It seems to me that extreme noise is in the dna of Thais. I’ve been to Isaan several times with boys to their home villages and experienced local calibrations like weddings and always large speakers appear and the music blasts out. I suppose before electricity was available drums were used to produce the noise they love which together with moonshine whisky would lead to a party in contrast to their hard working lives in the rice fields. I've stayed at most of the Complex hotels, particularly at the Zing where the clientele seems to vary from one stay to the next. At one time gays like me predominate, often sitting round the pool with boyfriends, and then on other days it’s crowded with families and str couples. The Poseidon seems to be the only 100% gay hotel where the pool is indoors with an artificial pumped flow of water. I’ve not experienced troubling noise whilst trying to sleep (alone or with a boy) in a Complex hotel room due to them being situated sufficient distance from the bars.

Taiwan looks really great judging by PeterHolland’s pictures, not just for the guys but also the countryside. going back to airfares being a disincentive to travel to Thailand, I’ve being checking the prices for MAN-BKK-MAN in July which seem to be around £1000, which is 50% higher than rates in previous years. This increase is a factor for me as these days I am making 3 trips per year of 2 or 3 weeks duration, but it’s not an overwhelming one. im hesitant to book because I’m unsure as to whether I will enjoy the experience as I did in years gone by, which was that of drinking cold beer with good company in the sunshine and having sex with handsome boys. I suppose it’s getting older that’s the problem or maybe the boys aren’t as good in bed as they used to be. I like the sound of the Philippines having plenty of tops - maybe I should go there. I guess that there are a good number of older gay tourists having the same thoughts about the next holiday.

Whilst I am Pattaya based I often have a day in Bkk when my usual routine would be to have a morning cruise on the river followed by massage and sex in one of the parlours later on. I usually do some research online as to location and what is available, but it’s usually rather hit and miss as to the quality of the massage and then how enjoyable is the sex. These days I’m mostly bottom and 100% that way in the parlours. I want top boys who are well equipped and rock hard when it comes to penetration, and also to be patient when I ask them to slow down. I stayed in the hotel a couple of times pre-Covid for I think for 4/5 days each trip. It’s situated about 300m downhill in a side soi off Thrapraya Road which connects Pattaya and Jomtien. Transport is rather an issue but I had a rented motor scooter which overcame any difficulties. They had a Tuk Tuk which was sometimes available for a lift uphill to the main road. The distance to the Jomtien Complex is rather shorter than to Boyztown so I didn’t find it a problem to walk. At night it was sometimes difficult to stop a baht bus going to Pattaya on the main road as they were often full of passengers. it’s a while ago but my memory has no recollection of anything negative about my rooms and for breakfast sitting by the pool was rather pleasant. In the evenings I remember the restaurent food being pretty good. it is of course a gay hotel and I didn’t see any female guests. I usually had a boy with me overnight. I had to get one of the staff to explain on two occasions to boys from Grindr how to find the place. Guests of course get admission to the sauna and spa (including the dark maze) which opens about 4pm, but I was able to use the small pool with boyfriends during the day.

Very late evening in the vicinity of the Dongtan Gay beach - Jomtien. I’ve not tried it there for years. Also in Pattaya Pratamack Park near the Big Buddha during the evening after the joggers have gone. Can’t vouch for it now.

I have taken boys from Winner in Sunee back to my hotel in the Complex by motor bike taxi “three Up”. A 10 minute blast of night air !

Yes Vessey I think you are right. The remaining gogos are now back to pre-Covid in as far as boy’s dress. They are now back to skimpy shorts or even jocks or g-strings so will feel the cold below say 25c. Better to run the ac to suit the boys, perhaps that way Winner will attract more to work there. The choice was limited when I visited a couple of months ago, but I accept things vary night to night and by the hour. The most attractive lads are sometimes offed before 10.00 pm.

Quite an achievement to stay in business for over 30 years. Few nightspots have lasted that long. I can’t think of a gay bar/gogo. Krazy Dragon in Sunee lasted a long time but is now only a memory.

The accounts of chuck-wow contests takes my memory back to my first visits to Sunee Plaza around year 2001. Marc - sorry that’s a rather clumsy sentence I included in my post. To clarify : 1. I would say the number of sex workers (attractive or not) looking for business in Thai resorts has declined over the years due to better education and more job opportunities in manufacturing or tourism 2. has the attractiveness of Thai Guys declined ?. That’s an interesting question. As to their physical shape I would say probably yes. More consumption of Western food and less physical toil in the rice fields being responsible. As to their outlook on life, probably not. I still find them enjoyable to socialise with and their English language ability has on average improved over the years. Many boys with virtually zero English when commencing their careers in the sex industry make rapid progress and after six months are even able to conduct a conversation. Some ability in English is usually regarded as an asset by their farang customers, as few native English language speakers take the trouble to learn any Thai.

I’ve been visiting Thailand now for more than 20 years as a gay tourist and very much agree that its attractiveness for us has declined over those years. There are no statistics giving the numbers of gays and str but I’m sure the proportion of gays would be now a lot less than previously, which is reflected in the much reduced numbers of bars and gogos and the decline of the Pattaya gay beach. The scandal of under-age sex which surfaced in the years 2000 to 2005 was a major blow to Thai gay tourism and I think it still reverberates. The attractiveness of Thai boys and their availability has reduced considerably due to the availability of other economic options for them. I’ve never been to South America but that might change noting what Boy69 has just said. Before discovering LOS I spent my holidays in Spanish resorts like Playa del Ingles and Benidorm but the experience there was rather different with minimal commercial sex and I was a lot younger and considerably more attractive on the beaches there.

I’ve also seen boys advertising on Grindr and Romeo but have never responded. However over the years of visiting Pattaya I have I very occasionally had two boys in bed with me following “social” situations . Years ago when I stayed in BT I often spent the afternoons on the Dongtan Beach where in those days money boys were often to be found wanting action. Over the years I’ve been visiting Pattaya I’ve visited Koh Samet quite a few times, mostly in company with another gay friend and our respective boyfriends. The easiest way of making the arrangements is to buy a package deal from a travel agent to include transportation, ferry, National park admission and bungalow accommodation. ive never stayed there more than five days but that’s enough to get away from the madness of Pattaya to enjoy clean air and sea. It’s usually better to avoid the weekends which are busier with people from Bkk.

Ryanqqq Reading your reply to my post about visiting Maspalomas. It makes me think about making another visit next rather than going to Pattaya again. I’ve not been there for 21 years but you say that on the excellent beach, Kiosk 7 is still attracting gays as are numerous hotels and apartments near the yumbo centre. The beach at Kiosk 7 was my favorite daytime rendezvous for meeting others. You can be robbed because of your own carelessness. A few years ago I was staying at the Ambience after a short trip to Vietnam from which I had returned with around $200 which I had placed in the room safe. When I first travelled to Pattaya as a gay tourist 21 years ago, I had previously spent holidays on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria specifically at the resort of Maspalomas where nude sunbathing was accepted on one section of the beach which was popular amongst the gay community including myself ( I would say that in those days I definitely had the body for it which is not the case now) During my first visit to Pattaya I discovered the gay Dongtan beach but was disappointed to find that the dress code was beach wear. Making enquirers I found that being naked outdoors was not in the Thai culture, so I never tried it. I did wear a Lycra thong a couple of times on the beach but got quite a few disapproving looks. Even at the Sansuck gay sauna I never saw any nudism round the pool.

I think Forbes circulâtes mainly in North America hence the high ranking of Latin America. if the survey had been conducted in Europe, Spain, Greece and France would have ranked higher. Probably Portugal is top due to them not applying restrictions on length of stay (90 days) should you not have resident status. This rule imposed by the Shengan zone countries has become a big problem for UK expats making their home in France and Spain.
