joizy Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Since we’re sharing stories of when we were in similar situations, this happened to me in Santo Domingo. I was sitting on an outside terrace of a hotel in the Zona Colonial (I forget the name and am not sure if it is still there). They had a policy of charging for visitors and it wasn’t cheap. A guy approached me, seemed quite nervous and said he wanted to fuck me. He also had this weird story about his ID. It was very complicated. That should have been my red flag. I told him he needed ID to come up to my room. He said he knew a place we could go and told me the price. He made no mention of me paying him. Of course, I should have known. I went up to my room and got some cash. I don’t remember the price, so please don’t get stuck on this number, but let’s say it was 250 pesos for the room. I grabbed 500. (This number could be totally wrong, but this happened years ago and it’s been a while since I’ve been to the DR, so I forget prices of things). I didn’t bring anything else with me. We went to this place near the entrance of El Conde and got a room. When we got there, I paid. I was supposed to get half back in change. He grabbed it from the woman and we went to the room. I was okay with that, even though it was not the “deal” I thought we had. He fucked me like crazy. It was actually very hot. When we finished, he asked me how much I was going to pay him. I told him he never mentioned money and he had already taken my money. He said he wanted more - some crazy number like $100, or maybe even more. I said I had to go back to my room. We walked down El Conde. My mouth was dry and I was freaking out. We passed a police box and I thought of approaching them, but wasn’t sure how they would respond. When we got to my hotel, he had to wait outside because he “didn’t have ID”. I went up to my room and called the front desk and told them what was going on. A little later, I went downstairs and he wasn’t there. I was totally shook from the experience. It was a close call. Since then, when I have gone back to the DR, I’ve stayed in a hotel that requires ID. When they say they don’t have ID, it is definitely a red flag. bkkmfj2648 and vinapu 2 Quote

It sounds like you had a hot, fun time and knew you were engaging in the trade...but then you won't slip him a Benjamin? I would have taken care of him and allowed him to take care of me again...and again. 😛 Quote
Mavica Posted May 28 Posted May 28 Quote Yes, there were red flags, but it’s very easy to miss them when you are being hit on constantly by really hot guys who would otherwise ignore you at home. No judgement on “James”. This could have been any of us. Yes, this discussion is a good reminder to us all that we're oftentimes vulnerable to harm and fraud. I've never been beaten and robbed in this manner, but I have been drugged and robbed of money, electronics, clothing ... and awoke (gratefully) 18 hours later ... in Mexico. It's been 30 years since, though, but a friend of mine in Mexico was similarly drugged ... and died from that ... and another was drugged, robbed and roughed up a bit and survived the ordeal. The drugs in each of these incidents were placed in beverages left unattended on a bar or restaurant table. Yes, I hope this discussion is read widely not just because the incident occurred in Colombia, but because it happens in the lives of gay men ... worldwide. It's not just the newbies who are taken advantage of; some of us who think we're so experienced fall prey, too. Thank you! joizy 1 Quote

In the 1990s in the same Soi as Harry's Bar there was a bar with a sign out front "Beer, Bed & Boy $5" and another upstairs of Harry's, I think it was the Garden Bar ... each had, among others ... 16, 17 y.o. for hook-ups. Neither Harry's nor Garden Bar were host / Mamasan bars. Quote

For South America, the only reason was sightseeing. I had never been before, knew no-one and spoke hardly any Portuguese or Spanish. 9 cities/locations and 16 flights over a month (including 4 getting there and back) and each day was packed with activity. No time for anything else - except in Cuzco which was a complete although very pleasant surprise! Quote

I spent a fabulous month travelling around four South American countries and sex was rarely on my mind. It was a fabulous trip and I saw so many natural wonders. Dear @PeterRS, Your condescending question, framed as a mere curiosity, carries an unmistakable whiff of superiority, as if the pursuit of physical intimacy while traveling is somehow beneath the refined appreciation of culture you so clearly pride yourself on. It’s a tired trope, implying that those who acknowledge sex as part of their human experience are somehow less enlightened or incapable of savoring the world’s deeper offerings. This condescension, cloaked in intellectualism, betrays a rather narrow view—one that dismisses the complexity of human connection in favor of a self-congratulatory asceticism. Also, you forget the purpose of my trip reports (Cebu and now Da Nang) - which is to determine if an elderly gay retiree can live comfortably in either of these 2 cities - where the comparator is with Jomtien - where I reside as a full time retiree. Consequently, part of my retiree life includes elements of occasional sex in Jomtien, and as well as in Cebu, and now Da Nang. I took the time to reread all of my 2 trip reports and I have the following statistics to share with you to help you answer your haughty and insulting question: I was in Cebu for 62 days - of which on 16 distinct days I had "sex" - which for me is often a sensual massage with happy ending. That equates to 26% of the time that I was residing in Cebu, I am now in Da Nang for 34 days - of which on 10 distinct days I had "sex" - which for me is often a sensual massage with happy ending. That equates to 29% of the time that I am residing in Da Nang. So, what was I doing during the non sex days? I was enjoying the local culture and as you say, "natural wonders". It was your choice when you went on your South American tour to not have sex. For myself, I don't like these types of limitations - as it is often sex with the locals of a country that you are visiting that allow you to have genuine connections and experiences with the local community. I close by asking you to STOP making condescending remarks towards my person in this forum!!! vinapu 1 Quote

Please be 100% assured that I absolutely did not intend to make any condescending comment in that post which has clearly hurt you. You, as with each member here, are entirely entitled to do what you wish when it comes to travelling. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of your posts and I think you may have noted that to almost all of them I have given a 'like'. My error for which i apologise completely and one that I much regret is that at the start of my reply I had hastily copied your post without considering its full implication. If I may briefly explain, since the subject of the thread had been basically about sex in South America and you had said you would not consider going due to the dangers already expressed by others when occasionally meeting up with locals, I merely - and I did start the post by writing "merely out of curiosity" - wanted to compare my own experience where sometimes I travel with sex in mind - as I expect will be the case in Taipei this week-end - but at others, especially when I went to South America and aware of the possible dangers, my sole purpose was to enjoy its many natural wonders. Sex was never on my mind in the entire year it took to plan that trip. But my comments were ill-thought through and clearly hurt you. For this i cannot apologise enough. It may be just as well that I will be away for 5 days enjoying my usual adventures in Taiwan which I have detailed in other threads. I will therefore be making no posts and certainly wish to avoid the possibility of adding insult to injury. Please keep posting. I renew my apologies. I thank you. vinapu, Lucky and bkkmfj2648 3 Quote

Members Riobard Posted May 28 Members Posted May 28 The point about controlled libido and why it’s vital to assiduously log your sexual activity and have it legally notarized is that if you are visiting Brazil and you have sex in Brazil other than on sexta-feira you could be subject to a ‘walk of atonement’, thrown in prison, or worse. macdaddi 1 Quote
