It sure is a pain but ever since I started traveling I have had at least 2 credit/charge cards and one is never in my wallet. So if a wallet ever disappeared, at least I could pay hotel bills etc.

I am the same as you.  My wallet stays in my condo safe lockbox 99% of the time.  It only comes out when I need to travel or go to immigration or to see my visa agent.

Thanks to you Vinapu - I have implemented the different denominations are in different pockets safety protocol. One pocket is dedicated with laminated copies of original ID documents - 2 Thai driving licenses, passport ID and visa expiration pages, and global insurance card.  If any are lost/stolen then the originals are safely in the condo safe box.  If the police want to see the original driving license they instead get to see the legally valid digital version on the Thai DLT QR Licence app:

if stolen , only portion of our wealth disappear

prevents from  accidentally pulling wrong note and tipping 1000 instead of intended 100 for example

poking nobody's eye when fat wallet is shown and customer tries to find proper banknote

I was travelling! The second occasion was at an airport and I had just had to show my airline card. In general, if at home the wallet is safely tucked away.

When flying long distance on planes, I have always changed into looser clothes. Even then my wallet comes out of my pants and is stored safely. I heard decades ago of some passangers who go through some overhead bins looking for jeans and trousers with wallets in them.

I personally think keeping an eye on 1 wallet is easier than money in 4-6 pockets. In crowded spaces i hold the wallet with 1 hand in the pocket.

Small and big denominations are kept apart within the wallet.

It would drive me crazy to have money in so many pockets

I rather agree  a buttoned back pocket suits me.

it's probably one of those " tea or coffee in the morning" things, no right or wrong , just personal habits developed over increasingly long lives
