I watched this tonight on PBS'S Masterpiece Theater telling the story of gay love in the 1940's which then jumps to a view of gay love today.  I was somewhat interested in the first hour but then the 2nd hour jumping to a 3rd generation with Vanessa Redgrave playing the matriarch the is the thread through all 3 generations.

It replays tomorrow.  I recommend it.

I just binged and enjoyed it. Nice to see Downton's Edith, Marchioness of Hexham, and Room With a View's George Emerson getting cameo roles. Redgrave heartbreaking, reminds me of Atonement's epilogue.

I started crushing on the actor playing 6'3" Berryman when he was Harker in the Brit Dracula series. However,  one howler breaking the serious tone was the extremely poor rendering of his face in the final portrait reveal of March's painting.

Another howler is the Grindr/Scruff hybrid app "Gruff".

I agree about the face on the portrait and missed the Gruff reference.  I find it useful with British series to have the subtitles showing.

I watch all English-language TV with language closed caption. My hearing is good but sometimes sound recording is bad or it is like actors have a mouth full of marbles.

It would be easy to miss the Gruff reference as it was just visual when younger Berryman scrolling a few seconds.

Apparently there's another ep in August and I don't understand why; it seemed nicely tied up at the end.

This is likely episode 2 rerun. It was originally conceived as 3 episodes, the 2nd ep set in the 1980s with an HIV theme, but the series was reworked to present only the 1940s and present day.
