After some tinkering I finally managed to make it work and I am posting the solution in case others might find it useful. 
 
You need to have your SIM card (I use a hk based eSIM) AND a vpn that can tunnel your traffic to the country in which the sim card is registered. 
 
Signup via sms code this way works. Afterwards turn off the vpn so you are using Thai internet and I can then find all the shops via their official @ line ids. 
 
I added the usual suspects (thanks Mac for the diligent work) so am good to go.

Whilst taikonaut asked about KTV bars and WeChat groups, it would be super useful if terper could also describe what the scene is (if any) regarding paid sex venues such as massage parlours and saunas with moneyboys in attendance, in your city where you live. China is a huge country and we will bear in mind that different cities will have different scenes when it comes to physical spaces, not least because of local government controls and market size.
My own long-ago experience with freelance moneyboys in China is that they can get pretty rough over money - something I have not personally experienced in any other Asian country, but something similar to the stories posted about a certain Vietnamese boy from Screw/Good Boy and other stories posted now and then in the Latin America forums. It depends on many circumstances. In general, they would ask 200 to 300 for a home visit. If you hire a GP from a website, the fee will probably cover one hour. GPs from the saunas, in my experience, enjoy hanging out for many hours for the same price.

Day 1 
 
The first leg of my flight was pretty uneventful and calm. Once I arrived at Charles de Gaulle I made a beeline to the new Air France lounge that was just finished in fall 2021. It’s beautiful with a curved outer shell design and a two story layout with multiple sections for food and drinks. I took a quick rinse in one of their complimentary shower cabins and got ready for the long flight ahead. 
 
The flight from Paris was okay. The cabin design is pretty outdated in a 2-2-2 configuration and the seat only lets you rest in an angled mode instead of full flat like newer planes. After a quick 11 hour in the air it was time to finally land in Rio.
