I wouldn't call it gambling. They always believe there is a chance of an off. I would say coming early puts them in the good books of the boss. There have been occasions when regular customers call boss for boys to go to hotel at 8pm for massage and boss would ask anyone present to take up the assignment. As for arriving by 2159, that is absolute deadline otherwise they are deemed as not showing up for work. Penalty of 500 baht if I remember correctly.

I believe that is the reason. Latest rule just announced at Freshboys is that everyone must report for work 24 December to 2 January. If the guys want to miss work, they have to pay 1000 baht. (Instead of the usual 500 baht)

Yes. It is a strange rule but T.I.T. 🤷‍♂️ There is also another rule. Guys who don't get offed in one night are allowed to take the following night off from work if they wish to. But it doesn't apply to weekend nights.

Yes. Some guys forgo the early reporting 200 baht. They are confident of securing offs or they know they can at the very least earn some money from drinks and tips. They also don't want to stand on stage for the additional one hour from 8pm to 9pm when there are few customers. Customers only start filling the bar from 9.30pm onwards. And yes, there are guys whom I know who meet customers for dinner from 7pm to 9pm.

I believe there are two different menus. The menu that most customers are shown is the red menu showing individual drinks. I was shown the full menu because I ordered a bottle of whisky. I agree with @hank75 that second drinks should be cheaper.

In the past, before the current 7.30pm rule, many guys would only turn up at 9pm. Customers who arrived early at 8pm and saw that there were only 3 or 4 guys would make a U-turn and exit. Hence, the boss implemented the rule to ensure at least 7 or 8 guys are available when bar opens officially at 8pm.

Freshboys management wants guys to be available on stage for customers when bar opens doors at 8pm hence it mandates 7.30pm reporting time. Guys who do so receive 200 baht. Those who report after 7.30pm receive no money and have to depend on boy drinks, tips and offs.

I applaud these bars who show loyalty to such long-serving employees! It's true that such employees will always have a place in the shows.

Here's my attempt to explain bar logic. Jupiter's models are famous because they are recorded on video when they do catwalk on stage and the videos are uploaded on Jupiter's social media. Perhaps your guy had some fans who noticed he's not in videos nowadays and they asked for him back? Having more models available also projects a better image for the bar. Management probably wants as many models as possible for weekends to make up the numbers. Maybe it aims for at least 20 models to project image of a healthy business. Last reason could be that your guy is one of those rare guys who can hold his drink. Jupiter has many high end customers who go just to drink with models. Not easy to find guys who can drink whisky night after night.

It's strange. If your guy is no longer working at Jupiter, why does he have to pay off fee when he appears there again with customer? This was also experienced by @vinapu in his most recent trip. Management seems to believe that their models are exclusive to them! 🤣 It was considerate of your guy to ask you to save your money. Personally speaking, I feel that the working conditions for Jupiter models are much better than other bars. They only work from 10pm to 1am. Freshboys working hours are 7.30pm to 1am. Good Boys working hours are 8.30pm to 2am.

Bars want to make as much money as possible during high season. I believe during low season, they will close one eye to such special arrangements.

It's now December so prices adjusted for high season. At Jupiter, it was reported by another forum member that entry price has increased from 500 to 600 baht.

Thankfully no! If numbers are changed frequently, then it will be difficult to keep up! Numbers at bars change whenever the guys go away for weeks back to home country. Their numbers likely to be given to new guys who want to work. Bars will only keep numbers for certain guys. These guys are typically the long timers and they have "earned" their right to a certain number. Of course the guys themselves can request for change of numbers e.g. lucky numbers. Number 13 at Freshboys is usually vacant. It's only taken by a new guy or a guy returning to work after some time and because no other numbers available. (Freshboys tries to cap the numbers at 40). Once another number is available, guys will swap out of number 13.

Yes. I believe the misunderstanding came about because we took things for granted and made wrong assumptions about each other. I have been lucky that we share common interests. If not, we probably wouldn't be together.

Customer is probably well known and went to Freshboys before but decided to go to Hot Male instead that night.
