  1. I think a travel buddy without strings attached will be perfect, especially if he knows some English and teach me some Portuguese. This will certainly make the trip more authentic and enjoyable.

I find the infamous Brazilian jealousy counterintuitive because they are the ones having sex or being intimate with hundreds of men and women albeit it's work. Regardless, from a pure number perspective, shouldn't it be the other way around?

  2. Al final, another update!

Do you think Nov is a good time to visit Brazil? You have so much insight. It would be nice to catch up in person if our paths cross in Brazil.

By the way, on a nosy front, how did some of the guys who prominently featured in previous posts gradually fade away? Was there any drama? Even if they were GPs, I still think there must be some genuine attraction or chemistry among you guys. Or they had already accepted it as part of the deal?

  3. Excellent report. Even though I lack the bravery to travel in this crazy time, I still quite enjoy peeking the world through others' lens.

Out of curiosity, as a fellow Asian guy, what's your experience like in general in these Latin American countries? Latin American is probably somewhere you don't meet a lot of Asians, maybe except Peru and Brazil which have quite some Chinese and Japanese populations.

Google translate works great But you missed the point of the post!  Don’t negotiate! Give the price you think it is worth and if they don’t accept say thanks and go to the next guy you are interested in! 9-1/2 times out of 10 he will stop you before you can say a word to the next guy! :-)

Will be so fun to see tomcal give the stern thanks but no thank you live. lol

I think maybe you missed what I was saying...there is NO negotiating on my part, and actually have very seldom ever discussed price/money. When we are done I hand them the money and that’s the end of it! I know I am paying the going rate! And they know! Obviously being a familiar face and known to a lot of the guys gives me and several other posters here a advantage! But I have never in 19 years of going to Brazil negotiated price... no matter how bad I wanted him! Once you deviate it’s out, all the other guys will know you paid that guy more and then the game playing starts!

I believe being known among the guys there does help because some other posters had shared stories of guys playing dumb and demanding more even after agreeing to the price. I will have so much to learn from you! Will you still go to Brazil this year so I can learn from the master?

You must be new to this?

For the most part, the sauna garoto scene is close knit and most of them know each other, are friendly with one another, or try to get along, if not as friends then at least as business associates. Helping each other out helps extend their own business, and makes their own time spent as a garoto easier. Letting each other know about clients is one really effective way to do that.

My observation is that for most garotos, talking about other clients to garotos is less about pure gossip and more about business communication. But there are ones who do enjoy gossiping and shooting the shit, just for the sake of it (a small minority).

    Am I that transparent? lol

The business in NA is definitely more like independent contractor and guys are likely to get together to discuss which clients are good and which are bad. With some practice and more observation, I think I should be able to get the hang out it!

I agree with this, @Tomcal. I have been going to Brazil regularly for a decade (though definitely not as much as you!), and I am aware that I have built a certain reputation amongst the garotos — a good one. The garotos for the most part know what I am attracted to and what I like, as well as what I pay. But like you, Tomcal, I visit often enough to establish that reputation and rapport.

The ones most likely to be quoted high prices are those clients who are least likely to be seen again (or at least not for quite some time) by the sauna garotos. Also, as @badboy says, the clients who are found to be less appealing in some way will get a bump in regular rates. And for those here who are extra-sensitive to this topic, this is NOT just about the client’s looks, build or perceived physical attractiveness (although that can sometimes contribute to it). It also includes other things that sauna garotos find to be more trouble to deal with, like anything from certain requested sex acts, to difficult personality, to even body odor or hygiene (all things that I have heard garotos complain about concerning other clients before). Basically, anything that is viewed as more difficult work or less tolerable work, in the garoto’s eyes, can get you a higher price tag from them.

Nonetheless, if you’re spending too much time worried about what you’re paying versus what the next client is, then you’re doing having fun all wrong. Quibbling over an extra 50 reais is (as of today) quibbling over an $8.75 USD, an extra 100 reais  today is $17.50. Sure, everyone should keep to a budget and not go into their living expenses, but if you’re kvetching over $8 USD, maybe it’s best for you not to travel abroad at all.

I agree with you. Sex apart, the opportunity of being able to experience local culture and different foods are more than enough to compensate for scort situation. It's been my observation so far. Hopefully, I will have the opportunity to collect more samples later this year. I wouldn't say it's the price differential, but maybe a bruise to the ego. Gradually, I will get over that!

I agree with most of what everybody has commented on but everybody also needs to remember that your price is also quoted based on what you look like by some of the guys....

I know fat or out of shape or overly gross guys will be quoted higher prices in hopes they so no because its too much work...

I have also seen/been given a better rate/lower rate based on how attractive you are to the sauna guys....

That is a huge variable when it comes to pricing...while there are set prices, it pays to be in shape, healthy, attractive, CLEAN, etc.

That doesn't really help. lol. I think I tick all the boxes, but maybe being a twenty something year old Asian guy with a swimmer body, I don't have what the local guys are looking for aesthetically? Well, I think my experience has been quite polarizing. It's either they really wanna have sex with an Asian guy cuz there's very few locally or they quote me really astronomical prices. But again, that's just my experience so far. Hopefully, I can experience more later this year!

Unlike Argentina's, Brazil's culture is not U$S centered. In Argentina, prices do not match exactly currency exchange fluctuations, but if the dollar goes up, local prices follow. All prices, not only sex workers' fees. Besides, talking specifically about prostitution, as there is not a public market like Brazilian saunas, there are differentiated fees for local and foreign clients.

Not in Brazil. However, I noticed that many Americans think that GPs are quoting them a different fee because they are Gringos. I think this misconception could be coming from not understanding a bargaining culture.

In a Brazilian sauna, a GP will always quote a high price first to a new client, whatever your passport is. It is up to your mastering of the game to pay the price you want. I usually negotiate a price that is about 50 Rials above what local clients pay, but I could easily negotiate a lower price. Part of this negotiation is establishing empathy and connection. A likable potential client get better deals.

Your nationality has really no weight in the price you pay in a sauna. If you do not know the game, you will overpay whether you are a local or a visitor.

It's definitely different culture. From everyone's comments, it seems that it's also a great way to keep the programa guys on their toes. I'm not afraid of negotiating. In fact, that's what I do every day for a living. It's just that how to do it tastefully and politely in the local culture while not making it a long drawn out process. La practica hacer al maestro. lol

With respect I Totally disagree!  All the guys know I am a American, that I live in SoCal, that I have a home in Mexico and not once have I been asked for higher rates or “American rates”! Now that maybe because I am known by a lot of the guys over the past 19 years and consistency plays a part! Actually I do not remember any asking what the rates are in the US! I think being consistent, not varying,  makes for smooth business transactions.
One thing everyone needs to remember is the Guys all talk about clients!! If they say they don’t they are lying! They talk about your preferences, what you enjoy most , what is the least they have to do if you are someone they don’t like personally, and What you will pay! For example, if I tell one guy I am coming to Rio on  a certain date I guarantee within 72 hours I will get a minimum of a 1/2 dozen messages from different guys asking to meet up when I come to Rio. But you have to let them know in the beginning what you pay and if they want more, no hard feeling but good luck!  I said this a number of times from 2001 - 2005, since then not one guy has discussed price with me! By word or reputation they know I am fair but not stupid and they respect theat! I have had drinks with the guys numerous times with them telling me hoe stupid this or that guy paid some amount way over what is the normal rate!  I am not trying to argue with anyone else’s experiences just giving my 2 cents on what I have experienced / heard!’

I never expected my small comment could spark so many responses! Sorry to rain on your post.

You touched on a few very important points. One has to know the local markets extremely well in order to gauge that price. It's way better in a negotiation to start low and end on a high note than the other way around. Also, consistency and reputation help tremendously. But again, the concept of fair price is so subjective. Some guys may double or triple the standard local price, but still have a bargain compared to domestic price. But one thing I don't quite understand is that why would you wanna tell your friends about these over paying clients? Shouldn't you want exclusive access than having everyone go after them? If I were them, I would wanna keep my mouth shut and monopolize that access for as long as I can. After all, it's a limited shelf life business. Don't you want to plan strategically?

Nope...unless the minimum wage doubles during the next months (impossible, it would take 12/15 years normally), and it would mean hyperinflaction, and again a even weakier currency.

Escort prices are not excluded by the demand/supply law...especially in a market where the biggest share of customers is represented by the locals.

Exchange rate only affects imported goods, and the gringo rates...so if there where boys asking 400 just becase a potential customer is a  gringo, maybe there will be ones trying to ask 600 now. Why not? If one is so stupid to be willing to pay 4 to 6 times what he would have paid by offering a price (100/150 BRL) instead of asking it to a GdP...

Chances are the programas will get cheaper because of the 2 following reasons:

    1. Lower demand...local sugar daddies will be less and less willing to pay as much as they did.
    2. Higher supply...many of the boys (enen their families) have temporary jobs, and most of them have "easy" minimum wage (1'040 reais/month) ones...many will become unemployed...more garotos de programa.

It will suck from a human perspective....from a mean customer perspective it will be paradise.

Never accept the gringo price, and never ask for the programa's price, for shit's sake. Make them a offer...100/150 saunas...200/300 internet (+ uber as a tip)

I agree with you on that there's likely more supply given that a lot will be out of work and have to resort to some extraordinary measures to replenish that lost revenue. But in the meantime, I am concerned that crime rates will go up as more and more people become desperate and try to make some quick bucks.

A lot of people seem to be tightening their belts. Maybe it's the perfect time to splurge on a budget. lol

I always pay the same price for the last several years! The guys in general are Not keeping tabs of various currencies and different exchange rates!  I said this before “foreigners are not the majority of any saunas business, the guys prices stay in line with what their local customer’s can afford!
The only time this has ever been a Issue is when a American or European or Canadian goes there to a sauna talking about how much more are you getting for dollars compared to the reale! Not something to be bragging about to sauna guys...IMHO

That's good to know. However, my experience has at times been that as soon as they figure out you are a foreigner, they would give you a gringo price or say something like guys of their calibre could make 200-400 dollars in the states. I mean nothing wrong with negotiating, but doing it in a foreign language kinda takes all the fun out of the thing you are actually interested in.

  13. I don't necessarily think a tour guide is necessary. I would say just talk to a few guys on Grindr or other gay dating apps and meet for food (it's a great way to gauge if there are any chemistry and connection. If there is none, both parties can part ways after food without feeling hurt. You are in a foreign country after all, so it's better to keep the fuss at a minimum level. I would say do not go for drinks because who knows if your drinks could be compromised). Many guys are very friendly and love to show you their culture if you can cover transportation, food, and entrances to museums. I met a couple nice guys just for sightseeing. I got quite lucky maybe because I was the extreme minority and exotic person there, or just because Colombians are  horny.

Some other members might have commented on it, but neither Bogota nor Medellin has a large Afro/dark population. You may want to try Cali instead. Paisa have much lighter skin.

Final note. I notice that you have like 4-5 days in Bogota. I don't think that's enough since Bogota is a huge city. But again, I am a slow traveler. But something you may want to keep in mind.

If that's the only reason you're going to SP then I increase my suggestion for you to add on another locale. Unless you can get into big crazy global cities just for their bigness and craziness, you might be hurting after a few days. But I'll share my SP nonsexual attractions later if you need tips on how to fill time there. Others here can too, I'm sure. Is there no United flight from west coast Canada to Houston? That, I find, is the best connection point. I've done the SP-Toronto connection a couple times. It's like taking 2 long international (for me) flights back to back.

Argentines speak a distinct, and fast, form of Spanish, including slightly different conjugations. Brace yourself. I'm not Latin but I've been to many hispanophone countries and love picking out their linguistic particularities. I am a west coaster but that sleep schedule is just from getting old. lol. (And to exercise, also very west coasty.)

After reading everyone's comments, I believe adding either Rio or BA seems to be the most logical way to go. I came across the Houston flight as well. The caveats with that if I remember correctly are the fare, being at least 300 more, and the flight going to Houston being so exorbitantly early. I don't mind red eye flight, but flight at 6 something is just too much for me.

Yes, I did notice that Argentinos would speak quite differently from other Latinos. That was my experience in Cancun at least. They also speak very fast, kinda like singing. I guess getting old isn't so bad after all. Going to bed early and getting up early, at least according to the 2017 Nobel prize in Physiology and Medicine in regards to circadian rhythm, are good for your health.

@Anthonyvan - pardon me for assuming you are from "the States". I thought I actually saw that in the thread but no. Add my chime in that you could have a very nice, relaxed, easy-paced trip doing 4-5 days in SP and 4-5 days in BA. Two very different cities, cultures, and "scenes." While Sao Paulo does have its charms, it is not by any means considered a touristic town. I've found things to like about SP and always made a point to explore new neighborhoods or restaurants, but it's been my longstanding belief that the single greatest most mindblowing must-see-it-to-believe-it, won't find it anywhere else tourist attraction in SP was the old Lagoa. I can only say that to a small segment of people who ask about SP, so I'll say it here. But most people find SP to be a concrete jungle unless they scratch the surface real hard.

BA is special to me because I've been there at some interesting, restless times in Argentine history (of which there is much). It is a place of many tales, many eye-opening impressions, and many very talkative people. The most memorable tales, impressions, and talkative-if-dubious people have usually occurred at about 3 a.m., somewhere near Avda. Santa Fe. I'm normally a bed at 10, up at 4:30 (!) kind of guy. Sleep dep hits my body real hard and tends to give me a cold after a few days. But I loved soaking up the nocturnal side of BA, as there's nothing like it anywhere I've traveled. Things I've seen around 3 a.m. on the streets: Entire family window-shopping with young child in hand and toddler in stroller, video game hall packed with teens, blue haired fur-decked ladies powdering their nose or having fainting spells or both, cartoneros driving horse-drawn carts, an angry gate-pounding demonstration. The famous (and overrated) cemetery has a massive bar and restaurant scene going all night right outside its walls.

But it's been a while for me so maybe things have changed.

The only reason that SP is on the list is because there's no good flight from the West Coast to Rio, either exorbitantly long (over 30 hours) or insanely expensive. However, AC does offer a good direct flight between Toronto and SP. That's why I am thinking about going to SP. Not to mention flights between SP and Rio are unbelievably cheap.

Are you of Latino descent? Bed at 10 and up at 4:30. I must say that sounds like a West Coast guy up for early trading or a business guy that deals with a lot of east coast customers. Just a wild guess. If I go to BA in the end, I have to sharpen my Spanish skill, which currently is barely conversational.
