    Bye bye Obama

That's not a fair comparison. It wasn't easily disproven. And when you have a story like that, you run it. If you think any publication would run something they know is false, you don't understand how media works. They ran it because it was hot. Had they had the same on Kerry, they would have run it too. The media are whores. They may have their preferences, but when money and a story is on the line, that's what they care about. I think a better comparison is the stupid NY times story on McCain. They ran it because they thought others had gotten it, but they still shouldn't have run it. It was vacuous.
  2. But why would the assumption he's an escort generate anger, unless he had issues with it? How about, "No, I don't, sorry."
  3. Sodomy used to be illegal in about half the states not so long ago. I would think the gay community wouldn't be making judgement calls on legality. And when you strip that away, I don't see much difference between performing for your camera and performing for a client. I think he has issues with selling himself that he's trying to cover.

    Larry Craig

I imagine they thought, "why bother? He's already destroyed." It seems a fair enough penalty for his part of the sleaze. Hypocrisy isn't against senate ethics rules, and that's what he's really guilty of.
  5. I just got back from a long trip to SE Asia. I didn't go to Burma, but many who did. They echoed the comments about the friendliness of the people, and that many of them are quite desperate for the tourist dollar. I would have gone if we'd had more time. I think isolation suits the military government just fine. I think visiting and spending a few bucks is more likely to help than to hurt. my .02
  6. I think our society gets us pretty confused about love. An endless diet of romantic comedies tries to persuade us that there is one form of "true love", and that if ours doesn't look like that it isn't the real thing. I'm married. To my best friend. I spent most of my twenties trying to figure out how to get a mr. hottie that I could fall in love with. One day I woke up and realized I was already in love. This friendship as I had characterized it was deeper and richer by far than a lot of couples I knew. But I'd been blind to it, because it wasn't sexual. It didn't look like what I thought it was supposed to look like. We've been married over 10 years now, and are happy as can be. When I want to get laid, I hire. I think that what the heart wants and what the penis want don't have to be the same thing. As long as all parties accept it.
  7. There are something over 10 million illegals in this country. Doing jobs that americans won't do. We have horrible problems here in Oregon getting enough farm labor for the crops. Farmers have had to switch crops to things that require less labor to avoid having things rot in the field. I'm not exactly thrilled that we have a ton of illegal immigrants, but I think it's a consequence of us not having a proper immigration policy that allowed the workers our country needs to come here. Deporting them won't work while we have such a need for the labor.
  8. Romney folding surprised me, but I think it makes sense. Once you've lost it, you're not getting it back at this stage of the race. The conservatives seem to be livid, but I think McCain is a lot more conservative than they give him credit for, he just doesn't kiss ass on the right very well. I think he's much more electable because he has a image as a maverick. Read an interesting letter from Bob Dole to Rush Limbaugh about McCain a few days ago. Bob Dole was pointing out that McCain's voting record by some measure was as conservative as Jesse Helms! On the democratic side, I also think Hillary has lost it. She's lost the momentum, the fund raising, and Obama has overcome his lack of experience issue to be viewed as very viable. I think the slow bleed out for her started tuesday. We'll see.
  9. I agree that I can't imagine an Obama/Clinton ticket either way. I think John Edwards gets offered something else other than VP if Obama wins. I don't think Clinton will offer him anything.
  10. My prediction is for McCain to win. If not enough to seal the nomination, enough to dominate the republican side. On the democratic side, I think Obama will do better than polls suggest as he continues to surge. But, I think Hillary will 'win' super tuesday. I think with the proportional distribution on the democractic side, it's tough to call how that one will go beyond that. If Obama splits super tuesday with Hillary, then I think her candidacy is in deep trouble and may be doomed.

    CLOVERFIELD

I didn't like it. The camera work was just silly to me. I understand the desire for realism, but a lot of the time you couldn't see anything on the screen as the camera was pointed the floor, or was spinning around so fast you'd get sick if you watched the screen. The characters also annoyed me, so I was kinda disappointed when they all didn't get eaten.
  12. I used to be, but I'm not any more. As I've gotten older and switched jobs, I just stopped announcing it to everyone. I'd rather they knew, but I don't want to put in the effort, and I'm not really close to any of them. The fact that I married my best friend has complicated matters, because then I'd have to explain that our relationship is amazing and wonderful, but that it isn't a traditional marriage. That would probably lead to questions about open marriages that just seem like unprofessional conversations to have. That said, I've come out to a few people at work who I've gotten closer to, and if someone outed me, I wouldn't care much.
  13. I'm envious. I wish I had the economic opportunity to do it. Sounds like fun. Growing up a military brat, I'm not much attached to my stuff. I think a laptop and the road and I'd be good.
  14. I agree with the think local sentiment. I'm working to support a county commissioner in a non-partisan race because I think she's great for our county. I'm not going to give nationally again.
  15. Those were the negatives I was talking about, when you'd vote for any other candidate. Personally, one of the reasons I prefer Hillary, though I'll vote for Obama if he wins the nomination, is the failed health care plan. I don't have the same reaction to her that lots do though. I just see a strong successful woman. I want a president who has learned the hard way how to get things done in Washington. I fear Obama is too green at a time when learning on the job isn't a great idea. I'd rather vote for him in 8 years. Edwards just seems creepy to me. Does anybody else think endorsements matter much? I can't think of any time when somebody else's recommendation of a candidate swayed me. Most of the folks I know I would think of the same way. Maybe I just hang around different crowds.
  16. But half of the voters were black, and Obama took those voters by a 4 to 1 margin. And its Edwards home state. Seems like it was more about the black vote than anything else. How significant is the black vote nationally, I wonder?
  17. It's an interesting primary cycle, things more of a horse race than in years past it seems to me. I think South Carolina says that Obama has the black vote, I'm not enough of an analyst to say what that means to delegate count. But I'd imagine what held in south carolina is going to carry through for the black vote (unless something dramatic changes). Interestingly, I think all the front runners have big flaws that will make for a messy general election. Obama - Washington lightweight. Just 3 years as a senator. Hillary - "bitch" carries a lot of negatives McCain - America and he disagree on the Iraq war a lot Romney - flip-flopping mormon. (while this crowd might find that hot, I don't think the general public will). I think Rudy is DOA, and I think Huckabee is too fringe to be credible. Edwards may play spoiler at the convention, but I think it's more likely that he will flame out as his lack of viability becomes more apparent to voters. How do the rest of you handicap it?
  18. Do the republicans even know who the Blade is? I can't imagine them having a "gay outreach director". It's great in theory to play both sides of the fence to get what we want, but the other side of the fence has the religious right so far up its ass it burps lube. As long as that's the state of affairs, the DNC knows that the vast majority of us are going to vote democratic pretty much no matter what.
  19. I don't think debates really demonstrate much of use. One hopes the president will have thoughtful considered policies, and deal with important questions after reflection. Does a candidate's skill with rhetorical flourishes show any of that thought? Not to me.
  20. Rick Donovan was such a hottie. thanks for the pics. I had such fantasies about him in college.
  21. As one of the old school folks who remembers the horrible devastation that HIV has had on our community, The current manageability of the infection doesn't make it any less frightening to me. The New York Times has a good article on long-term effects of the anti-viral therapies. I hope we find a real and final cure for this plague some time soon. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/06/health/0...amp;oref=slogin (I believe the NY times requires registration to read, but it is worth it)
  22. This is my general sentiment. I'm willing to support the site, but it isn't worth $8 a month to me to enlarge pictures. I get my porn elsewhere, so any offers in that area are not of interest.

    Here We Go Again

Give the thing a rest. His blog is all about gossip about other people, somebody posts gossip about him and it's a witchhunt?

I am gay. Craig is a cock-sucker. There is a difference.
  25. I wish I had these options. Inspired in part by your story, I have been going to the gym regularly for the last six weeks, and making good progress, but the only trainer convenient looks like she was a high school cheerleader. She's great, but... Still, the sight of the hot young things working out does give me inspiration...
