Spending a month in where I feel the the most stunning scenery in the world exists . This trip has nothing to do with gay things but for those of you who enjoy travel, you need to make this trip sometime in your life.

 

At the present the exchange rate is fabulous for $US , not sure about other currencies as the Rand is weak.

 

This is my 3rd trip to South Africa and I have included a few photos from the first 2 days. The first 2 photos are from the balcony of our apartment and the rest just driving around. The restaurant photo is the inside of a small breakfast place in the Wine Region of Stellenbosch Innovative breakfast selections at ridiculously low prices even compared to Thailand and of course far superior quality of Western Breakfast familiar items.

 

If anyone shows an interest, I will continue to post photos or just let it die. I will not be posting in the photo shoots thread for the next month.

A trip to Africa\South Africa is on my "bucket list" thanks for your post.

Likewise post away please. I spent a lovely month travelling around Cape town, Stellenbosch and the Knysna areas and throughly enjoyed it and fully intend to go back and explore some more as like you said South Africa was stunning.

Just got back from Table Mountain. Just spectacular for my 3rd time.

 

The island is Robben where Mandela spent much of his life and a photo of the Big Soccar Statium.

Two years ago, bf and I travelled to Cape Town for our wedding. We stayed at the Purple House and the hosts (a gay couple from the Netherlands) were absolutely marvelous and even served as our witnesses. The wedding was on their roof top with Table Mountain as the backdrop. The trip was memorable as was the wedding.

 

Highly recommend a trip. A pure joy and the people are some of the friendliest in the world.

One of your less brilliant comments Vinapu. Would be the same as saying not to visit Chicago because it has the highest murder rate in the USA!

In fact the overwhelming % of murders occur between family and friends . Also most occur in only a few police precincts and tourists feel little impact.

 

The impact of many fleeing their countries for a better life has led to an increase in poverty which always results in increases in crime but again certainly no more effect on tourists then most countries.

Table Mountain is pretty spectacular but other than that I find Cape Town a fairly depressing city with a high and increasing crime rate. I have been fortunate enough to travel to many cities around the world and Cape Town certainly wouldn't be anywhere close to featuring in the top 10.

I have little interest in the city of Cape Town. That is where you fly to and after that you venture out to the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Kruger National Park.

 

If you never did that then you wasted your time. I have been all over the world and the scenic coastal beauty of South Africa as well as the Wine Regions are as spectacular as any place you could ever visit and the people are wonderful. In 4 days I have already met people visiting from Australia, NewZealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Austria and the USA and not a single one has a negative thing to say and most have made multiple trips , they love it so much.

Started out today with some light rain but sun came out around noon and decided to drive around a few of the fishing villages. The colored little houses were used 100 years ago for bathers to change and they have been re- painted to the original colors .

 

The train line runs right along the sea , so I guess the railroads bought up land before waterfront was considered so valuable even in smaller fishing villages . Along the way got 1 shot of a whale playing with his tail up. Unfortunately he did not cooperate and breech completely out of the water. The seals climb right up the steps and come right up to you in these fishing villages where they are used to getting fish from the boats. Surfing is big in this area and cute surfer boys are everywhere.

Great photos. I really like those little beach chalets I can remember similar in seaside places in the UK in the 1950's as a kid on holiday.

I understand that Thais do not need a visa to visit South Africa.

Yes, it's true, Thais don't need a visa to travel to South Africa for 30 days.

With you I never know if you are being facetious?? The murders in Chicago are 95% gang related and in areas a tourist would never venture. Thus anyone who did not visit Chicago because of crime statistics would be missing one of the great cities of the USA.

 

There as in most parts of the world I would be more worried about getting blown up by Islamist Extremists or have my plane blown up. Not interested in living in a cave so just follow certain precautions and figure the odds are with you anywhere you travel.

Vinapu I assume you cancelled your next trip to Thailand after reading articles like this?
