It funny how we all are different. I can't even imagine paying 5 $ for a coffee but do think nothing to up expected boy's tip by 500 baht just because he is hard already when he is undressing. On another hand if somebody would criticize my spending habits I stop for a second to consider that he may be somewhat right as we all do stupid things in life and often somebody sober needs to point it out.

i'd say correct way is: you sit in the bar , buy a drink as a substitute for an entrance fee you have boy sitting with you for a while - either buy him a drink or probably better slips him 100 at least , preferably into front of his briefs. Everything above is up to you. I personally don't see anything wrong in coming to bar and offing boy right away without buying a drink and do it sometimes if I already know who I'm looking for but I make sure I don't sit there in such a case. I'm firmly in the bar camp for reason underlined and so eloquently explained by you above. Even better is to have a massage with prospective boy as it gives even more intimate time with him. But I fully understand firecat's reasoning that apps are cheaper and 7/24 proposition as well that boy picked up in the flesh may be as much disappointing as stranger showing at the door.
