Well, it depends on the source of your embarrassment. I visited VN with husband for now 10+ times, lived in dozen of cities, every time have stayed in hotels and had no any problems even once: from family owned hotels to network hotels. No once - nor in hotels, nor in straight clubs/pubs/bars, no during different services like taxi...

Two the same guys walking in every day, day after dayt are likely not bringing much of scrutiny.
June 23Jun 23 It is against the law for a Vietnamese citizen to be in a hotel room with a foreigner. Most hotels do enforce this. They don’t really care whether two foreigners share a room, male or female, but they do care if a Vietnamese citizen wants to visit the hotel room of a foreigner.
June 23Jun 23 It was the law in 2024 when I was last in Vietnam. If it has changed, that would be an improvement.
June 24Jun 24 Correction I guess. It turns out that it is no longer the law exactly, but the police can come in on morals charges, so most hotels still enforce this. When I was in Vietnam, I was told that it was the law, and it certainly was the case at any hotel that we stayed in.
June 24Jun 24 There are a ton of airbnb listings in Hanoi. Probably want to check them over carefully to make sure you're not being watched.
