  1. I was really pissed off when Flush Limbaugh received the Medal of Freedom. Below sums up my feelings perfectly.
  2. So sorry to hear of your recent challenges. I've missed your posts and wondered what happened. Your current situation scares the s**t out of me. We had / have similar mobility issues and I'm not ready for hospital stays or rehab / rest home. I truly hope that your stay is not months but weeks. Hope you are able to post more. I know it's a pain to type from bed. But, hang in there and know we'd love to see you back on this site.
  3. I have so impressed with performances by this gay church janitor. What a voice! What a story! What a great representative to the LGBT community! Here is a clip of him performing the Elton John classic “We All Fall in Love Sometimes”. It brought tears to my eyes. http://www.towleroad.com/2019/04/jeremiah-lloyd-harmon-elton-john/
  4. In an earlier life I was a sign interpreter for the deaf. Actually did court room interpreting in San Diego. About 95% of the time it included hand signing. But, one man grew up hearing and became deaf later in life. Sign language was very difficult for him and he relied on lip reading. So, when he went to court I did NOT use sign language but mouthed the words. It's often difficult to understand lip reading from unfamiliar people (mustaches, fat lips, etc). Not at all unusual for a marginally signing deaf person to rely on an interpreter that he / she can easily lip read.
  5. He was the first guy that I saw with a totally frontal nude shot in a movie from about 1978. I believe the movie was named Buster and Billy. Saw while out to sea on a submarine. It was one of our favorite movies!!!
  6. I can still get into the tub. But, I've added a shower chair since I can't stand / shower at the same time. Even have a grab bar but can't shower while standing up.
  7. So glad you're getting good healthcare. I believe we've posted before our common problem with mobility. Mine is very slowly getting better but it remains a major concern. Made the mistake this week of sitting on the couch and was stuck there for an hour before finding the strength / hand holds to get up. So great you've got a Dr. willing to come to you. Hope things get better.
  8. I was totally surprised that I was getting a federal and Oregon state refund. Only owed California $150 this year. So, retirement and the tax cuts seem to be working for me.
  9. I was lucky enough to see her on Broadway in her 1,999 performance as Dolly. What an experience!!!
  10. What surprised me was when announced a body double (dressed in the deceased clothing) was used to show the deceased "actually" left the embassy. Heads should roll (literally) after this situation.
  11. When I showed up last month my replacement (a junior guy that is way underpaid) had a "to do" list for me of things I needed to accomplish that week. Took all the pressure off me and I completed his checklist before coming home. FYI, before "promoting" the junior guy, I interviewed several guys for my replacement. Their salary requirements were TWICE what I was making and they had no specific experience in our specific work area. They were well-qualified on using the software but they didn't know our industry. The junior guy we promoted is doing such a great job and is making half of my salary. Trying my best to continue mentoring him and making sure management is aware of the great job he is doing. Like I said before, I've got a really sweet deal and don't mind him now being my boss. I make sure he's in charge and certainly don't try to second guess his decisions the 1 week I'm at work. We seem to have a great relationship. He doesn't call often but when he runs into a issue he'll ask my opinion. I feel he respects me and appreciates that I make sure everyone knows the throne has shifted from me to him.
  12. I've intentionally limited my participation on this site because of log on issue. Doesn't seem to be getting any better. FYI my old computer took a dump. I'm now on Windows 10 with the latest firefox.
  13. Totally off-topic from the ad issue, but I had something happen this past month that really has my shorts in a bunch. I noticed a neighbor of +25 years had died. I posted her obit on FB for only my immediate family. 3 weeks later FB sent me "friend" suggestion for this dead person. Really has me pissed off.
  14. I semi-retired the end of June and moved from San Diego. I spend 70% of my time in Portland and 25% in Salt Lake City. My company pays me to work 1 week per month in San Diego. They pay airfare and hotel and I earn the maximum monthly amount I'm allowed without hurting my Social Security. The San Diego project is currently $1.5 billion and, for political reasons, my continued involvement is adventitious to the company since it is partially funded by the federal government. Still showing me as an active employee satisfies the fed requirement. I've got a sweet deal. Leave on Sunday for San Diego. Airline has already upgraded me to 1st class for free so it will be a nice trip.
  15. I first had sex with another guy when I was 12 (1965). I continued having sex with guys until I was 23 in 1976 but didn't consider myself as gay. I was dating women but not having sex with them. The first time I considered myself "gay" was when I went to my first gay bar (New Orleans) with 2 other sailors from the Navy. Didn't know it was a gay bar and was actually the first bar I had ever been in. After that, there was no turning back and I've been openly gay since then. FYI, after coming out I held 2 top secret security clearances and being gay has never been a problem. But, if I had tried to hide my "gayness" that would have been a problem. As long as you honest about things, security clearances are not a problem.
