Are they really only tops?

Recommended Posts

Okay this has been bugging me.

Pretty much every guy at the shops and bars is listed as straight or top. Like… all of them. Is that actually true, or do they just write that?

Because if you’re a top, it feels like there’s nobody left. Do a lot of these “tops” still bottom if you ask, or is that label usually real?

Also, what about you guys — top, bottom, or vers?

Not trying to start a debate. Just wondering what it’s like in real life vs what’s on the profile.

Most of the "top only" guys are straight. I doubt any of them are willing to bottom. The only time I had a straight guy bottom for me in Bangkok was a guy who worked at one of the gogo bars - the mamasan promised he could do "anything". He did bottom for me but reluctantly, and it was distracting and a turn off. There are plenty of bottoms out there though. If they are listed as straight at the massage spots, I would not bother trying to get them to bottom. Even topping can be a struggle for them and usually involves them watching straight porn just to stay hard.

I'm vers but only recently, like in the last 5 years or so. I was exclusively a top before that and I could find bottoms in Bangkok very easily.

I actually think topping is harder for a straight guy than bottoming. You have to stay hard with someone you’re not attracted to, and keep it going. Bottoming doesn’t require that.

That’s why I don’t really get the ones who insist on top only. Are they worried it would make them gay? Ha, I don’t think it works that way.

Anyway, thanks again for the reply.

Thanks for the reply, that’s really useful.

I’m top only, and honestly the idea of topping a guy who’s listed as a straight top is what does it for me. I know that sounds messy.

What I’ve noticed at the shops is the labels feel a bit crude. If he only tops, he gets filed under straight. If he’s vers, he goes under gay. I might be overthinking it, but it kind of looks that way.

I’ve never actually asked a straight-listed guy to bottom. I didn’t want to come off like an asshole client. That said, if extra money can be discussed, I wouldn’t mind trying — I don’t need him to be into it or put on a show. Just willing enough to go through with it, and not hostile about it. A blank face is fine. A bad mood would kill it for me.

Anyway, appreciate you taking the time. Gives me a clearer idea of what not to waste time on

I remember years ago in a blog Bangkok bios I think him mentioning that at the time gay was slang for bottom , and straight slag for top even if only hooked up with men…

This might be a time when using the Hamadan might be helpful.  Let them know what you want and they might make the arrangements (for a tip)

Thanks, that’s a really good shout. I’ll try that.

Yes you are correct.  I loved Rush and his exciting BLOG - his writing style was so addictive.  Thank GOD for the former owner of the SawatdeeNetwork for agreeing to host the archives of Rush's bangkokbois wordpress blog.

I believe the below update from 2011 discusses this straight boy being a bottom topic:

Some spas, like K Man, call out the fact that most of their tops are straight, but a few are gay but only top (they name them). Yes, it can be difficult for a straight guy to get hard enough to top a guy but they usually try to use straight porn to get themselves in the mood. This is why I usually ask if a guy is gay/bi or straight when hiring. However, that doesn't alway work in my favor if I'm looking for a top because some gay guys are mostly or completely bottoms but they advertise as vers.

The guy I offed from the gogo bar who was straight but "could do everything" grimaced the entire time I fucked him. While I was able to fuck him, it was a turn off to some extent. I'm not into causing pain or roleplaying rape scenarios, etc.

As you said yourself, you are "top only". Would you be able to bottom for guys just because it's your job?

That said, I guess if you want to find a straight guy to fuck, maybe try the gogo bars and ask the mamasan who is straight but willing to bottom?

Thanks for linking this. I enjoyed reading and certainly a good turn of phrase!

They may not think they are gay, but finding a straight stud to slide further up the Kinsey scale is a lot easier than you’d think.

Thanks for posting this, I haven’t thought about this site for a long time. Whatever happened to to the original author, Rush and his partner Num I believe it was?

Unfortunately he passed away:

This SawatdeeNetwork thread discusses some extra details but there still remain many unanswered questions about Rush:

  • how did he pass away,
  • what happened to his partner NOM.

https://sawatdeenetwork.com/v4/showthread.php?21705-Dancing-with-the-Devil-in-the-City-of-Angels&highlight=bangkokbois+rush+died

After Rush passed away I was very saddened and on one of my trips to Bangkok I specifically went to HotMale to try to learn about where NOM was.

Unfortunately, nobody at HotMale was able to help me identify this NOM character who supposedly worked at HotMale - the love of his (Rush's) life.

That made me even more depressed - as it made me think that perhaps NOM the character in Rush's blog was just a virtual character?

@hank75 and @kram987 What do you say?

Several massage places list many bottom guys, FaFa, 15M, for example. Many said to be gay.

Num could have been a make-believe character or it could have been a sobriquet that the blogger assigned to his friend (boyfriend?) to protect their privacy. Num or หนุม literally means young man and is a very common pen/nickname in Thailand for males. (Interestingly, the nickname doesn't change when they get old!) For the same reason, Num, if he did exist, may have worked at another bar. Protecting his privacy seemed to have been the right thing to do as you went to track him down!

But, seriously, you became depressed over this?

I can verify that at some point Noom worked at Hot Male, when I offed him he asked if I found him through Rush (I hadn’t known his real name).

It could be a pseudonym that Rush used...similar to the name I use for Cam here on the forum.  If anyone went to Hotmale looking for Cam and asked for him by that name, not a single person there would have a clue who that was.  It is a name I created here on the forum when sharing our adventures together.  Cam knows I talk about him here on the forum and share some of our experiences together.  It is not a secret between us...but he doesn't know what name I have given him.  He only knows I do not use his real name.

@bkkmfj2648 this is jolting my rusty old memories. Yes now I remember seeing Rush’s obituary posted on the Sawatdee forums.

Noom was very much real though it wasn’t his real name (like Celine, it’s all coming back to me now). Though they are few and far between, Rush did post photographs of him. It is the same guy, across the passage of a few years. Seeing his pic for the first time (back in the days when the blog was still live), I distinctly remember thinking Noom was not my type and somewhat older than I envisioned.

I just went back and did a search of the archived blog, by good luck and coincidence since the archived site is much harder to search and some posts have disappeared entirely, I’ve managed to locate a few photos of Noom. Would it be a violation of privacy to post them here or am I better off sending them by PM to @bkkmfj2648 and to @kram987 to see if it’s the same guy?

You are 100% correct. Rush spelled it “Noom” and chose it because it meant “young man”. To him, Noom was young, which led to my surprise (mentioned above) when I first saw a picture and he was not quite so young as imagined. As their relationship grew, Noom got more comfortable with his identity being outed and consented to photos being posted on the blog but I don’t think his real name ever was.

Lots of bottoms at Stars and Kman, right near each other. Some of them are straight that will bottom, but most are gay. Also Jey Spa. Just ask the booking agent on Line for what you want and they are pretty good at matchmaking especially if you slip them a 100 baht note the first time you come in.

I think Noom was probably a work name, I remember it was in his email adress.  Yes he was a bit older but lots of muscles and very nice guy.  In the blog Rush talked about he led as Noom wasn’t good with directions.  Yet with me he took charge and I could look around and he would take care of me.  I think he read the room well and delivered on what we wanted.   As to his privacy, I think he saw it as advertising lol.
