, I believe), they were in really odd locations too. But over time, people got to know where they were, with a bit of help from Spartacus Guide. Even now, Thantawan and Moonlight put barkers at the mouths of their alleys to try to get a few new customers every night. I think White Cat will need more than a doorman at the bottom of their stairs. They need this guy to walk up and down Patpong 2 (where the gay folks stroll) handing out fliers with a little map of their location on the next soi. Flier can also serve as a discount coupon: "show this flier and get 100 baht off your first drink". jamiebee, vinapu, bkkmfj2648 and 2 others 5 Quote
jimmie50 Posted February 28 Posted February 28 ok, so I am having a difficult time locating this new bar. Is it actually on the same street as Patpong Night Market? I couldn't tell from the photos posted here, and I am not nearly as familiar with the area as others on the forum. What are some possible landmarks? Is it on the same side of the street as Derby King? Quote

I had about three hours work before dinner and increasingly found the room becoming generally pretty cold but I could not find the air conditioner control. Since no one answered the phone after half a dozen phone calls to reception, I made the long walk. Oh, there is no control, I was informed. Our management took surveys before we opened and 21 degrees was found to be the most suitable temperature. Not for me, I replied. I live in the tropics and I have my overnight air con on at 25 degrees. How can you possibly have a temperature that fits every guest, I asked, somewhat grumpily? No answer. But two heaters arrived soon after. WIth no carpeting, noises from above are always an issue. In my case, having set my alarm for 07:00, I was wakened by a very loud bang from above when a guest clearly let his large case slide on to the floor without any consideration for other guests. One reason why I do not like uncarpeted rooms. This hotel was one of the worst I have stayed at. In the shower room, there was only an open shower with no small floor barrier between the shower and the rest of the room. I have had this sort of room many times and never had a problem. But this one, either by accident (?) or or design, happened to result in water flowing out of the shower area. My slippers and the bath mat were therefore totally sodden when I turned the shower off. I then had to use the brush to get rid of as much water as i could. In those days I was writing Tripadvisor reports. This was my worst airport hotel experience. jimmie50 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Last night around 9pm I was walking down Patpong Night Market from Silom towards Surawong and walked past White Cat location. The pink sign from the previous bar was gone and a new sign above the door with a new name. No longer called White Cat evidently. I took a photo and have been trying to upload it but without much success. Keep getting an error message. Anyway, the new sign does in fact say Big Boy Bar & Host Club / Sexy Boy and Cabaret Show / Show Time 10:30pm. I should also note that the door was closed and locked, and no signs of life other than the new sign. Did not appear anyone was around or that the venue was actually open for business. vinapu and bkkmfj2648 2 Quote
