I've been going to Thailand every year since 2012. There were two years I even went twice. I know, I can't quite match some other forum members here in that respect. Like @vinapu, who suddenly shows up unannounced in Bangkok about every two months (I like to exaggerate). But I'd still call myself a seasoned Thailand-goer. For the first two years, I was amazed and disbelieving by the shows full of nudity and sex, and the ease with which you could select and "buy" boys to go with you via a number tag on their underwear. But those days are long gone. You don't surprise or shock me that easily anymore. I also think the shows have become less explicit in general. Of course, there are still plenty of "big dicks" on parade during showtime. But... I don't encounter a nude underwater show or the acrobatic fuck scenes where the boys hang in rings live on stage in the trapege anymore. But I still enjoy visiting different boy bars and looking for the nicest, most handsome guy who's also into the things you're looking for.

In short: I'm back in Thailand! First a week in Bangkok, then a week in Pattaya, and then another week in Bangkok. I'm going to try to write an interesting trip report

ARRIVAL

I've been flying business class on my outbound journey for years. It's quite a long journey from Europe, and I love arriving in Thailand refreshed. This way, I can immediately dive into the sodomy that is Patpong, full of energy. I also find that by flying business class, the holiday begins during the trip instead of only when you arrive at your destination. Another advantage: you can use priority lane at immigration. After all, the lines at passport control can sometimes be very crowded.

While boarding my 2nd flight/leg in Doha, I spotted a well-dressed, well-built guy. The kind you know right away is gay. A shirt that was way, way, way too tight around his muscular torso. But I did have something delicious to look at and fantasize about. And who did I meet on Grindr hours later after arriving? Of course... This guy. Haha. I chatted with him for a bit and admitted to him that I find him very attractive. But he's attracted to everything I'm not (younger, muscular, etc.), so unfortunately, nothing came out of it. But...  It's a small gay world.

Just before leaving, I realized I'd made a mistake in the booking dates for my first hotel in Bangkok. As a result, I had a hotel for nights 2 and 3, but hadn't yet booked the first night. The last-minute prices for the luxurious Meridian Hotel, where I'd treated myself to two nights to kick off my vacation, were very high. So I decided to look for a cheaper option in Silom for one night and then move to the Meridian Hotel on day two. I found a very good deal on booking.com for Squirrel House, a relatively new hotel in the building that used to house the BBB Inn. I often prefer newer hotels. They still look fresh, are often clean, and have a modern, bright interior. I remember several other forum members having stayed there as well. See:

I found old photos of the hotel on Google Maps when it was still the BBB Inn. It's funny to see that they advertised the hotel back then with a photo of a staff member lying on a hotel bed. I wonder if any members here ever found a staff member lying on their bed back then?

The location is, of course, ideal. Within walking distance of all the bars and massage shops in Patpong. At least, within walking distance for most of us. @Olddaddy would definitely take a motorbike taxi... 

I think someone on this forum already mentioned the hotel's lack of an elevator. And of course, lucky me, my room was on the third floor... I had to lug my heavy suitcase up the stairs. The room is very basic. The bed is a bit too firm for my liking. And it's quite noisy. I hear a lot of noise from others walking in the hallway, from other rooms, and from slamming doors. The renovation of the adjacent (former) Take a Nap Hostel is currently also causing noise pollution. In short: it was nice to try a new hotel, and thankfully it was only for one night, but I won't be booking this one again.

FIRST NIGHT IN BANGKOK

I started the evening with a stroll. Through the various streets lined with boy bars and massage shops... What struck me was how quiet the streets were. Few people were walking around or entering the bars. I was therefore afraid I'd be the only customer if I went in. But when I entered Freshboys just after 10:30, it was surprisingly packed. The show wasn't anything new. It was mostly the same. During the big cock parade, number 31 caught my eye. Gorgeous body, six-pack, nice tattoos (not too many, but distinct. Chinese theme). When the boys went into the audience for tips, I naturally handed number 31 a bill. After I'd thoroughly felt up his body and given him some compliments, of course.
Mamasan told me the guy was "top only." Unfortunately, he didn't match with me because of that. So I decided to try my luck elsewhere. Also, because I wanted to explore a bit on my first night and not pick up a guy at the first bar and end up back in my hotel room early.

As busy as the Freshboys was, it was deserted in Tawan. Two other (young) customers. They both had a Tawan man sitting next to them, hands going everywhere, and at one dark moment, they even gave blowjobs in public... Exciting! But other than that... Most of the guys weren't my type. I'm into muscular guys. But lean muscular ones. And not what was generally "on the menu" in Tawan. There was one guy who did interest me, but he avoided eye contact. And I agree with @vinapuvinapu it usually doesn't result in a good date if you choose a guy who doesn't make eye contact and tries to get your attention or flirt with you. Guys (or men, as many of the Tawan staff fall into that category) are mostly on their phones, uninterested (except for two who did stop by for a chat), and one who seemed to have fallen asleep on the couch. He sat there with his eyes closed...

It actually felt a bit awkward so I tried my best to finish my drink a little faster than normal.

It was a little after midnight now, and I thought I'd try somewhere else. Only to find that everything was closed or about to close. Apparently, on weeknights in Bangkok these days, you have to make sure you've found a guy before midnight... Haha.

Luckily, Grindr offered a solution. A massage therapist offered himself for the reasonable price of 1,500 baht for full service. He was able to walk straight through the reception to my hotel room without any problems once I gave him my room number. He was a nice, spontaneous guy, who was apparently a fan of 7-Eleven, because he had a large tattoo of their logo on the back of his neck. That tattoo looked familiar. But I can't remember the context. Maybe I saw the guy once when he worked at one of the boy bars. Or maybe I even met up with him on one of my previous trips...

I asked him to give me a soft massage because I was experiencing some pain, and he knew exactly the right pressure so it wasn't painful, but you could feel that he was doing something. Satisfied and tired, I crawled into bed after he had also provided the extra service to my satisfaction.

Freshboys is packed with customers most nights. Business is good for bar although the guys don't get as many offs as they would like to. This is because most customers go to Freshboys to watch the show. And #31 is one of the stars of the show! He's a friendly guy and a brilliant pool player. I took him out to play pool with my regular guy once.

I hope @BjornAgain writes about our night out and we stopped in Tawan....I guess I can tell people I'm in my bulking phase too, I was shocked how different it is there compared to when I used to frequent their old place.... also got them to agree to 350 baht drinks for "happy hour", just glad we didn't drop 500 for what we saw.

A friend and I used to do a lot of bar hopping on Sunday evenings. For a time Classic Boys at the end of Soi Twilight was one of our regulars. When they put the price of drinks up, we told the doorman we would not enter unless we were charged the "usual - i.e. old - price. It always worked, at least for the first drink. We never had to pay the increased price!

BANGKOK DAY 2

If I have time in between, I'll write something for my trip report. But it is, of course, a vacation after all. So I won't be updating daily.

The second day in Bangkok. Time to change hotels to the luxurious Le Méridien. I always love the rooms here. Beautiful, spacious bathroom. Wonderful bath to relax in. And the beds are very comfortable. The breakfast buffet is truly extensive. Delicious.

Another forum member also checked into the Méridien the same day I did. While chatting, we discovered we'd been given rooms on the same floor. What are the odds of that in a 24-story hotel? We decided to have a drink together that evening to get acquainted. He was already sitting on the terrace of Shenanigans, and I went to find him there. We had a nice, friendly chat. We then decided to walk around the corner together to check out one of the boy bars. We decided to go to Freshboys. They had a good selection of guys. I'd say there was something for everyone. My eye fell on number 9. He had curly hair, which made him stand out among all the other guys. He seemed very shy. Inquiring revealed he was from Myanmar and was "flexible" gay.

Fellow forum member had left a bit earlier, and after I'd finished my drink, I decided to check out Dreamboy. It used to be my favorite boy bar back in the Soi Twilight days, the first few times I came to Bangkok. Because of its size (two floors) and the many boys. And the spectacular shows. Who doesn't remember the acrobatic sex scenes on stage? And the ladyboys showing off their erect penises? When I entered Dreamboy, I was reminded that it's still the biggest boy bar today. A very large stage. And quite a few boys, even though it was already late. It was funny to see that several mamasans/papasans who were already working in Soi Twilight were still there. I miss staying at Le Meridien. I started staying there after Covid when prices were less than 3000 baht during promotion. But now that prices are back to pre-Covid at 5000 baht, it's out of my budget!

ANOTHER DAY IN BANGKOK

I've never had this much jet lag as I have this year. Does that have something to do with me getting older? Anyway, I took an extra nap during the day today. In between, I also visited the new Central Park. The new shopping mall with office towers and the new Dusit Thani hotel. They must have thought there weren't enough shopping malls in the area yet. But I have to say: the rooftop terrace is impressive. It's a true roof garden. It really makes you feel like you're walking through a park. With a beautiful view of Lumphini Park and the skyline beyond.

There are discussions on this forum about where the best cashew chicken was on the menu. I had one today at Sarica restaurant on Surawong Road. Plenty of cashews, and the chicken was delicious. However, I have reservations about the quality of the sauce/paste they used. Still, I think it tasted good.

That evening, I decided to visit Dreamboy right before the first show. Papasan had advised me the night before to arrive early next time, and he'd find me a good guy. When I arrived, it was already very busy. So busy, in fact, that I got a spot at the side of the stage. This made it difficult to get a good look at the guys, let alone read their number tags. Because of the crowd, Papasan also left me a bit alone, so I couldn't ask them for advice or information about the guys. When he happened to come by, he shined a laser pointer on several guys he knew were gay and also into bottoming. One of them had caught my eye earlier that evening, so I decided to invite them for a drink. He's from Myanmar and didn't speak a word of English. The translation app was struggling. I typed really good, but simple, English sentences. But the translation into Burmese wasn't great, so he didn't quite understand what I wanted to know. I deliberately didn't mention that I am top and wanted him to express his preferences first by asking him. His answer was ultimately clear: he's gay, but he's top. I politely let him know that we wouldn't be a match, which he accepted. He did, however, sit comfortably next to me, finishing his drink and touching each other. I tipped him 200 baht. Papasan came over and asked if I wanted to take the boy. I explained that I didn't, because the boy claims to be top, which contradicts the information Papasan gave me.

Then Papasan and the boy started talking in Thai or Burmese. I didn't understand it at all. But after that, the boy claimed to want to take good care of me and was willing to do anything, including bottoming. But I insisted I wouldn't bring the boy along. A date between us could only end in disappointment. I want a real bottom or versa. And not someone who "just does it" because Papasan says so. It doesn't feel right to do something with a boy he doesn't choose for himself. That's why I was glad I'd had that conversation with him where I'd asked him about his preferences without him knowing what I was looking for. Or what Papasan had told me.

I was a bit annoyed by Papasan's misinformation. Let's just say it cost me valuable time that I could have better spent meeting a guy who's truly bottom or versa. I couldn't bring myself to choose a new guy at Dreamboy either. So I paid and left the bar disappointed. Where to go now? It was already past midnight. And experience from the previous evening had taught me that it's hard to find a guy anywhere then, as closing time is approaching. But... Then I saw a sign that Goodboyz had a show at 1 a.m. So I went in...

I arrived in boy heaven. There were so many boys. So many. And something for every taste. I even saw quite a few who piqued my interest. And importantly: the atmosphere was great. I felt welcome. Friendly mamasan. Boys who smiled at me and asking for attention, without being too pushy for drinks or tips. I even managed to chat with a boy who had spontaneously sat next to me for a while before he asked if I wanted to buy them a drink. And I did want to buy him a drink. Because he was definitely my type. He spoke reasonable English. That was a plus. At the same time, there was another attractive boy further down who also kept making eye contact. Both boys from Vietnam. And before I knew it, I was sitting with a boy on either side of me, drinks for them, and hands going everywhere, both theirs and mine. The setup at Goodboyz allows for this. The way the seating is arranged and the fact that it's a bit darker makes it a bit more intimate and private.

Why choose between two cute guys when they're both willing to go with you? Luckily, the Méridien has big beds. The guys didn't do anything together in the hotel room, by the way. Their focus was entirely on me. But I'm not complaining, of course. I wouldn't call it a real threesome this way, either. But it was a special experience. The first time I've brought two guys from the bar back to the hotel.

I'm afraid I had to pay the normal fee of 500baht for my drink. I see it as my contribution to the local gay community because indeed what I deed see there was not worth that 500baht. If you compare that for what show you see in Jupiter for the same 500baht for first drink... I would choose Jupiter a million times over Tawan nowadays.

They probably spoke Thai. He may be a Myanmar national but chances are he's from Shan state and speaks his ethnic Tai-Yai language which has a lot of similarities with Thai. Depending on how long he's been in Thailand, he might have had very little exposure to Burmese and may well be fluent in Thai. There's also a strong political and cultural resentment to the central Burmese and their language due the longstanding civil war and Shan struggle for autonomy/independence. Next time, try doing an English-Thai-English translation instead.

Quick vocab lesson:

I'm a gay top. ผมเป็นเกย์รุก phom bpen gay ruuk

Can you bottom? น้องรับได้ไหมครับ nong rab dai mai krab 

Rab here (pronounced as "rub") literally means to receive.

Show him the above or you can do an even quicker "Me-Tarzan-You-Jane" version like this:

Point to yourself and say, "phom ruuk". (I'm top.)

and affectionately but firmly put your hand on his and ask, "rab dai mai?" (Can you receive?)

Notice I didn't use the word "gay" when referring to him at all as it usually doesn't matter in these transactions. It's about what he is willing or not willing to do. Besides, a straight-acting genuinely gay guy would unlikely admit it in front of his friends more so if he's Burmese.
