Pattaya accommodation suggestions

"I am having a second thought about the Ambiance due to the "fish bowl" effect"

That doesn't bother me in the least, as we are all in the same fishbowl, and we are all the same species of fish.

And as I don't know any farang in Boyztown, I couldn't give a shit who sees me.

The Ambiance is perfect for me, as I often finish the evening by going to the last show at BBB, which is right next door. The WiFi is fast and reliable and all the staff are friendly.

The Hyatt would be fantastic but is too far away from the gay areas.

I don't recognise the "fishbowl" criticism of Ambiance and, I assume, other BT hotels. On the contrary, one of the benefits of staying there is the fact that our visitors are os commonplace that no-one gives  a damn. And to be blunt, BT is not exactly heaving with gawpers- or anyone- these days.

I've not stayed outside BT for twenty years and the main reason is that I don't feel comfortable with straight customers judging me or my partners. Ambiance treats its Thai visitors with respect, whoever they are. I'd be surprised if that is the same elsewhere.

For all my stay in Pattaya I have always stayed at the Ambience. I just felt at home, not to mention that they have a very good resto beside them who can customize the food that I want. Similar to the previous comment, i could really not care less to the people around since I don't know anyone. Although I really look forward to meet some people from this community.

I am a creature of habit! The hotels in BT area have always met my needs.  I never was bothered by any fishbowl effect. I don't care about a pool.  I don't want to take a baht bus to go to the bars.  I don't need to be close to the beach and prefer to take a baht bus ride when I do go. I also prefer being in a hotel which regularly sees guests with a guest with the added bit of security of having them check ids and check with me when someone leaves.

I also have had some good chats with other guests and picked up some great suggestions. Finally, I like the convenience and prefer to walk a short distance from hotel to restaurant to bar to hotel.  To me, any premium in rate is worth the convenience.

But I totally understand others have different preferences. For me, BT area has always worked fine.

wherever I travel I try to say close to the biggest attraction of the place . Since biggest / and for my private use I'd say only / attraction of Pattaya is Boyztown I always stay there in the Le Cafe Royale / because is cheapest /

But for next trip I'm inclined to try Ambiance just for a fun to see if it's any difference.

I'm a regular at the Ambiance and will stay there during my June trip. The only downside is shared BT the other BT hotels is noise long after the official bar closing time. Not good when trying to concentrate on my boyfriend du soir.

Maybe if you embrace tight with the BF under the covers this could reduce the outside noise?

Also  you could mask it with your own noise of  ahhs, ohhs, uhhs,

or deep kissing could disconnect you two from the outside reality?

Also if you find the right position during 69, can you mutually shield your ears with your thighs?

Or rim the boy so that your ears are plugged between his buns.

Thanks Steve for those helpful suggestions. They are certainly attractive, especially the rimming one, but alas none of them would counteract the distraction of some drunk farang belting out "I did it my way" at 3 am. To be fair to the Ambiance they do try to minimise the nuisance by allocating the less affected rooms to guests when they are not full. Thinking back I have stayed there Maybe nine times for an average of a week and the noise nuisance was probably a only small proportion of those nights.

The Ambiance was the first hotel I stayed on my first visit to Thailand, in 2005.  I went to Pattaya straight from the old airport, and I don't remember any noise in the room whatsoever. But I remember all the other things I did with the boy I offed from the bar across the street from the Ambiance.

I had the intention of spending one night in Pattaya during my trip this Songkran, again at the Ambiance in company with the best I could find at BBB,  but I had a good time in BKK and I was too lazy to make the trip.

Best wishes for your trip in June,  and may the boys there make your nights feel like you are in a noiseless heavenly cloud.

a447a, or anyone else who has stayed at the Ambiance recently...

Have they kept up the standards for the room?  Or did you encounter any issues with water supply?

When I stayed there years ago, it was very nice.  But recent, multiple reviews on Trip Advisor are pretty bad.  All mentioning issues with water, room upkeep, stained linens, rude staff,  etc.

Any ideas how is welcome plaza hotel and lek hotel? :D

I stayed at the Welcome Plaza Hotel lat November.

It caters more for the tourist-class visitors - that means, everyone out by 8 am and won't be back till 4-5 pm.

This allows me to laze by the pool in my g-string for most late-mornings.

The location isnt too bad ... a stonethrow from Boyztown and a 10-minutes walk to Central Festival.

Price-wise, it is reasonable and breakfast is included.

I was at Ambiance in February and return in a few weeks. My only complaint is the noise from the open bars- particularly the early morning karaoke which Traveller Dave enjoyed so much. And there's nothing the staff can do about that. I can tell you that the management (and the previous management) hate it....judging by the lack of customers at the bars, so do most of us.

I was there in January and recall a small problem with the hot water but it soon fixed itself.

The cleaning staff go home around 5 (or 4:30, depending on who you talk to) so if you want your room cleaned late in the afternoon you have to tell reception and stay there while they call the cleaners.

The staff were all ok - I found them very friendly.

The noise is a given. I'm not going to complain because young guys want to party and that's exactly what I wanted to do at their age.

The WiFi was good and the food on the terrace is excellent.

I'll stay there again if I decide to spend more time in Boyztown next trip.

May I suggest a way to cut undesired noise that I use, together with eye shades, to sleep well in noisy airports.

Now there are even inexpensive ear buds that seal well in the ear canal to keep outside noise away.  One pair of these, disconnected from any source of audio, make good ear plugs that can be comfortable to use.

I have a pair of expensive ear buds with very good fitting that stopped working, so I cut the cord and use them now as ear plugs.

I was there last October and no issues. Nice place and people and location.

Thanks everyone for the recent reports.  I typically don't put much faith in Trip Adivsor reviews, but with so many of the recent ones having the same theme of issues, I wanted to be re-assured.

I will most likely book my next trip here.  If I run into issues, should be no trouble moving spots in low season anyway.

Cheers.

I stayed at Ambience in 2014 and thought it was a pretty horrific experience. Very noisy and beds were uncomfortable and generally the whole place was in need of refurbishment and upgrading. I think the M Gallery by Sofitel is a much better option - a little priceier but a whole load classier - and any guys you take back to your room will really appreciate that. Also only a short walk from Boyztown. Slightly more expensive but much better value for money.

I've just checked Tripadviser and yes there are several negative reports, but apart from the noise problem I don't recognise the other complaints. Also it's a faily inexpensive hotel with current low season prices starting around 1000 baht. I prefer to stay at hotels known to be gay and I would say that the Ambience has 90% gay guests taking boys to the rooms.

It's rather a maze on the upper floors, being a collection of former joined shop houses with several stairs and one lift. One evening I contacted a boy via GR and he agreed to come. The guy at reception telephoned to say he was there and said he would send the boy up. I got naked and waited for a knock on the door but after 5. Minutes He hadn't arrived. I had to get dressed, leave the room and found him wandering about on a different floor lost. After that I always went down to escort my boyfriends.

I am not really worried about late-night noise at Ambiance. I typically don't sleep until dawn, so it is not really an issue for me ever.

I do need a comfortable bed and decent wifi. And as I will be back in butterfly status, I like the idea of being right in the middle of things and a clerk to check/keep IDs for my guests.

I did chuckle at TravellerDave's story. From my stay years ago I still recall the weird layout of the corridors and room numbers.

I always get them mixed up. I had a friend stay in the opposite side of the Soi from BBB. I thought that place was a dump with rock hard beds . But that's just me!

that would be Copa hotel, I never stay there but took some massages with their  boys and place looked good . May be your friend stay at Serene, one in the corner, that one looks less inviting.
