  1. As far as I can judge, Balcony/Telephone/Dick's are not prepared for offing, it's like going to 7-11 and ask a staff if he wants to come and what the off-fee is. It could even be considered an insult. But I never tried, however I met one waiter from Telephone and one from Balcony after work for free. And I still have a little crush on one very cute waiter in Balcony, but he isn't interested. Most of the beer bars on Soi Twilight are host bars, I think only Dick's Cafe and (others where the waiters wear uniform, I don't remember the name) are not for offing, at least not as a standard procedure. I recall two offs from host bars in Pattaya, off fee and tip were comparable to gogo bars.
  2. Yes, I noticed it on my hibernation Dezember 2010 - February 2011. Absolutely amazing, neo-gothic architecture in the middle of Bangkok, in a quiet (no traffic passing through) area with trees! Here is a picture from inside the area: And this is the entry on Suan Phlu (= Sathorn Soi 3, on the eastern side, about 200 m (from memory, confirmed by map) from Sathorn Road.): The Thai script on the arch simply says: Suan Plu Garden. I had the same thing in mind: to use it for "Where was this picture taken" one day. I know of the wat that looks like a gothic church as well. Stickmanbangkok has a weekly quizz: Where (or sometimes when) was this picture taken? I hope there is a law that allows trespassing the condominium. (Edit: I am still that naive to beliefe that there is a law, it will be followed.) When it was under construction, you couldn't pass from Babylon to Suan Phlu, now you can, but there are gates, and they might close them during nighttime. On a recent holiday I walked from Suan Phlu to Si Bam Phen with a friend, and the gates were open (for people, but not wide enough for cars). If they had been closed, we would have had to take a large detour or even better a taxi.
  3. I once read somewhere (quoted from memory): I rather regret what I did than regret what I didn't do. OR Better to regret what you have done than what you didn't do. (Or something with the same message: don't complain about missed opportunities to experience something new.)
  4. Outrageous! Even the Catholic Church pardoned Galilei, although about 400 years after he had to rescind his claim that earth turns around sun. How to deal with deserters: "A soldier might die, a deserter must die." (my translation, orginal: Adolf Hitler (Mein Kampf): „Der Soldat kann sterben, der Deserteur muss sterben“) Or to put it differently: the brave and good die at the front, the cowards survive and f**k the widows of those who died?
  5. I book my flights 2 or 3 months in advance, that excludes last minute deals. Next time, I will check on the airline's hompages for prices (after finding a suitable flight on a travel webpage).
  6. The additional charges were similar for the following sites I tried: opodo, govoyages, edreams and bravofly. Bravofly deserves mentioning as is has an overview of prices up to +- 3 days from the main date. This gives a grid of 49 different choises for day of departure and return, the lowest price for that combination shown in the grid. That fulfils my needs, as I have usually a flexibility of one week for my flight dates.
  7. I use this one: http://www.httrack.com/ and there are others availabe. It saves a lot of work (I would not want to wast my time by saving websites manually), you just start it and some hours later (depending on how large the website is), you have complete copy. You can browse the copy like you browse the original webpage, only in the address line you will see that it's from your harddrive and an added bonus is that most adverts are just white area. I now do so with every website I like. As shamelessmack showed, every website on the internet can disappear at any time. Bangkokbois changed the style of his blog some months ago. Before, I had to increase font size (Ctrl + "+", works in any website) to read it. (To avoid any confusion: My name is Christian, that one is Chris, a different person.) He seems to be involved in the following websites: http://bangkokboy.de/ (no new entries since 2009) and http://gaythailand.de/ and http://www.chriskoeln.de/blog/ In my opinion, gayboythailand is still unrivalled.
  8. Yesterday, I wanted to book a flight in Europe (Paris-Berlin and back), and was surprised how the price grew from 78 E (displayed on the search) to 92 E (with emission charge), and then they wanted to add another 16 E for payment by credit card (to make a total of 108 E), I abandoned the website to sleep over the matter. It helped: I went to the airline's homepage (easyjet), where I got the flight for a total price of 81 E : no emission charge, no other various taxes and most important no charge for paying by vire transfer (credit card payment costs 6 E or 2,5% whichever is greater).
  9. (I only read part of the previous posts.) Long time ago, I checked some of the profiles and wrote some messages, but didn't get any reply. So I assume this part is more or less dead (i.e. people do not use and those who put up profiles are not checking email or whatever).
  10. That sounds good! How did you get there (and back)? Is there any public transport availabla?
  11. I read(present)/read(past) those that publish daily (bangkokbois, gayboythailand) daily, others that do not publish daily (baobao, shamelessmack, ricequeendiary, simonlover), I check two or three times per week. Bangkokbois is polarising, to put it charitably. The discontinuation of gayboythailand was announced, so I made a copy of the entire blog (I found a programm on the internet that dos it for you). However, the discontinuation of shamelessmack was completely unexpected, so I only have a few printouts of maps. Fortunately, ricequeendiary is still online (nonetheless, I made a copy of the complete blog).
  12. Although my exposure to porn is very limited, this is good news to me. If people watch porn without (the actors wearing) condoms, they think it's okay not to use condoms for sex.
  13. They have discounts for books as well. Everything at the Asia books I went to seems to be discounted at 20%.
  14. I used Oman twice so far (from London to Bkk and from Paris to Bkk), both economy class. Stops in Muscat were about 3 hours. Times of departure were ok (I like to fly over night, even though I can't really sleep in these chairs), and prices were significantly (more than 20%) lower than direct flights.
  15. A few days ago, I met a Thai friend at Balcony (the part that is opposite For Fun - two House drinks for 99 Baht) and even there the music was too loud to have a conversation without shouting and repeating. That was around 11 pm. Earlier in the evening, 6 to 7 pm, the music/noise level is ok. I will reduce my visits to Soi 4 to one or two per holiday. In a gogo bar, I can use (and I do use) earplugs, but for drinking and chatting I will go somewhere else.
  16. Gaybutton's list is a must-read for every bar owner! For me, dancing is not that important. It's a nice addition, but not absolutetely necessary. For dancing, I can go to a ballet. For me it's fine if the boys wear whichever underwear or swimmwear they want. I actually prefer it to underwear given out by the bar. The boy's taste in undwear is more like my taste in underwear than what the bar owners give them.
  17. I know this blog and I know this article. I wanted to say that I like briefs more than boxers, not wearing briefs over boxers.
  18. That's too difficult for me, I could make wild guesses about the continents. But as a teetotaller I want to take umbrage that the prices are wine/champagne. At least there is an alternative in money. (Teetotaller is not correct; I drink on average two litres of beer per year, but I don't drink any wine or champagne.)
  19. No. I am years behind the current developments in mobile phone technology. I am always amazed when I see the phones Thai moneyboys have. So I am roughly aware of what you are talking about. The last phone I bought was a Nokia 6210 (?) which was in early 2001. It's still in perfect working condition, but the screen has a low resolution so reading SMS is tedious. In 2009, I got a newer model (Samsung E720 ?, colour display and build-in camera) as a gift from a friend (there are people who get new phones every few years with their contracts), which will last (current estimate) well until 2015 or even longer.
  20. So far, I only knew "beat the monkey". I can't think of any German expressions verb-article-noun at the moment.
  21. (No vote - question to long/complex.) I dislike tight fitting trousers. But I like tight fitting shirts. I prefer tight fitting underwear (or rather exactly fitting, like a second skin or painted on the skin) over boxer shorts.
  22. Sorry, I don't get it. What is "pulling his pudding"?
  23. Christian; I am not so sure you are German but you write like an American? I like to read your posts. Does this make sense to you? I can't add to the the five same words in a sentence, but I like sentences like The soldier deserted his dessert in the desert. (The solider left his pudding in the Sahara.)
  24. I have a book about homophones in the English language. It contains a poem where many words are replaced by homophones. I don't have the book at hand, but a quick serch on the internet gave this: (the poem in the book was different from this) Finding a word replaced by its homophone is always a special delight for me. I found examples in real life for these: waste/waist, male/mail, peace/piece, semen/seaman, nose/knows and others to give so. a piece of one's mind to have one's peace of mind Let me use this occasion to thank LMTU, who has been an especially rich source in this regard.
  25. The former Bangkok Variety is now Bangkok Desire.
