Oh I'm definitely willing to improvise. I'm still hoping to find a vet like one of you guys that'll let me tag along while I learn the ropes. But I'm sure within a week or so I'll be up on on all the slang and strategy. This trip was originally more for seeing if this part of the world is someplace I'd like to semi-retire to for a couple years. I knew there was this scene, but it wasn't the motive for the trip like my trips to Montreal, South America, Europe or Ft Lauderdale usually are. But yeah I'm excited to dive in and have some fun next week. I've been reading countless trip reports and am somehow excited for my first late night meal at Foodland.

Ahh good to know. I guess I'm used to the American strip club model... it's actually usually enjoyable to spend time inside... well usually.

My head is spinning at all these various options. The offing bars, the massage spots. I'd seen the term "host bar" a few times, but still am not sure if I quite grasp it. Are host bars kind of like American strip clubs where you go to a VIP room that's private vs offing? From what I read, host bars don't generally offer the full on experience... which I'm ok with. Sounds like they might be my kind of place.

Again, that is the plan. Never said I'm going to camp out at the same 1 or 2 every night of the trip. I just want to start off with the biggest bang for the buck. So was looking specifically for the best place to start. Sounds like Fresh and Good are going to be my first visits.

Yep as I mentioned, by the time my time is up, I'll for sure have visited them all a few times. I'm there for almost 2 months (not all in Bangkok). I just am looking for this first weekend to be my primo choices for twinks n' twunks so that's why I wanted the intel on which spots are most geared to my tastes. Most here are muscle lovers. I like the Ryan Phillippe in Cruel Intentions build. As for blond hair and blue eyes, yeah I'm gonna be SOL there.

Getting ready for my first visit next week in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Ko Samui. All three I'm staying in Airbnb's always prefer it that way. I know there are hotel review sites, but I do like the review system on Airbnb. It's pretty reliable.

Makes sense. But yeah besides the points I mentioned, the other reason I like Airbnbs is the ratings system is pretty reliable once a place has a dozen or so reviews. Of the hundreds of times I've used an Airbnb, I think I've only regretted it twice. I originally had an Airbnb just across the river until I read a lot of yours and others posts... so I relocated to one at this location:

Good to know. Rookie checking in again. I noticed you guys often discuss hotels but I rarely see a mention of Airbnb's. For international travel, I much prefer Airbnb's for a bunch of reasons but mainly cost, location and getting a more authentic vibe for the city I'm visiting. Are there big drawbacks to Airbnb's in Thailand?

I don't speak a lick of Thai, but I do a lot of traveling and Google Translate and I are best friends. I'd love to cut out the middle man. And yes DM = direct message. Ha! American guy (you probably figured that out from the name) in his early 50s. Usually into the college age guys from twinks to twunks. Once they become gym rats, I'm usually not interested. Based on what some of you have said about the massage places, I'm pretty vanilla. I usually don't have sex w/ workers, but I like to fool around "soft" stuff I guess. As best I can tell you walk into these places, the mamasan is your liaison between you and the performer you like? You negotiate the price with them if you want to leave with one of them. You have to pay a cover which includes drinks. I've done a lot of reading in these threads but since many of you are familiar with everything, sometimes I have to read between the lines. Fortunately I've got a long stretch to visit, so I'm sure after a few nights I'll have the hang of it. Yeah about 6 or 7 weeks total. Def the longest trip I've ever taken. Asia I've always put off until I could spend that kind of time. Too long to travel for just a week like I normally do. Bangkok is up first so I've been pouring through these threads for the fun spots. After reading I switched my Airbnb to one that's near bars/park. Looking forward to it. But definitely would love to tag along if any of you are in Bangkok, Koh Samui or Chiang Mai. The whole process of how the money works is very foreign to me. Never dealt with mamasans or 'offing" etc. More used to the pay for a private dance or hiring an escort online.

If any are visiting late August or September, my first visit is coming up and I'd love to have a Thai veteran to show me around. Bangkok to start. Visits to Chiang Mai and Koh Samui next... then returning to Bangkok again in early October for my last couple weeks.

Ahhh solid logic. Was wondering if the Pattaya scene just disappears completely during the week. Glad that's not the case. As for not paying... I prefer to just pay these days... I do fairly well for a dude my age without hitting the ATM. But when I'm traveling and enjoying the scene, I like to keep it simple and pay for my play. Last couple trips (not to Asia) I met a couple cute younger guys I liked who were into older guys... but then I get all locked up in boyfriend mode. So anyway... this is helpful thanks. I'll probably go that route... head over for a midweek trip to Pattaya.

My first Thailand visit is coming up. I'll be spending about a month in Bangkok in September. Curious which days of the week I should escape to Pattaya? I'd imagine weekends are the prime time for both. And if that's the case, I'd probably find more fun in Bangkok... but I'm thinking a midweek visit to Pattaya would be dull? So I'm stumped. Any thoughts on how I should break it down?

Only have experience with a couple as well. If you like the wild and wacky themed rooms, Las Palmas is fun. But for quick and easy clean rooms on the cheap, I like Temptation. Kind of prefer Temptation.

$100 US an hour is definitely high. The WhatsApp number could be a factor, but I'd imagine when I attempt Spanish using Google Translate, they sniff that out too. I'm just always polite and say "oh ok, sorry, my range is usually (insert your comfortable numbers) but thank you"... they'll usually change their tune.
