For more than 200 years the US Supreme Court has held that the Second Amendment applied to State Militias. They literally scoffed at the idea that it applied to individuals. Then Scalia and his pals completely changed the interpretation in line with decades of lobbying by the NRA. I find it strange that the amendment calls for a well regulated militia, but Scalia and Co think that no such regulations should be applied to any individual who wants to go around using a weapon of war.

As I get older, I catch myself thinking of people in their 30’s as kids. They are full grown adults with some of them having kids of their own. I guess it is inevitable.

I understand the desire to buy a condo so you have a place of your own. But I would rent. I think that is especially important early on due to not knowing what you don’t know about a place. But it is also something that you can walk away from if you need to. Like vinapu, as much as I have enjoyed Thailand, I would not want to live there.

They are still on my radar. If I got a price that made sense to me, I would fly them. I think it would only make sense if my destination (or one of my destinations) was Japan, since there is no discount for the second flight (USA-NRT-BKK for example).

When you add in a suitcase and carryon/backpack, it isn’t all that much less than other carriers. It used to be very cheap, but their prices have climbed. Also, if you fly US to BKK, the two trips (which have to be bought separately ) are roughly the same as the best deals on JAL or their Taiwanese competitors. I love the concept, because what I really want is the lay flat bed, but not if the nickel and diming comes out the same in the end

From a justice point of view, murder suicides have always been frustrating.

I am a pilot. Small single engine only.

In many ways, the preliminary findings are reassuring with regard to a safety problem with the 787. This seems most likely to be a mass murder suicide, or less likely an accident. The German Wings pilot flew into a mountain and killed everyone. But when you are learning to fly, you learn very quickly that a crash on take off is usually a fatal event. Whereas crashes on landing, especially in small planes, tend to have lots of damage to the plane, but fewer fatalities. They teach you this, because everyone is so afraid of landing with the ground coming up to meet you. But the take off is more dangerous and you need to respect the take off, be on your game and following your checklists and have a plan if you lose an engine.
