Is Amazon Prime Worth the Subscription Price?

I am considering whether to drop Amazon Prime.  Currently the price is $139/year (US).  I have some time to decide.

I appreciate the convenience but don't necessarily require it. 

The Prime Video content is not that great, IMO.

Has anyone dropped Amazon Prime?  Do you miss it?

Or, if you plan to keep your subscription, what do you value about Prime?

I canceled my subscription after Bezos backed Conmandante Cankles and helped usher fascism into our country. I don't miss it. I limit my Amazon purchases now and try instead to get what I need locally, but when I do order something from Amazon, I order several things so I get free shipping. It's not as convenient as getting free overnight shipping on just about everything, but it also has saved me from buying so much crap I don't need and helps me to support local businesses. I am definitely saving money by not having it.

I think the main benefit of Amazon Prime (for me, at least) is the free next-day (or sometimes 2-day) shipping with all orders. I order most things on Amazon these days, other than groceries, which I like to inspect myself. Even then, it's irritating when I go to the grocery store and they're out of their most popular items, such as whole wheat sandwich buns or chive cream cheese, and sometimes I just order even my groceries on Amazon Prime, though one obviously can leave those outside for too long. There are a few shows I watch on Amazon Prime, such as Gen V (which stars a bunch of hunks such as Patrick Schwarzenegger), the Rainmaker (which stars hunky Milo Callaghan as a sexy lawyer), and Fallout (though the 2nd season took 1.5 years to come out--not until this December). I get easily more than the $11/month in free shipping, and the shows are extra as far as I'm concerned.

I think I will cancel my subscription when it comes up for renewal.  When I was teaching full time, I ordered items for my classroom quite often.  It was very convenient and usually cheaper.  However, now that I am retired I do not really order that much.  It wasn't necessary that what I have ordered recently arrives in the next day or two.  I certainly was able to wait without any issue.  I cannot even remember the last time I watched anything on Prime Video.  I do not spend a lot of time watching television to begin with, so Prime Video isn't something I would miss at all.  I, too, am of the mind that I don't want to support Bezos, his politics, and his censorship at the Washington Post, especially in recent years.  I also prefer to shop local these days.

My last Amazon order never arrived.  They refunded me, but I had to find a local place to buy it.

This has happened to me a few times over the years, Amazon orders not delivered.

In my case, the Website claimed the order shipped, but later stated my order was delayed and that I could request a refund if not delivered after a number of days.🤷‍♂️

In Los Angeles, at least, deliveries are quite reliable. Amazon drivers have the code to my front garden gate, so they can leave stuff at my doorstep with minimal risk of porch pirates snatching the package. Most deliveries are overnight, and most of the rest are in 2 days. Occasionally they even have same-day delivery. Late deliveries happen, but are rare--I'd say less than 10%.

I find Amazon Prime very useful. I am another of those who vowed not to use Amazon due to their political background,  and working practices, but I was seduced by the prices, ease of delivery,  and just plain convenience.  I'm not proud of myself, I know all about local suppliers etc, but ordering a wide range of items, for delivery  the next day, items i sometimes have no idea where to shop, is just so useful.  If I know where to buy something,  food, for example,  i do not use Prime. I also like choosing the food I am going to eat. I very rarely order a takeaway  meal, maybe once in 3 months. Though I live on my own, I prefer to cook. I patronise my local chemist, and book shop, for example, but I still find Prime very useful, for a wide range of products,  often very cheap. Also, with Prime you get free returns, very helpful. I found a pair of golf shoes, well known make, today, really cheap. If no good, or don't fit, I can return them for free. So, sadly, I think Prime well worth while.

I have an account on Amazon but don't even know what Amazon Prime is. Last time I bought something on Amazon was Christmas  2021 and item was at my door next day morning, still holiday where I live. I though it's gross to make people working on holidays when not necessary and i did not use it ever since

A little amazon anecdote and perhaps why I still use them. Years ago I met online a dear friend in Taipei when he was a room service waiter at the Okura Hotel. I often took him for dinner at one of my favourite little restaurants, Whinos Bar & Kitchen. He told me his ambition was to become a pastry chef.  One year just before he left to spend a year studying at the most prestigious pastry establishment in France, I bought him a book from amazon illustrating pastry creations from various parts of the world. It was large and expensive at around £55, but I wanted him to have it. He was thrilled.

Four years later I ordered a simple paperback on amazon which was sent by one of their third party suppliers and cost around £6.50. It came in the flimsiest of plastic packing and I was pissed off that the corners were a bit dented. So I complained. I was told my purchase price would be refunded. Blow me when an amount of £55 was refunded to my credit card account! Someone at amazon had got their knickers in a twist!
