As I have mentioned previously, I really like going to Porto Alegre on a weekend when I am in Brazil. It's a 1 Million + population city in far South Brazil, closer to Buenos Aires than it is to Rio. It's much more European with a significant % of their population desecended from German/Italian/Polish immigrants. It has two suanas, one old but very comfortable and one new. It has three rentboy bars, which has a mix of suana guys and guys who have come out to make some extra money on the weekend. Porto Alegre is not a week long destination, better for a long weekend. I spent the last week in Rio. August is the end of their winter and the weather is usually in the 70's. This week was no exception. We had 7 Sunny clear days, 75 - 78 during the day and mid 60's at night, Perfect! While this is the "slow" season, the 3 main saunas were all busy, Meo Mundo, Pointe 202 and Club 117. Many of the Gay travelers to Sao Paulo stay at the Bourbon Hotel. It's across the street from 3 gay bars, at the end of the street is a gay disco. A block away is the metro/subway station that will get you to LaGoa sauna and One block the other way is "Praca de Republica" a park with walkways/ponds surrounded by food vendors during the day and last weekend quite a few "working" guys in the afternoon. I just returned from visiting Rio, Porto Alegre and Sao Paulo. It had been 7 weeks since my last trip to Rio and I was surprised, in a good way, by the number of new faces in the saunas! I just came back from my first trip to Rio. 8 days (or shall I say nites ?) in Heaven ! I will not write about safety in Rio since I commented this subject in another thread. Summarizing, I found Rio to be much safer than I imagined and much safer than it is described everywhere. If I was a bit reluctant to take the metro or to walk alone in the street the very first day, I did that regularly during all the other days without experiencing any problem. Staying Safe in Brazil - the first thing most people say to me when I tell them I go to Rio is "Isn't it very dangerous?" I tell them it's no different than any major metropolitan area in the world. There are areas I wouldn't walk around in L.A. or Miami day or night, and you have to exercise the same caution. The drag queen Lola Batalhoa is usually at one of the suanas several nights a week, usually either Meo Mundo or Pointe, but she is also at other clubs bars in Rio. She is famous there and you can see her tranformation from middle age guy with moustache to drag queen here on youtube this is part one and after it u can find the link to part 2. I have posted previously about Porto Alegre and how much I like the city and the two saunas there. Mezzaninu Sauna is different from all the others in Brazil in that it was built new from the ground up as a sauna, not a renovated older building like all the others. While many doubt it, I actually do other things in Rio the remaining 10% of them time when I am not at the saunas! The beaches in Rio are beautiful and there are two "gay" beaches. In truth, they are probably 25%+ gay. But the straight couples/families don't care or notice. Copacabana Beach: Look for the famous landmark, the Copacabana Palace. We all know that Rio can be dangerous and it is important to take advise from those of us who love going there and spending time there. I remember reading on another site that a recent visitor to Rio paid between $R70-100 to the sauna boys for a programma.. I remember last year that while most boys ask for that much or more, they usually would agree to $R50.. So my question is for any recent visitors to Rio..have the boys really raised their prices, or did that other poster simply not negotiate.. I don't think I paid a single guy more than the $R50 reias price, but I did tip $R10-20 depending on the "quality" of our time together.

The twins Romulo and Rodrigo have been working at Pointe 202 Sauna for the past three years. 22yr. old now, they made several videos several years ago.
