Reporting on Rio saunas - January 2017

Like a group chatting in one's home, obviously without a moderator, this topic really pivoted off topic from a Rio review. No harm no foul. I am not myself squeaky clean. And who does not like social interaction? In that sense, 24 replies is no surprise.

Some of the 30,000 users here might be trying to quickly scan the many posts. Or I would hope they would contribute. But they might have a hard time pulling out all the themes and sub-topics in order to draft a coherent post within a thread.

Or a rare poster may wonder how to interject on the original theme, following contributions that might be more appropriately clustered under a different heading.

It is so easy to create a new heading ... one might veer off that way with personal anecdotes. They are often interesting and entertaining. And they show up first in order, so get read.

I have a lot of free time, but I know of a few employed fellows whose view is that these posts can be unwieldy when the contributions tangent off the title.

Maybe it does not matter. Apparently, there are so many readers here, as well as lapsed members, compared to a much smaller "board of directors". But I wonder if attracting more regular contributors, even a dozen or so within LatinAmer post, would occur if themes are tighter.

As a regular reader, after merely a few days off, I had hoped to read more title-relevant additions. Some topics seemed to have faded out and were redundant or not relatable to me. Previously, I had taken a break of a few weeks. Catching up posed a considerable challenge.

I like to read the threads and keep up on topics so that I myself don't become redundant. It is a big time commitment.

One final thing, at the risk of deviating from the topic. Well, it is already off course already.

Yeah, so be free to be complex and brain-teasing. I actually prefer a little mental gymnastics to keeping up with detailed accounts of events.

This is a text site, not sound to ear. Some anecdotes are better described at the dinner table ... not everyone has the attention span to read and follow every account in words. But like SOME folks, I enjoy and value GP ideas at the Gregory Mitchell level. I will commit the attention span. It is not a question of high-brow vs low-brow. I just prefer to mix up the baser (not meant in a bad way) aspects of the sex focus with some degree of, how shall I say ... well some of you get my drift.

I hope my addition here is clear enough ... I had to work harder compared to some of my more free-style contributions. I think some of you have commented that I am working too hard crafting some of those. Truth is, I hammer them out with less thought. It is at those times I am leaning towards laziness. They can be quirky, I know. Haha, even when I revisit them. That is how I have always written first first drafts of subsequently heavily self-edited published pieces, but I received compensation. Posting here is a hobby.

I realize commentators are extending themselves in some way, so thanks again.

Perhaps in future I should warn you when in that kind of head space ;)

BACK to the Rio review topic. I want to lay low in terms of posting on my extended forthcoming visits. I think I will try to restrict it to any new information, alerts, etc that would be relevant for navigating the scene.

I hope to see more visitors to this site and Rio adding their reviews.

There is a lot of practical info posted here but, again, I am happy to address questions through private message, as has occurred already occasionally. Some readers just prefer that method. Examples: Metro and Light-Rail Transit, 1/6th day rooms, neighbourhoods closer to Catete/Gloria.

I guess my experience is similar to Oz and Tom's.  Here in Brazil especially if you visit frequently or live here part-time or year round, stay in good physical shape, speak the language, and are outgoing, it's not all that  difficult to hook up on a non-commercial basis, have a longer-term thing going, or simply make new male friends.   Speaking for myself the local gyms have  been a focal point  for all three categories over the years.   Which is certainly not to say that I haven't also indulged in commercial pursuits here  - this is after all an escort site.   As Tom points out, once you break into a local social circle, as he clearly has in Merida, it gets much easier to meet guys.

Good to know. Ha ha ... maybe I should dump my Rio fitness trainer. Too occupied swooning over him to notice anyone else.

And I imagine there are academias catering more to MSM types, though perhaps a well kept secret?

Don't dump the trainer!  At least, not yet.  No, they won't act as your pimp LOL but they can help break the ice with *anyone* there you would like to get to know.   That's how I initially met guys at my academia.  Once general intro's are made and you see them working out later then you follow through but then it's  much easier to meet after a workout.

Also, you never know.  I've never hooked up with a  personal trainer I've worked with - you can see where that would get dicey on both sides -but one hooked me up with a personal at a different gym he was friends with.  Naturally, that was a commercial transaction (and well worth it!).

I get smiles from those trainers at the academias all the time.  I wonder what would happen if I just walk up to them and say "I want to suck your cock".  :D:D:D:D

A little on the nose ... how about "I would blow someone to get spot on my chest press." That allows the option of getting spot while you jerk the bar, and opening up other possibilities.

I'm not sure about "tighter" themes. But I am sure about friendliness and a welcoming attitude. I am taking my second trip to Brazil in 7 days. I previously came to these forums and asked many questions before my first trip almost exactly one year ago. I was alternately welcomed, helped, and belittled. I have a pretty thick skin, so I skipped over the few posts with a nasty attitude and welcomed the people who were willing to help me, even if my question might have been answered at some point a few years ago elsewhere in the archives of this forum. Honestly, thank you to everybody who read my questions and responded politely.

Before I left for Brazil, I had been working on a report from my visits to Costa Rica, which included information that I had never seen covered in these forums. I was working on an exhaustive report, and I planned to add my own impressions of Rio. Unfortunately, I came back from Rio with a serious illness that lasted for several weeks. When I was feeling better and logged back into this site, I found multiple posts (albeit mostly from one person) complaining about people who visit this site and ask questions and then don't "contribute" in return.

I had persevered through several unwelcoming/insulting responses prior to my trip. But in that just-getting-over-a-serious-illness state, and combined with the nastiness of the continued griping, I simply decided to walk away, and forget both my Brazil report and my Costa Rica report.

I came back to this site out of curiosity a few weeks ago, in anticipation of my upcoming trip. I am excited to visit Brazil again. I welcome all the updates and reports of people's visits to Brazil. I hope to add my own in the future. I'm going to do my best to ignore the (still present) person who is the source of most of the negativity in this forum (although I halfway expect an attack in response to this post).

I enjoy reading about other people's experiences, and planning for my own trips. I'm reading the recent reports of Rio and making my own plans at the moment. I hope to add my own notes once I return. It would be awesome to contribute in my own way and in my own time without facing the withering negativity that is all-too-often seen on this site.

Torogen, I hope you won't let possible negativity deter you from posting here. After all, this is the internet and you never know what problems or difficulties other posters face. I like this site simply because of the exchange of information and views.

Also I'd urge you to revive, finish and post your draft report on Costa Rica. I think it could well be of great interest to people thinking of travelling there.

I second those emotions above, and there is more commonality with your impressions and experiences, torogen, than there is sympatico with snarkiness. There are dozens upon dozens reading your posts. A handful (fingerful?) of posters can be on the nasty side, with impunity of course.

I suggest mentally flipping your own finger but using that finger to like some of "their" posts, as in all tribes the village idiot angling for shaman status hungers for recognition and is often easily sated.

I too suffered with illness acquired in Rio two years ago. I am glad you are OK.

If one could so easily understand why some people are attracted to others...! In this forum it seems most feel that it could only be one sided....and on the subject of what does this one or the other get for the interaction, isnt that a reciprocal benefit on each and every relationship?? Many of us have rejected a longer term relationship because as Totally Oz says with moneyboys is more about us and not necessarily about their needs, other than financial.  The constant looking around for the perfect sex is also a way of avoiding intimacy, of staying away from painful heartbreaks.  A young guy may see himself in the power seat and enjoy that situation of being wanted and lusted after.  Of course, when I read about a poster talking about falling in love with one of the moneyboys, I cant help it but to feel very pessimistic about it and hope the poster realizes the extent of a fantasy.  But is all about taking risks....at the sauna the loss may be just be a few bucks if the program is not to your liking...on the other situation you stand to lose sleep and much more than that.

So the question for us, more important than the question of what does the young guy get or doesnt get, would be what do we get from that brief moment of bliss.... and what is it that we are not getting as well!

I tend to fall in love when I visit Brazil, but I always fall out of love when I return to my home country. The same process repeats on every visit.

Brazil is a playground for me, not my real life.
