Thailand does not impose a 72% tariff rate on all goods imported from the US. I believe the actual number is in the single digits. I believe that Trump used trade imbalance as the proxy for determining what tariff to impose. A 72% trade imbalance makes perfect sense. The average Thai cannot afford to buy most of the products that the US exports. This is why the tariff rates that Trump came up with are disproportionately high with regard to low income countries.

Interesting. I stand corrected. I just checked the UK.gov website and they say that you do not need it if transiting and will not go through UK border customs. They recommend checking with your airline to be sure that you will not be going through customs/border control.

My guide in Thailand years ago told us that the best way to deal with hawkers of various kinds is to say nothing. Just smile and shake your head to indicate no and move on. It worked quite well. It is pleasant without ever engaging. Never been to Pattaya, but worked well enough on ladyboys in Bangkok

@floridarob I agree with the others. Get the eye symptoms checked out as soon as possible. TIAs are a warning sign for a possible stroke and some only involve vision. You could also have a retinal problem. Wishing you well.

I have found that if your account is registered with a North American number, you cannot add Line accounts by phone number. But you can add Line accounts with @ and with the QR code. You can also call with in the app, using their phone number. When I originally set up my Linde account, I did so in Thailand, but used my North American phone number. This always sort of worked and sort of didn’t work. I had constant errors. I finally deleted my account and made a new one in North America with my North American number. Since then, no problems except not being able to add people by phone number.

I would think the legendary Vinapu would be capable of bridging this division and reestablishing balance.

The Thai guy who lives paycheck to paycheck regardless of how much he makes or what bills he has is not going to change. The passive aggressive Filipino who smiles as they stick to the script and you get nowhere is not going to change. People very rarely change in fundamental ways, and that includes you and me. Cultures are even harder to change. So we have to accept people how they are. That does not mean that you cannot set boundaries in your relationships, but life is too short to be trying to change people.

This investigation could result in different questions being asked. For example, flying in an altitude less than 200 feet in a black hawk helicopter, which would have a certain height which would mean that your landing gear are probably within less than 150 feet of the ground. If you’re complying with this limit, it might be too low particularly at night. It also may be a difficult altitude to maintain. So, if the altitude limitation and the path present their own problems, one could describe this accident as just something waiting to happen. In which case the answer might be that there should be more separation both in time and space between helicopter, traffic and jet traffic. These are the sorts of questions that come up when you are trying to prevent future accidents rather than just trying to assign blame for a particular accident on somebody in particular. The best way to prevent future accidents is through systemic changes that make it harder for a mistake to be made. Just insisting that everyone do better usually results in the same thing happening again and again.
