An Australian boomer retired in Thailand on an $18,000 annual pension
vinapu replied to reader's topic in The Beer Bar
that's harsh and insensitive. Those 'idiots ' are aplenty, they mop your floors , sort your garbage, flip your burgers and mow lawn in your park. Not everybody has parents pushing them through school, quite opposite, pushing them out as soon as they finish basic schooling. Often , instead of taking courses they spent time tending to disabled family members and litany may go on and on. Even if lazy, chances are, they are happier with their lives than people retiring with 5 times as much and constantly losing their sleep because movement of currency or stock prices. With such attitudes , no wonder that they vote for snake oil peddles like Trump and stick to them. Comments like that enforce my long held believe that communism will return and I'm glad I'm too old to see it's resurrection as it won't be pretty. -
Paetongtarn Shinawatra: Thailand’s youngest PM at 37 years old

Looks nice but seems that main primeministerial qualification is family name. Not to much for leading 70 million strong nation whose politics as pit of snakes. Lets wait and see. -

Police fatally shoot armed man outside 'Simply Tomboy'
vinapu replied to reader's topic in The Beer Bar
something here doesn't add up , six shots when one or two would be enough to get message across / On another hand when gun is drawn there's not much time for deliberations about gunner intentions. Such quiet soi, who would think ? But Sherlock Holmes claimed that quiet streets are more dangerous then busy ones because there's nobody to turn to and no witness. -
indeed. I know that one statistic sample is not base for hypothesis but nevertheless in my 33 trips to Thailand only once I felt bit physically threatened and it was by ladyboy ,in broad daylight when I took shortcut toward Big Buddha hill . Nothing happened other then very visible glances over my pockets and few quite invasive questions like " why you are walking alone, where's your friend ? " but it did not make impression of friendly exchange, rather sounded like interrogation, so for my personal use I try to avoid them in rather empty places, day or night

you are genius , gentleman and a scholar. Since I swear in 7 languages I need translation rarely , hence my visible lack of sophistication

be friendly , buy drinks generously but don't over do it and don't miss any possible hints. Guy's suggestion to exchange Line could be one with potential. Behave yourself and be very discreet and you may be rewarded with question ' where's your hotel ?". Do not stay in hotel nearby like Sun and Moon beside or Queenwood across as likely they won't take a risk of being seen If lucky , absolutely don't leave bar with guy, he may tell you where to wait or simply give him direction and he will find you there. They are not supposed to leave bar before end of their shift and I'm privy to a case of one of most attractive guy there who got drunk with customer and left earlier (alone). Was fired subsequently. It's basically the same game like you are attending party and you get a feel that certain guy (or girl) is giving you long looks and you are doing the same. Fact that guy allows you to get a feel my or may not be a hint , it only may be a hint you should tip him something so do not make any assumption. That's true that they generally don't go with customers or at least it's what they convincingly say but it's not monastery and some may be keen on using their assets to generate some cash. " Be discrete " part includes reporting your luck here, boast by any mean but be as little specific as possible so preferably neither guy can not be identified. Speaking from first hand experience.

it surely does, drinks are not that expensive , I think 3.50 - 6 $ so even if one treats say 3 boys with 3 drinks each, together with your own it will be 12 drinks, no more than 50 $ at worst and that ensures whole evening of fun and smiles. Tips are extra but there they don't solicit them. At end of night I usually tip them 5-10 $ depending of how long they were sitting with me and how progressive that sitting was. Most progressive may even get 20$. Again tipping should be done very discretely, I learned that lesson early when one of boy was upset that another boy got the same tip which he thought unfair. None of those involved works there any longer though, judging by pics on Facebook. By the way today they posted on Facebook they are looking for new staff. Not sure that 250-300 is per shift ( he, he ) , week or month and whether is salary or just tip potential. Any idea how to translate that ?, I tried google translate but couldn't find a way of it translating text from picture, getting old is no fun.

Thailand PM faces ousting over controversial appointment
vinapu replied to reader's topic in The Beer Bar
If elected she should make sure her jacket colour matches one of her shoes , otherwise she can be removed by 5 of 9 judges of Constitutional court for offending sensibilities of Thai population. This kind of stupid jokes was reserved for tragi comical nations like Equatorial Guinea , Swaziland, now Eswatini or Central African Empire under Bokassa, now Thailand fits right in. -

I'm very sure both Jomtien and Pattaya Beach must be on that list of 50 as they tick off all those criteria mentioned

problem is that to many we are those ' other people" and better we try to remember that and behave

Thailand PM faces ousting over controversial appointment
vinapu replied to reader's topic in The Beer Bar
Shortly after taking duties he will be removed as somebody spots in Parliament's toilets he wears yellow underwear which be deemed offensive to monarchy and constitutional order. If you think this is stupid or impossible look at what happened in last few weeks -
in my books that is an ultimate praise one can give to a boy, I'm serious.

Thing I hate the most when travelling with other people is when they ask for solution and then immediately propose some contradictory proposal instead doing it in first place. him : " What we are doing now?" ,me ": 'Lets's go to Empire State Building", him : " Why don't we go to see Frick Collection first ? ", this type of exchange

Thailand PM faces ousting over controversial appointment
vinapu replied to reader's topic in The Beer Bar
Shortly countries like Venezuela or Cambodia will look like poster boys of democracy in comparison to Thailand. What's next ?, dissolving whole Parliament because some deputies broke smoking ban in corridors ? -
that's clever
-
that's simple, take half things and twice as much money
-
+1 , I agree. But if you are sitting and drinking there whole evening, buying drinks for boys as well , it doesn't hurt to keep an eye on your tab or ask for bill mid session under pretext you are not sure how much money you have at your disposal. That's is basically applicable to any bar anywhere unless they have system of charging right away.

thanks God for that
