I am headed to Rio for Carnival. I love it there this time of year! Anyone else going to be in town for the big event? I'll be there for the month of February and would love to meet up with any Hoovillian's in town. PS. I am looking for the best place to get a table for Scala Gay and for one of the Sambadome nights. Any ideas? Here is an article I wrote about Carnival a few years back. It is quite long and a bit boring but pretty damm accurate. The Origins of Carnival Carnival has to be the oldest known public festival in the whole world, with some scholars suggesting it emerged as early as 10,000 BC, from the seasonal farming rituals of ancient peoples, annua…

After my last trip to Brazil and hanging out with FloridaRob and BigDaddy, I really do understand the importance of knowing the language. They were able to accomplish so much more than me as they could speak with the boys and not rely on one or two word phrases. As I want to spend a great deal more time in Brazil this year and in the years to come, I want to learn the language. I have purchased the Rosetta Stone DVD's and they are nice but just getting started. BigDaddy recommended http://www.pimsleurapproach.com/ as he said the CD's were all he needed to learn what he needed to know. I am also willing to spend a month or two in an intensive language school in the …

  5. Day 1 in Rio First, I was not sure if Club 117 was open or closed on Monday so I spent the day at my hotel. I went swimming and had a massage by the pool. I also had a tennis lesson. I really sucked at it and I know I’ll never me a Martina Navratilova but I had a good time watching the ball boys they hired to get the balls I hit out of bounds. I am not really sure if I enjoyed the playing as much as I did the games with the ball boys. But, I may try again. After a long series of flights (over 27 hours) and delay and delay and missed airport, etc, I was tried and did not want a long day. I really relaxed around the hotel and had a fun afternoon. But, around 5 or…

Just returned from a few weeks in the great city of Sao Paulo. It is amazing and wonderful. I love the city and the people. This time I stayed at the Renaissance Hotel. It is close to the Jardines area which is full of great shops and restaurants. It is a fantastic area. It is also very gay friendly and tons of gays live there and play there. The boys at LaGoa were fun and lively most night. Fragata was full on Saturday and Sundays were better. Alterosas is the best on Saturday afternoon. I was a little more adventurous this time around and played a great deal in the gay park at night. I met some great guys there and some hot ones. You MUST be careful if you pi…

I thought I would give a recent update on the Rio saunas. I posted on the sauna Thermas in Barcelona last fall. I have been to Brasil many times and wanted to let everyone know what is happening in the New Year. While the saunas vary in size and amenities, the bottom line is if there is a guy or guys there you like then it's the best sauna on that night. But they each have nights that they are busier than other nights. Pointe 202 in Copacabana is 5 years old, they had their 5th anniversary party last Saturday. Prior to this last trip, it had become one of my least favorites as it had the same guys with little change over the last few years, and while the rooms ar…

I will be going to Buenos Aires (third time) in mid-September. I haven't been to any good gay bars there and would appreciate any tips anyone may have. Also, I am interested in seeing gay tango. I know there are places to take lessons but I just want to watch some guys doing the tango. I am familiar with the usual escort web sites but wonder about street cruising and also about the apartments that have stables of boys for a little dalliance. If anyone has any information--the more specific the better--I'd appreciate it. Muchas gracias

I am visiting Brazil in June and I´d like some suggestions of new places to go. I already know Rio, San Paulo, Joahao Pessoa and Recife, but I would like some suggestions of other places to go. I always do my bookings through Carlo from Gay Travel Brasil (www.gaytravelbrasil.com) but I´d like to hear from member from the forum who´ve been to other places that I don´t know. I am versatile and I enjoy being topped by hung and masculine guys and I like to top young frail boys.

  14. By SIMON ROMERO Published: February 25, 2007 CARACAS, Venezuela, Feb. 24 — Venezuela’s arms spending has climbed to more than $4 billion in the past two years, transforming the nation into Latin America’s largest weapons buyer and placing it ahead of other major purchasers in international arms markets like Pakistan and Iran. Venezuelan military and government officials here say the arms acquisitions, which include dozens of fighter jets and attack helicopters and 100,000 Kalashnikov assault rifles, are needed to circumvent a ban by the United States on sales of American weapons to the country. They also argue that Venezuela must strengthen its defenses to counter pot…

  15. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070216/wl_nm/brazil_carnival_dc repeated below: RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) - Brazil's raucous Carnival celebrations kicked off in Rio de Janeiro on Friday with tens of thousands dancing and singing in the streets, defying a recent surge of gun violence in the city's slums. Carnival's samba-dancing King Momo -- the Lord of Misrule -- and his shimmying Queen and Princess were handed a giant symbolic key to the city in a sun-lit park as a band played Rio's boisterous anthem "the Marvelous City." "The city has its problems but now we're full of hope, and we salute all those who come to visit us for the world's biggest Carnival," Mayor Cesar Maia…

“Monkey Business” – (Sorry I’ve not posted the final chapter – returned home and went to Michigan for Thanksgiving, and acquired a new “companion” – the four-legged kind. He’s a two-year-old miniature Schnauzer and great fun. It’s easy to say “I’ve been busy”) After a leisurely Tuesday with great meals, Groucho (J) stays in while I (Harpo) decide to try Estacio again. Again it’s closed. So off to Pointe 202 I go – cannot waste the opportunity. And once again there is Fabio. Much better than any others, although it is nice to view the “merchandise”. And once again, Fabio almost overwhelms me – what a beautiful man, not only to look at, but also to feel. So many b…

“Singing in the Rain” – I know that most of Brazil is a rain forest and that it is Spring here – but one sunny day in eight days? If Spring showers bring Summer flowers, it will be so lush with blooms here, everything will be a riot of color. Saturday afternoon Gene (aka J) and Donald (aka Oliver) strolled to Copacabana beach, through an open bazaar, and on to observe the beautiful men sporting on the beach in spite of a few sprinkles. Took a few pictures of some playing a form of volleyball/soccer – played like volleyball, but no use of hands allowed – feet, heads, knees, and chests (yummm). I do like the bathing suits here! Had a light lunch of soup, bread, and b…

“Flying Down to Rio” – “Fred” (aka Oliver) and “Ginger” (aka J) met in Washington (Dulles) Monday evening (6th) and boarded for Rio. J was late getting in, but had time for two quick cigarettes. I sat next to a lovely widow (unfortunately not a lovely widower!) from Sacramento. Surprisingly was able to sleep for much of the time. Short layover in Sao Paulo before proceeding to Rio de Janeiro. Picked up by handsome Roberto and taken to his (and handsome Dirk’s) delightful B&B (http://www.ananab.com) for three days to decompress and acclimate. The weather is cool and cloudy – Christo is often shrouded in clouds. Still, it’s warmer than Ohio! Delicious dinner at …

The LA Times travel section today has a page on Buenos Aires. It's not much use to gay traveller's but is of some interest. One thing the bf and I did in Buenos Aires was go to Chinatown (Barrio Chino). It was pretty interesting...especially watching the Chinese merchants speaking in Spanish. It was quite popular with the locals too. We also went to the theater. We saw Victor/Victoria and The Producers. No, we don't speak Spanish, but we knew the stories and enjoyed the singing and dancing. The Producers has a very long first act, and, given the strange behavior of the people we were seated near, we didn't stay for the second act. But both nights were fun.

Well I have made it to Sao Paulo after 4 days in Rio. Had a great time in Rio, miss it already. It was so cool to walk into Club 117 Sauna and have people (sauna boys) know me by name and greet me with a kiss, plus a few other things. :+ Club 117 is definitely my favorite place and I have grown comfortable there. Danilo is serving as my guide and interpreter again and my last night in Rio I wanted to try to arrange a mini orgy. So I picked 3 sauna guys at 117 and Danilo talked to them for me. It was a blast (in more ways than one) but, I've learned it is very hard to concentrate on 3 well endowed toned Brazilian studs at one time. They were all about servicing me and …

Spent 9 days in BA and Rio recently. BA is beautiful city with great architecture. Met a local guy, Roberto, who took me on a walking tour to see architecture and art. A fine gentleman who was great to converse with over dinner. Did not get chance to hook up with escorts I wanted to see. In Rio, had guide come up from Sao Paulo for four days. Danilo was a` wonderful guide and a fun guy. Omly 19 but very mature. We hit it off very well tho he never had sex with his clients. Took me to Club 117 where played with two hot studs. Danilo took me to beaches and other sites. Also to good restaurants. He has great sense of humor. Hated to see him go home. Will visit…
