Inflated rates?!

I’m not a particularly skilled negotiator, but I still find it difficult to reconcile the prices mentioned here with what I usually pay. To be fair, I’m not especially interested in muscular guys; I hire through Grindr & Hornet, which means I avoid bar fees, and I reach out to them at odd hours. I usually negotiate the price down to 700–1000 baht for an hour, though I usually pay 1000. This is considerably lower than the inflated rates I see mentioned here!

I am not as experienced at negotiating as some of the other forum members who have been doing this a little longer than me...what I notice on this trip is the off fee seems to be consistently THB 500 regardless of which bar or club.  While there is no cover charge per se, you are required to buy a drink which can run anywhere from THB 300-500 depending on the bar or club.  From my perspective, this is no difference than clubs in other countries that have a cover charge to enter but there is no required drink purchase.  Same thing by a different name is all this is.  When it comes to offing the guys...I learned from this forum and personal experience to keep mamasan out of the negotiations.  I will only discuss directly with the guy any such arrangements.  I also find they will start high but quickly come down once they realize you are not brand new to the scene or a total novice.  Once they discover you have some sense of what is going on...they are more willing to negotiate.  It also depends on if you are expecting something short term or overnight.  I tend to go for the THB 1500 mark in my negotiations.  Then, if I have a really great or fantastic experience will usually include tip to THB 2000 and make that my limit.  Still, with drink, off fee, and money to the guy...you can easily be in it for THB 3000-3500.  That is a good bit more expensive than your 700-1000 via Grinder & Hornet.

Obviously Pattaya !!

Bangkok 🏙️is a bit harder ... because when I say 1000-1200 many reply back ( on Grindr) ,  saying traffic 🚦 🚗takes up their time getting to me and that's too low of a price they say ,  many of the "stunners" certainly won't go under 2000baht and you  certainly can't get African guys in Bangkok for under that ! 3k onwards 

Although I was successful in getting a young guy yesterday for 1000 baht , short time in Silom  that was close by 21yo stunner 

However in Pattaya ⛱️🌊YES ,YES  can get for 700 onwards if you negotiate, obviously not the stunners from Boyztown  but yes Pattaya cheaper...but .. but if your getting them in BANGKOK for 800 you Sir are doing bloody well !!😁😁

I was in Pattaya in January, supposedly the height of the high season, right? What was interesting is that the price of accommodation (I stayed at Copacabana), the price of street food and (yes) the price of a companion was the same as when I visited in the lowest part of the low season (August, September) last year. It's amazing really how stable these prices in these categories even though demand varies so much. The only thing that varied A LOT was the price of airfare which doubled in January. And now with the Strait of Hormuz closing down, I guess we should expect those prices to climb (perhaps precipitously) alas.

Taking about inflatrd prices ...Airbnb vs hotels

Well...I have been staying in Airbnb mostly as I have airline points  can use plus cash 

But I'm sometimes wonder why they practically charge the same as hotels 🏩🏨, especially as you don't get clean towels everyday etc , no clean of room etc ,but...they must be still guests as they wouldn't be advertising at hotel rates 🤔

I'm finding I'm turning away from Airbnb now especially in Bangkok but each to their own and if you don't like it....leave !

I cringe every time I read about "inflated rates". There is no such thing as an infated rate. The tip you pay is your way of thanking the boy you have just been with. If you are basically in the category of being poor, it will inevitably be on the small side. If you are well off, it ought to be much higher - although there are skinflints everywhere.

In my decades of bar hopping in Bangkok, tips were generally on the low side - but that was because there were too many young guys in Thailand in those years for whom the alternative to bar work was working in the paddy fields or in the village shop. Laterly I paid according to the experience I had just enjoyed.

We already know from posts on this and another chat Board that there is quite a variance between what posters regard as a minimum tip. But since this keeps coming up on posts, why not pin a small post at the top of the Thailand thread that the "usual' minimum tip for young guys from the apps is X and from the bars is Y - with  stress that this is a minimum tip!

Now I can see our friends @vinapu, @ChristianPFC and others jumping in to say this is a lousy idea. I look forward to such responses. And I hope those in Bangkok will realise that it is a large spread-out city and accept the point made in an earlier post by @Olddaddy

not really . Fees I pay are usually briefly negotiated with guy in question and are only loosely connected to what forums or mamasans  may be steering me to pay. Our experience with providers is of very personal nature and we should be paying  what WE think is good value for us, be it sex, quasi boyfriend experience or just satisfying curiosity or bend of those three.

Bottom of your story is that we get off  for different reasons , with some being Speedy Gonzaleses where just look of naked body brings them to the brink   all the way to those who need night long warm-up to exercise. And that's source of different tips being charged as boy may consider 500 for 15 minutes  effort  better deal than toiling 2 hours for 2000

 you brought very good point here , one, I haste to say I myself subscribe to as well.

 But in all fairness , not everybody may look for handsome or cute face, great body or even shapely  arrow straight 18 incher and willing to pay for it. Like in Olddadys example, for some any warm body would do , age , look and date of last shower irrelevant and again I mean it , not trying to be sarcastic and only slightly exaggerating if at all .
