  2. Sadly it looks like the drug Violence in Rio has spilled over into the better areas. Hostages were held at the Intercontinental Hotel. Oz, isn't that the hotel you like there? http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-world/20100821/INTERNATIONAL-US-BRAZIL-VIOLENCE/
  3. I must admit there is much about this situation I do not understand. I believe religious freedom is a huge part of what this country was founded on. The reason many came here in the first place. With that said, is there a certain reason why they chose this location? Most churches decide to build because of the location of their congregation. Is there a large Muslim population in lower Manhattan? Even churches have to meet zoning laws. We had one of those Mega-Churches (Christian) that had to jump thru many hoops to be built here in my city. They even had to adhere to parking requirements required by zoning and had to make public road changes at the church's expense. I will say I am surprised by the reaction of the people of New York and more so now that it has become a national issue for some reason. Another thing, how politically stupid can President Obama get to get himself involved in this? Now he has his own party on the defensive. Even Harry Reid came out against the Mosque today after Obama mentioned support of the Mosque. It is a close election in Nevada and an issue like this could be just enough to chnage the turnout of Conservatives. With the majority of people opposed to it, according to polls, it sure isn't an issue to get his base worked up. But it sure is getting the Conservative base worked up. Turnout in a mid term election is what always carries so much weight due to it usually having lower turnouts. Just another issue to charge up the Republican base and even the Independents. Smooth move Mr President.... NOT!!! When are we going to concentrate on the Economy!!!!!!!!!
  4. There is a Catholic Church that over looks the site. Should it be torn down?
  5. Not so fast.....Court temporarily blocks California same-sex couples from marrying: http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/08/16/same.sex.marriage/index.html?hpt=T2
  6. It does seem that the USA has become the police dept. for the world over the past several years. One thing many do not remember or did not know was that Bush, in his first campaign for President, actually campaigned against the USA being the world's police dept. Then 9/11 happened and that one event changed everything and shaped and dominated his decisions for the rest of his term. I think causing him to ignore or not focus on this country's other problems. He even tried to get NATO to take over the situation in Afganistan and we see where that has gotten us. A longer war and in deeper than ever. The UN is a complete useless organization it seems to me. Many countries also seem to criticze us for getting involved all over the world and call us a bully. Then when some terrible event or person steps up around the world they look to us first. Even Chavez wanted us to intercede last year in Honduras, when their President was sent out of the country by the military, but yet critcizes us for being a bully in South America. When do we step in is the big question. We ignore much of the African genocide and even watched as Sadam Huessein committed genocide until we decided to go there for other reasons. Why did the world let Hitler go so long and the USA then tried so hard to stay out of that situation until Pearl Harbor forced us in? Do we ignore North Korea, Iran, Yemen, and countless other situations around the world? Why do we care when no one else seems to? They all look to us to do somthing. Sometimes I think it would be nice if the USA went into isolation, but I realize that would not be possible or practical.
  7. Towny, I've seen the same female conduct also over the years and could not agree with you more. That is one reason why I always enjoyed the strip clubs of Montreal so much. Ladies only allowed on lady's night and I tried to steer clear of any Club there on their Lady's Night. I have, more than once, walked out of Clubs for the same reasons as you. I've also stopped tipping certain male dancers for giving to females free what I was expected to tip for. One dancer on a certain night that had gotten my attention and money even asked me why I had stopped tipping him when he again tried to get my attention. You should have seen his face when I told him to go back and play with the females he was so fond of that didn't tip. You could have picked his jaw up off the floor.

    Pat Tillman

Sadly, friendly fire is not a new thing in a WAR and Pat Tillman is not the only one to have died from such a tragic accident in this war. I feel for the families of not just those who die from Friendly Fire, but also for the families of all that have died and for those that have been permanently maimed. I also feel for those soldiers that have, by accident, killed one of their fellow soldiers by accident. It surely is a huge burden to bear.
  9. My thoughts exactly..... Wow! Just wow....
  10. Update, he gets to keep his Police Certification: http://www.southfloridagaynews.com/news/sfgnow/132-local/1949-state-commission-rules-verdugo-may-retain-law-enforcement-certificate.html
  11. Found this commentary on SI's website. I think it hits the nail on the head pretty good: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/jeff_pearlman/08/13/brent.bowers/
  12. I was surprised the only place I had heard of this incident was on a Fox News Sports Link commentary: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/gay-umpires-ordeal-shows-sad-state-of-sports-081310 Here's another link to the story I found by googling: http://www.queerty.com/calling-gay-umpire-fing-faggot-wont-get-him-to-side-with-edmonton-capitals-manager-brent-bowers-20100807/
  13. I live in a metro area of about 1 million and all the local bookstores got bought out by Borders or Barnes and Noble a few years ago, except for one very small store and it's selection is limited. But I still stop there on occasion. Amazon actually ships from warehouses in my state, employing several hundred people here. They took over warehouses vacated when Foot of the Loom moved production out of the country. I have no idea as to the wages they pay nor their benefits.
  14. Looks like Germany is doing much better than we are. What are we doing so wrong? See BBC article: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-10962017
  15. It was reported today that India is also jumping on the Blackberry ban. Modern means of communication is starting to scare alot of countries it seems.
  16. Well I actually had to attend a family reunion in the Country on Sunday. So I thought I might actually stockup on a few things and shop at the country store, especially since my uncle owns the place. But guess what? It's closed on Sunday's!!!!
  17. Do you really know anything about Wasilla Alaska to know whether she did a good job or not? Or does your hate for her over shadow everything else?
  18. It is my understanding that Target donated to a group named MN forward. A group that is meant to advance business issue candidates. The group gave money to a Republican that is pro business that also has some anti-gay leanings. But the group so far has given money to 3 Democrats and 3 Republicans. Several other Minnesota businesses also gave money to the group. Target has apologized for the donation going to the candidate in question. But when ever you donate to any group, whether a business group such as this, a Union, a PAC, etc.. you really never know who your donation will end up supporting. So now if I'm not supposed to shop at Target or Walmart, where do I shop? I also understand Target has been a big sponsor of past Gay Pride events. Do you forget about that now?
  19. Part of the problem is that conservatives out number Liberals by almost 2 to 1. Take a look at the lastest Gallup polls on this: http://www.gallup.com/poll/120857/conservatives-single-largest-ideological-group.aspx People wonder why Fox News does so good? That is easy, they have a Conservative lean that covers 40% of the population plus many of the 35% of the Moderates in the country. MSNBC constantly gets beat in the ratings because they are playing to just 20% of the population.
  20. The ultimate stimulas program ?
  21. Is that a "loaded" question?
  22. Even though she didn't get as many votes as the past Supreme Court nominee, it seemed the debate on her was a little more subdued than past nominees. She also got more Republican votes than Alito got Democrat votes on his nomination. Appointtees are always a roll of the dice, but things should get really interesting with the cases that should hit the court within the next few years: Gay Marriage Mandatory purchase of Health insurance required by the Health Care Bill Arizona immigration law When ever I think of Supreme Court nominees I always think of what Eisenhower was supposed to have said. When asked if he ever made a mistake as President he answered: "Yes and most of them sit on the Supreme Court."
  23. Hotty!!!
  24. Viagra and Cialis?
  25. LOL, yeah I think she finally figured that out. Actually I think Levi's 15 minutes of fame had faded so he used the Palin girl again to try to get another 15 minutes. Looks like it worked, we're talking about it. What is so sad is that she took him back so fast when he proposed marriage again, she probably actually loves him. High School sweetheart and first love.
