Argentinian numbers

I am having an issue to find my soytuyo escorts on Viber and WhatsApp. I think I am using their numbers incorrectly, unless someone confirms that they simply don’t use these apps in Argentina?
I had no trouble finding escort on WhatsApp in Uruguay so it seems unlikely.

For Argentina, I am using the numbers as per soytuyo.

tel:+54 911-6488-5602

Soytuyo claims that this is the international number for the local number 011-15-6488-5602 which is quite different.

So 2 questions:
1 Is there something wrong here with the numbers?
2 do guys in Argentina use WhatsApp?

Thanks in advance for your help guys.

The use of WhatsApp in Argentina is massive.

I am not sure about the phone numbers system. I know they have different prefixes for land lines or for cell phones, but they have changed the system already three times since I left, so I am not sure where it stands now.

I am surprised the numbers stated in soytuyo do not work. Did you try to reach their customer service? Perhaps they can help you.

This should help in calling to and/or from most countries:

Why not just use numbers?

The symbol + is used because the numbers dialed to start an international call vary from country to country.

For example, most European countries use '00' to start an outbound international call, whereas all of North America uses '011'.

Other countries use different codes entirely.

As an example, if a British business displayed its phone number as 0044 20 7946 0018, somebody dialing from Germany would be correctly connected because Germany uses '00' for making international calls. However, somebody dialing from Australia would not get through, as Australia uses 0011 for outbound international calls instead.

__________________________

The alternate number that was given to you does not include the country dialing code for Argentina, which is - 54 -

Therefore use the number in your example that begins with +

You might have experienced a down town time with the telephone company provider when you tried to make calls.  Try again.

That is not my problem,  Mvan,  my question is why soytuyo insists (on all their escorts) that their international number should have a ‘9’ added at the beginning  and the 15 removed.  See all these escorts and the numbers that soytuyo.com insist should be used:

Argentina did what many other countries did after the enormous growth of the cell phone industry.  Argentina and other countries were running out of telephone numbers and had to do something to remedy the shortage of numbers to accommodate the influx of new and future telephone numbers needed.

Argentina and many other countries left the  basic telephone number the same but added (changed) the beginning of the number by adding a formula to increase the numbers available and to identify a cell phone number.

For example, in Brazil, a few years ago all cell phone numbers in the larger cities simply added  - 9 - to the beginning of the number.

In Argentina, for cell phones, the prefix 911 now replaces the former prefix of 15.

Unrelated but incidental to the above is the fact that international long distance calling was simplified by the use of the + as discussed in my first response.

Another thing you might want to try is to add an escort's name and phone number to your phone's contacts list.  After you add the contact, go to whatsapp and refresh your contacts.  You should automatically find the escort's name and number in whatsapp.  I just did that as an example and it worked for one of the escorts you listed in your inquiry.  Good luck -

That is what I am doing but which phone number? The local or the international one?

It only worked with Leo”s number for me, and only after I edited it.

Wikipedia is your friend. They explain this:

Mobile phone numbers follow a different pattern. The prefix 9 must be added before the area code, leaving out the 15 after the area code, which is only used when calling domestically. The inbound dialing pattern for mobiles is then: +54, 9, area code, mobile subscriber's number (notice how the 15 domestic prefix is omitted). For example, to call mobile number (223) 15 123-4567 (in Mar del Plata) from outside Argentina, the dialling sequence is: +54 9 223 123-4567.

Inbound SMS
To send an SMS text message to an Argentine cell phone from another country, the 9 used internationally when dialing the number for a voice call (and the 15 used for calls within Argentina) is omitted. For example, if the mobile number in Argentina is (11) 15 1234-5678, a voice call from abroad would be dialled as +54 9 11 1234 5678, but a text message would require +54 11 1234 5678, with +54 9 11 1234 5678 usually being invalid. If a text message is received from Argentina, the reply can be sent to the number displayed as the sender. Not all mobile providers in Argentina have SMS agreements with every carrier in the world,[7] so it may not be possible to send an international SMS.

So Soytuyo is kind of right, but if you do calls and sms, it is an utter mess!

If you use whatsapp for text, you will not have a problem provided you are able to see the person's name in your whatsapp contact list.

After a few tries, using whatsapp for text will be like second nature to you.

I use whatsapp's both phone and text international every day and never have a problem.

I know, I know, I have worked and lived in 5 different countries and visited 44 countries in my life. I know how to use international phone numbers and how to use WhatsApp, but was failing because, as Wikipedia describes, Argentina is a special case and there are different numbers depending if you call from abroad, or text from abroad. I was trying to find them using the one for calls, but only some escorts use that on their WhatsApp, other use the number for texts to register their account.

Anyway, I am done now, I have contacted everyone I wanted, and booked 3 people, with a possible 4th.

"Argentina is a special case" - these are such wise words, @Tartegogo. They apply not only to escorts but to all other aspects of the country. I found that everything works there, but not in the way you'd expect from a European or North American standpoint.

I certainly recall this complication with the phone numbers. And before WhatsApp, I only called and never texted. I particularly remember how working guys there often changed their working name and, less often, their phone numbers. I met many nice, well-muscled guys who were keen to please and satisfy. But I also recall less pleasurably the chronic lateness of guys. The best and the worst example was a beautiful, green-eyed young soldier who turned up 2 hours late for our pre-dinner date of 8pm; he was terrific in bed and asked for very little; I finally took him to dinner just before midnight.
