  1. I can 'second' this. I've had service there twice and was most pleased both times. Beats any experience I've had in the U.S. 'by a mile'! While I have no first-hand experience with Bumrungrad, I have several friends in Chiang Mai that have had procedures done there and they praise it unreservedly. [Ah... so this is how you use this 'multi quote' feature. Doh!...I finally catch on!]
  2. While it is still a couple of years longer before time for my permanent relocation to Chiang Mai, I'm viewing it the same as you, Bob. I also verified with the Human Resources office at my workplace that, indeed, by BCBS policy will be in full effect in Thailand. And, it's good reassurance to know that others are successfully following the same path.
  3. Thanks for this info from your point of view, njjim. It is sure to be helpful to anyone planning or even contemplating a trip. Well done.
  4. Hardly. But you, friend, may be doing so for yours.
  5. Good grief! Why all the angst, thaiworthy!? It's only a 1000 baht. And, he didn't say that the person was "tugging at his shirtsleeve". His friend, his wish to help, his 1000 baht. And...only choosing between a "foolish farang and a wise one"?? How about....maybe a "caring" one.
  6. Thanks again, GT. And, Mr. Black Shirt is just adorable!! mak mak!
  7. Oh my lord! Thanks much for these pics, GT. Yeah, I'm one who normally likes the leaner lads, but I could sure make an exception or two with these!! 555
  8. Perhaps z909 is interested to hear of additional accounts of other members' visits to the area. Or, maybe he was just simply being conversational. It certainly wouldn't be the first post on the forum for which there was no apparent reason to say whatever was said! I'd like to hear updates too, z909.
  9. I understand the point. I am a professional musician -- a conductor. My point remains: It might be nice to just accept opportunities as they are presented, for the intrinsic value of each.
  10. Consider one thrown! I would think one would revel in the opportunity as presented, rather than muse "well, if only they had....." Tsk, tsk.....
  11. If in Chiang Mai, try Khun Anek at Suit Lanna. Exceptionally fine work.
  12. Has anyone had any experiences with "FlightsFromThailand.net"? They are an online discount airline company, and they have an office in Pattaya according to their website. I've not heard of them before and I haven't been able to find any online reviews for them. Just wondering if anyone can recommend them. Thanks!
  13. Quite well said, PattayaMale. I concur completely. My Thai boyfriend wants to come to the U.S. in order to learn more about me and my culture, in the same way that I am learning his. And as you say, PattayMale, his idea.

    mae sot

I think, perhaps, you may be confusing Mae Sot with Mae Sai. Mai Sai is the border town across from Tachilek.
  15. This is the contact info that I have from this past summer. Excellent service! Bell Travel Service Co.,Ltd Tel. Bangkok Office: 02-747-4673, 02-747-4675 Tel. Pattaya Office: 038-370-055, 038-370-056 Suvarnabhumi airport: 086-345-8442 and 086-345-8441 Email: rrc_bus@hotmail.com
  16. Excellent guys! I especially like those "binding Thais"... Keep 'em coming.
  17. My experience was identical to 'topjohn5', when during my last visit this past summer, I opened an account with Bangkok Bank. Easy as could be, no problems at all. And, I can confirm that they, indeed, do not send statements to your Thai "address"..... at least not to date.
  18. Thanks, KhorTose, for this excellent recommendation. Their website is fascinating. I'll be very interested to look into this further in my future Chiang Mai visits. Thank you!
  19. This is the H.I. on Ploenchit Road, right? Thanks for the info!
  20. GT, I want to thank you again for these wonderful reports. I look forward to reading each one of them. I'm quite impressed with your commitment to the ride. I know it's far from being easy. And your taking the time to make the photos and getting them online is very much appreciated. I'm keeping a list of all of these sites you write about and will add them to my 'must see' list, which is getting longer and longer. Thanks again!
  21. Yes, I remember too. It used to be quite a nice way to travel....quite a 'style'.
  22. GT, thanks so much for sharing your experiences. I do so very much enjoy reading about them and seeing the photos. I appreciate all of your efforts!

    Chiang Mai House

KhorTose, is there another link for Jasmine Homes? This one seems to be 'redirected'. Thanks.
  24. Would anyone happen to have any recent information on hotels in Luang Prabang? Thanks for any info.
