i was interrupting my reporting from Colombia, because i was not able to post pictures correctly from my phone. as now i am home and i have access from PC, i hope i will have better luck.... next day my friend Mauricio and myself went to mercado de usaguen. the big market is there only on sunday, however the neighbouring shops are open all days. there are some tourists, however 90 % of the visitors are columbians. they sell variety of domestic goods, like t-shirts, candles, soaps, ponchos, leather and textile goods. prices are very low and the quality of goods is nice. Mauricio was drinking juice of lulu fruit, which is micture of lemon and pinaple taste. fruit itself can be seen on a picture behind mauricio. for the evening we went to andres de res restaurant, that is located in a shopping mall in bogota. superb grill - parilla food. i highly recomend it. however don't forget the reservation it's packed. from restaurant we move to teatron. i have to see the largest disco club, particularly if it is gay. nice place to go and watch young colombians to dance. however, i think that on avarage guys are much nicer in brazil. maybe because, they are taller..... we don't try to connect to locals and retorn to hotel around 1.30 in the morning.....

It can be cool in the evening and in the mornng. Throughout the day is warm, between 20 - 25 degrees celzius. I was wearing a shirt and had a feeling that is too warm most of the day. Locals mostly wear sweaters and jackets, i thnk that they exegerate. Bogota is 2.700 meters above sea level, monserrat mountain is 3.200.

The first morning we went to fruit market in Palaquemao in Bogota. It is nice and clean place. A lots of various fruits. We have bought a small quantities of 5 types of fruits that i didn't know and strawberies for my friend. Very interesting tasting, and also Strawberries very delisious. Mauricio looks tired on this picture because we got drunk a night before with aguardiente. Then we went to center of the city and we have joined a free walking tour. The tour is organized by Bogota Pass as a teaser for other tours. Nice walking with a great looking guide. He told us a lot About indians, spaniards coming to columbia, and a city itself. This was followed by a trip to Monserrat, which is a mountain over Bogota. View was not much up to, because of hazy weather, but the air is fantastic. They even have a tree, with a strong pleasan smell, which is a drug. Therefore, it is not recomended to sleep under it. On the average the boys in columbia do not look as good as in brazil. Fitnes awareness is not that high, and boys are smaller. However, because of unemployment and low wages they are very available. Most of the boys do not want to talk about sex, also my mauricio. But when he is in hotel room, he turns into little devil. I was surprised, because on two occasions he actully wanted sex without condom, which i have thanfully declined.

I have arrived to bogota on friday afternoon. All arrival procedures were very swift So i could finally hug my bogota guide Mauricio. His english is not very good, but we can communicate. He knows llittle about Bogota sights, but i have prepared progran, so he just has to get us there. He shows me his ID. He was born in 1993 and he looks me very strange, why should i check his age as this is not important here. We went for a romantic dinner in restaurant called Santa fe, which i found on tripadvisor. Food and chillean wine are supurb. We continue to gay bar el perro y candelaria. My guide sad the place is not good. Well, i can Understand him, because it was for guides over 30, but it is very alive, crowded and good music. We have destroyed a small bottle of agurdiente, which brought us in a very hot moot. I have finally made it to Mexico City. It has been on my list for awhile and with a push from Floridarob I arrived yesterday. Short 3 hour flight from Atlanta which is the reason I was looking at it. Getting too old for those 26 hour trips to Thailand more then once a year. Luckily the $ has been extremely strong so 17 pesos to the dollar was the rate. Airport is definitely old but clean. I was first off the airplane so short line through immigration and customs. They have like 4 taxi companies where you buy in advance in the terminal. The rates vary greatly. Not sure why probably because of size of car etc. I choose the cheapest at 225 pesos $13.00. No waiting , small car but clean. About 20 minutes to the Hotel. I am staying at the LeMeridien on points. An all suite hotel and the rate if you pay is about $100 so it would appear nice Hotels are very fairly priced. For future trips I did look on Airbnb and found many nice apartments at $70 or less in good locations. This is a big city so you need to know where you will be staying so as not have trouble getting boys etc. The Hotel has had no problem with guests but need key for elevator so I meet them out front. I have had a couple of real nice meals in sit down restaurants where I could not finish the plates and the prices were reasonable. Did not find Gayromeo much use and Hornet way better then Jack'd or Grindr. I do not like Saunas so did not bother looking for info but I understand there are 1 or 2. I love the apps but it is more challenging here because I speak little Spanish and the boys are not used to using translations on their phone. I would say 20% speak some English. I am looking for Twink Bottoms and I would have to say the majority of boys interested in money are Tops but there are so many boys , it is not a problem finding Bottoms. I just say hi and ask to see private photos and then shortly after I put Sexo Por Dinero. If a boy does not respond I delete him and move on. I would say at least 40% ask how much and for how long. Once they ask that question it just becomes a matter of making sure they know what you want and are willing to pay. I am certainly no expert after 2 days but the prices have quite a wide range. When a boy asked me how much I start at 700 pesos $40 which is a bit higher then the bottom because I know some escorts on the link I supplied ask as low as 400 $23. There are quite a few Colombian boy who visit and they are asking 1500-2000 which is 2 to 3 times what they can get in their home Country. Don't know if they get it but not from me. I have 1 boy I plan on paying 1000 because he started at 1500 and I want him . Just about everyone else has been fine with 700. Frankly there are so many boys , there is no reason to overpay. I'll post a few city photos later on but there are parts that are quite beautiful with wide Boulevards lined with trees.. The photos below are all photos from the boys and so far they have looked exactly like the photos with maybe a little photo shop on some. I forgot to mention that I failed to check the altitude before this trip and was worried when I realized it is over 7000 ft ASL. Bogota was 8700 ft ASL and it took me 24 hours to be able to walk to the corner. I have had only a little problem here of being tired from walking sooner then normal. I forgot to mention, my kind of weather , in the 50's at night and the 70's during the day. No rain in the forecast .

It is not that men in Medellin in are more handsome. It is that they are more available and that the market for sexual favors is better developed than in Cali, Bogota or Cartagena/Barranquilla. It would be like saying that the men of Rio or Sao Paolo are better looking than elsewhere in Brasil. The presence of the market attracts both buyers and sellers. Those with the best goods tend to migrate to where they can achieve the best prices. That said, the ethnic differences between different regions of Colombia can be profound. The coast, cartagena and barranquilla, is essentially Caribbean. Bogota is visibly more indigenous ethnically. Medellin has a bit more European ethnic character. And the sugar cane fields have made Cali the center of African ethnicity in Colombia.

i am talking to some students to be my guides. actually i have 2 for bogota and 2 for cartagena. none for medellin yet. it worked in brasil, hoefully it will work there. but you never know, before you are there..... grindr and hornet are options no 2. saunas are the last option, because i actually prefer semi profesionals, to those who are in business every day. but every country has its specifics. i know that....

I've been to Bogota, Cali, Cartagena and Medellin..... only the latter I ran into that...my experience, doesn't mean you will have the same outcome, but 2 things in 1 visit was a bad ratio. Time passes and what seems like last year, might have been 3 yrs ago....so not sure exactly, I'd have to look at passport or pics to figure it out, lol

Interesting. I have visited Bogota and Medellin twice and never experienced any of those problems. Although to be honest I stuck to more upscale neighborhoods. Certainly I would feel the same way. Wonder how long ago those visits were?

JAYBLK, many thanks for your report. I was an exchange student with La Universidad de los Andes in Bogota awhile ago and your report brought back some very pleasant memories. One of my hangouts (outside the University) was the bar at the Hotel Tequendama, a great place (then) to hook up with both local and foreign guys. I recall spending time with a local businessman I met there at Villa de Leyva - a well-preserved colonial town not too far outside Bogota that I would highly recommend (the place that is). I have gotten back to Colombia since then, on business and to see my host family, but your post has reminded me that it is time for a return visit.

Just got back from Colombia. Your best bet in finding a guide is to contact one of the English-speaking prepares via Grindr or Hornet. They are few, and far between. But, I wouldn't count on bumping into an English speaker at Tobi. The best statistics I have seen suggest that 3% of Colombians are reasonably fluent in English. Most of them don't come from the same economic classes as the prepagos do. By the way, without English, the Grindr and Hornet apps are your only chance of finding reasonably-priced fun in Barranquilla, Cartagena, Cali or even Bogota. Chaturbate is also extremely well-established in Colombia and served as a way to meet and get to know a few Colombians for me. Again, not many English speakers.

That did not happen to me at Hiltons in Bogota but it is close to 2 year since my last visit. Also that does not bother me and actually provides another level of safety.

I've had questions asked of my guests and all had to leave a photo copy of ID. A couple of them had to be registered. Hilton Cartagena, W Bogota, Sheraton Medellin, Hampton by Hilton Cali, Hilton Bogota.

Im writing from Medellin right now and have visited Cali, Cartagena and Bogota on this trip. Medellin is by far the most active city and the only one with anything like a Brazilian sauna. I have managed to connect with a few guys for free via Grindr and Hornet. And I even arranged in person meetings with a couple of my favorite Chaturbaters. I can imagine any of that having happened if I spoke no Spanish.

The best of Columbia are the masseurs at Club Tobi in Medellin. A relax massage is 30000 COP, a regular massage is 50000 and a full massage is 70000. That's $10, $16 and $22. ( I never noticed a difference between the $16 and $22 sessions) And they don't expect a tip ! For the $16 or $22 session they will do anything you want and would be glad to discretely meet at your hotel where they can keep everything they make. Only 3 masseurs most nights but solid 9's on a scale of 1-10. Bogota is more expensive but anywhere in Columbia 150 Euro sounds more like a price to "buy" rather than "rent". I only saw a couple escort ads in Bogota and those were in Euros and too high so I imagine they try to snag international travelers and businessmen who are used to those prices. Columbians aren't. Grindr, at least in Medellin, is full of "Prepaygos".......Grindr hasn't learned the slang yet. Certainly meet a safe place in public ! Also there's a male brothel in Medellin I hear. .

Never had a problem in Bogota or Medellin Hotels. Cartagena was an apartment but I would guess you don't have much to worry about.

Now in Cartagena. Its difficult to get much information at this time but it appears that the High Park in Bogota is no more but there is now a High Park Hotel in Cartagena in an outlying neighborhood not too far from the walled city. I stayed there (Bogota High Park) and had an excellent experience.

Im planning a 10 day trip to Colombia and I need more info on the Non-Medellin cities. What is the 2015 scene like in Cartagena? Cali? Bogota? Can anyone suggest a reliable tour guide in any of those cites. I speak Spanish but would still love to get the lay of the land from a local. Are there saunas or hustler bars of note in any of these cities? Any places to avoid? Thanks for the advice.

Hi Guys, Thanks again for your feedback. Eventhough it's not what i want to hear, It is greatly appriciated. I have done my research and i was lucky enough to get some direct information from you guys. My friend also told me things I didn't want to hear so my visit to Brazil will be short. A few days Rio and Sao, then on to Bogota for 7 days and the rest I wil spend in mexico. This should be enough time to visit a few saunas and do some tourist stuff. Who knows, if I get a sauna in, i might even go crazy on a beach :-) water looks lovely there. Bogota has been on my list for a long time now. As i read here and there, it can also be unsafe. I have some specific places that i want to visit so a week should be long enough. When i started writing about my past experiences in Mexico, i got curious. So i pulled up a gay map and scrolled to DF. Seems like things are pretty much the same and I really had a great time there. I'm a lot older now so I wonder if i can still meet people that easily. I was in Cartagena 2 years ago and rented a fabulous Penthouse on the beach from VRBO. Don't remember the price but far cheaper then nice Hotels. Trip Advisor is your friend if looking for reviews of hotels as well as Booking.com. Good that you speak Spanish because it is easily the most only Spanish city between Bogota, Medellin and Cartagena. I don't speak spanish and even the restaurants had Spanish menus only and very difficult to get around if you don't speak Spanish. . That said a very beautiful and Historic City o the Sea.

One more thing. I remember my first trip to Brazil and particularly my first time in a Brazilian sauna. I was fascinated by the idea of the saunas. However, when it came to my actual first visit, I found it nearly impossible to put aside my inhibitions. I went in to the sauna with unfounded trepidation.
