Wednesday evening I sent an email to Re:Born to schedule a session for today (Saturday) with a guy I saw back in February. I had the best time with him and truly believed him when he told me he loved me, so I wanted to see him again to discuss our marriage plans.

I tried to be as clear as possible in my email. I gave them the date, time, length of session, preferred provider and two choices for the room - 1st choice the club room, 2nd choice the gym room.

They replied to my email on Thursday morning.

Even though Sakaki was listed as being available from 14:00, which is the time I requested, they wrote back to say he was not available until 14:30 because of work.

I replied that was fine or I could do 15:00 if he needed more time.

Again, I said, “I am confirming.” And asked for the price.

And this is where things went left.

So in response to my question about the price, they sent a new price list, which was basically the same except now there was an additional room fee (the previous price list included the room fee) 100 minutes massage course was 18,000 yen. 100 minutes escort course was 18,000 yen, plus 3,000 for the room for a total of 21,00.

Because I was exhausted by the train dilemma at this point, and I was hungry, and I felt like I’d been very clear up front about what I wanted, I got frustrated and said “Just give me the 70 minute massage course at Higashi-Nakano” I told them I was familiar with the location.

I had not made the connection between the change of room and the possibility that it would be a different location. Stay tuned.

The next morning when I woke up, I re-read the emails and was confused, so I asked about the pricing. Why was it 18,000 plus 3,000 when they had previously told me the room fee was included? 

Long story short - as a non-resident of Japan, you pay 1,000 yen for a private room, but that doesn’t include an actual room. The club room is an extra 1,000 (2,000 total), the gym room is an extra 2,000 (3,000 total) and the VIP room in Shinjuku is an extra 3,000 (4,000 total)  - all in addition to the price listed for the course (which on Re:Born is just one list of prices - no mention of escort services).

I was really ready to cancel at this point, but Sakaki said he loved me and he was waiting for me.

Finally, I confirmed, 14:30 at Higashi-Nakano with Sakaki for 70 minutes at 15,000 yen.

I set off today to meet my love.

Higashi-Nakano is one stop from Okubo, where I’m staying, so I arrived very quickly. I wasn’t paying attention when I left the train and found myself at the opposite exit. I took the West exit, but the directions said East exit. To make matters worse, typhoon force winds and rain had moved in and my wind-resistant umbrella from Family Mart just gave up. Google Maps was not helping me find where I wanted to go and it was getting close to 2:30. 

I walked along the tracks and fortunately found the East exit. I found the building (per the directions) and returned to the exact same spot I had been last time (which was the club room - I still had not realized it was a different location). I rang the bell and no one answered. I emailed them and told them I was there. They responded that they were waiting for me at the Higashi-Nakano Park Tower room 16XX.

Then it hit me. Yeah, different room would be in a different location, but they had never sent me the location. I had very careful directions from Higashi-Nakano station that they’d sent me, but they had sent them before they told me the club room wasn’t available.

I asked for the correct directions. The rain, fortunately had subsided because my umbrella was just a shell of its former self.

I followed their directions which took me back to where I had initially been with my “mistake” - turns out the gods had been guiding me to the correct location without me knowing it.

I wrote back and told them that this was their mistake and I wanted the time to start from 15:00. They didn’t respond. I’d see what Sakaki had to say.

Finally, I found the building - a very fancy high rise with a guard behind a window and an intercom system. I pressed the number of the room and was let into a first set of doors. Then I had to do the same thing again and may have missed my opportunity to enter (because someone was also leaving) so I had to do it again.

By the time I reached the room I was frustrated and extremely stressed.
