Delta almost free tickets to Zurich

Delta Sky Miles (Sky Pesos) got a bad rap for good reason. Horrible redemption values. Then they dropped their reward charts. However lately that's turned out good as they have incredibly cheap specials pop up.

Right now on their nonstops from JFK to Zurich from late September to May (I think) many days it's as low as 22,000 miles roundtrip.  (It has to be roundtrip.) Fees are just $50 total. There are other low mileage redemptions to other cities from JFK but not quite as low. There are other specials from several cities to Sydney and Shangai (60K roundtrip).

I'm booking 2 trips to Zurich for 24K miles roundtrip each. Swiss air and other carriers have plenty of cheaqp flights to other cities. I know Vueling has flights to Prague often for $55 total. (That's how the guys travel). Wish I could talk some of them into coming over. If nothing else it's worth it for a few days at Patagonya.

Normally the lowest roundtrip to Zurich is 60K and those are hard to find. Normally to Asia it's 60K miles each way. (I'm not keen on steerage for 24 hours).

also- for a couple more days AmEx is offering the Delta credit card with mileage bonus. For the gold card it's 60,000 miles with no fee 1st year. And for the Platinum card it's 70,000 miles with a $195 annual fee. (I've had the gold so I'm getting the platinum).

If you can convince some Prague guys you know to come to Zurich and to Paragonya, you could have a great time.

As it is now, Paragonya has changed for the worse unless it improved this year.  I have not been there recently.  I stopped going there because it was no longer a fun place for me.

The facility is wonderful and clean and is located in an excellent area of Zurich.

My last few times I was there were dismal.  The available escorts were loud lady boys and/or Romanians.  The Romanians were noted for agreeing to a price for their services then making a horrible shouting scene demanding more than they had agreed.

Experiences like the above are not a good reason to return to Paragonya.

Even the Brazilians that used to go there in large numbers have trickled to a minimum.

But, like I said, if you could import your own, it is a different matter.

Seems Tasso is not alone for having observed this behaviour.

I was also very disappointed back in 2012 by the attitude of a group of Romanian hustlers in a hustler bar in Vienna. That is my only experience.

There must be some sort of organised “ring” that causes them to aggregate and then share a common behaviour like this, when abroad.

I mean, it is not as if Romanians in Romania are any worse than Italians in Italy.

A few years ago there was a wonderful hustler bar in Zurich called Carousel Bar - It had been in existence many years.

Suddenly, countless Romanians began to come there to hustle.  Not all, but many robbed clients and/or agreed to a certain price then demanded more from the clients after the deed was done.

Sadly, this continued for more than one year.  Eventually, business at the bar (fewer clients) began to get less and less.  Then, the last time I was there, the place was nearly empty of both clients and hustlers.  I asked one of the bartenders why it was so slow.  He told me that the owners had decided to close the bar.   The bar is now gone.

Now, you will find lots of Romanians at Paragonya.  Many are quite handsome and charming.  However, they will turn on you in a heart beat.  That, plus the loud lady boys, are why Paragonya is no longer the great sauna it once was.

The sauna and bar facilities at Paragonya are excellent and clean.  It is some of the people who visit there that make it less desirable.

I was there 2 days in July. The first day there was only one customer in Paragonya and the doorman told me not to waste my $37. The next day there were 20 or 30 people including a dozen escorts and some nice looking ones. None appealed to me personally though.

Just a couple months ago one of the posters here had 3-somes two days with Pavol and Dominik at Paragonya, the 2 hottest guys in Europe right now. So go figure.

If you notice when you go to Paragonya, there are usually tables with four to six local Swiss clients just sitting around talking and reading and drinking. while ignoring the hustlers.

I think that Paragonya, although it is still a sauna, gets a good portion of its revenue from the "regulars" who are Swiss clients who use the sauna as a social club rather than as a place to meet hustlers.

Without the "regulars" paying admission and buying drinks and snacks, the sauna could not stay open for long considering the few hustlers who now visit the sauna.  Like many things in life, places close and/or go out of business.  Who would have thought the nearby famous bar Carousel Bar would have gone out of business?

Don't forget, there is no charge to use the so-called rooms in the sauna.  Therefore, the number of hustlers does not materially impact revenue.

While it is true it is still possible to meet hustlers there, the quantity of good quality hustlers has diminished markedly.

And yet when I was in Zurich I met up with a Bel Ami flame of @Numerito's I've known online for a couple years. The met day he texted asking what I was doing and when I told him I was at Paragonya he asked how many clients were there, as if he works it but didn't want to pay and waste time if there were few clients. Pavol and Dominik being there floored me. My other BA friends from Prague are familar with it but rarely go there when in Zurich because they have so many clients.

That's a huge modern building in the center in a ritzy commerical neighborhood. Amazing they stay in business.

It is the luck of the draw.  Some days there are hustlers available while other days there are not.

Was your friend already in Zurich or did you make arrangements to meet there?

Don't the Bel Ami guys come from Hungary or Prague?

Great shot. That's Paragonya behind the red mark. It takes up most of that double building, a very modern building in a very ritzy area. I think it's the 2nd and 3rd floors. I wonder what it's like working in an office on the fourth floor. There's a gay bar next door in the older building.

Now, to find reasonably priced hotels within walking distance.

I always assumed it was named after Patagonia in Argentina in some language. lol

Indeed. Funny you mention Italians because they also used to have a reputation for uber- machismo. And recently people would say that to understand Hungarian men just think of Italian men's machismo. Guys from Romania are the latest version of this but with a decidedly rough twist. I think it's because of poverty at home and there being so many people from Romania that there are huge groups of them in every major western European city. They certainly seem to have monopolized the hustler trade and made it much less enjoyable or safe. As they integrate and Romania's economy comes up maybe the Muslim immigrants will take their place.

Also for those looking for the Delta bargains, there are still plenty. I got trips in October and March from DCA to Zurich for 26K roundtrip. I also noticed that flights from DCA to Athens were only 46K miles roundtrip while from JFK it was 70K. And the one guy got LAX to Barcelona for 32K RT for Halloween.

The entrance is up the stairs one floor up from street-grade, as some know. It appears to be more in the centre bowel of the building and the space expanding northward. The upper level with cabins may extend as far as the front facade ... I cannot remember if there is a window on the south side of that upper floor. There are definitely some north facing windows on the entrance level, overlooking the minor lane street behind. In the photo, obscured by the tree trunk.

I stayed next store and the pedestrian north-south street had all the food choices you could want.

Next door in the red hotel behind it? It's pretty expensive.

When you consider that the once famous and wonderful Carousel Bar of Zurich is now gone forever and that the Paragonya sauna is often filled with loud lady boys and pick pocketing Romanians, why would anyone want to visit Zurich and pay $300 to $400 daily for a hotel that is only equal to about a 3 or 4 star?

Furthermore, the hustlers from Paragonya ask three times (at least) the price of hustlers in sauna Thermas in Barcelona.

Zurich had its day and that day is gone.

There are other places close to Zurich that one can enjoy.

I paid about $135USD (no meals) for Hotel Scheuble in May in the desirable area and a half block from Paragonya, modern sleek interior reno with attractive detail in a bldg with classic facade, immaculate and quiet. I thought it might end up being 'crummy' but adequate. It was far from substandard.

Airbnb options in Zurich are few and I detected none in the Old Town for my dates.

I wanted for nothing, in all respects, so I cannot imagine what the apparent defunct halycon days were like.

the information about Zurich seems to be inaccurate. I have never seen lady boys in paragonya and I never seen 3 or 4 star hotel in your price range. Zurich is always worth a trip.

It does surprise me how many of the guys go to Basel instead of Zurich. But they're still going in droves.

That would be good news if the loud lady boys were not there anymore.  Although they have every right to be there, they are loud and sometimes  aggressive.

Did you go to Paragonya recently and a lot?  Or, did you just happen to be there a couple of times when there were not many lady boys?

As we know, a place can be quite different from one visit to another.

I stopped visiting Paragonya not long after the famous Carousel Bar closed.

Other posters have also reported about seeing lady boys at Paragonya and reported about negative experiences at Paragonya.  Check back through the postings.

I just looked at hotel prices in the area.  The prices are still in the 300 - 400 range.  Perhaps the rates are high because it is still summer and it is tourist season in Zurich and the hotels are in the better part of Zurich.

I am happy for you that you can still enjoy Zurich.  I used to enjoy that city a lot  Now, there are too many other  places in Europe where a fun time is more easy to predict.  Barcelona is a place I have visited many times and I have never been disappointed there.

By the way, below is a screen shot of hotel prices in Zurich for this time of year.  Some are cheap but many are outrageously priced and many claim to be four and five star but they are not:

I paid about $135USD (no meals) for Hotel Scheuble in May in the desirable area and a half block from Paragonya, modern sleek interior reno with attractive detail in a bldg with classic facade, immaculate and quiet. I thought it might end up being 'crummy' but adequate. It was far from substandard.

Airbnb options in Zurich are few and I detected none in the Old Town for my dates.

I wanted for nothing, in all respects, so I cannot imagine what the apparent defunct halycon days were like.

You got lucky in getting the Scheuble for that price.  Maybe an advance prepaid rate?

Here is the current rates for Scheuble:

Did you visit Paragonya and have a good time?  Would you compare the place similarly to sauna Thermas in Barcelona?

Were the loud lady boys gone?

What was the approximate asking price for the guys in Paragonya?

I always liked the facilities there.  The place is clean and somewhat elegant.  It was the major negative changes that caused me to stop visiting there.

Maybe I can give the place another try.
