Land in Silom Soi 4 for Sale

Featured Replies

If that is indeed the price, surely it must mean tearing town and erecting one or more high-rise buildings. But the soi is too narrow for any single building over 8 stories. I suspect it has to be for the entire soi and the house at the end so that the soi can be eliminated with just one really big high-rise.

Soi 4 is still for sale on that site. I'd expect the land in this prime location to quickly sell to a developer who could build yet another modern shopping mall (as if there weren't enough of those in Bangkok...). But it's been on the market for four months... I don't know anything about realistic prices in Bangkok, but perhaps the asking price is a bit high, which is why it hasn't sold yet? Let's hope the soi remains the gay hotspot it is for a while longer. I still miss Soi Twilight when I'm in Bangkok, so what if Soi 4 disappears too?

we and scene survived disappearance of soi twilight, and no doubt we and scene will survive that too.

Listing price may be indeed prohibitive signalling that land is for sale but only if right price will come and there's no rush  for a deal.

The family have never been in a rush. I would be driven crazy by needing to drive back down that soi just to get home after a night out, but hey who is paying for the night out, and value is only going to go up.

there are unconfirmed rumors that one of sons is gay and had a tunnel digged out  straight from Jupiter basement to theirs

Could he even be one of the go-go boys? :lolu:

Seriously, with Bangkok 1 open and the new development on the corner of Silom/Convent with @vinapu's second favourite Michelin 7-star restaurant also open, I really wonder if there is sufficient demand for yet more malls, offices, even apartments in that area. In any case, if the land has been up for sale for several months, I imagine potential developers will surely need to get some form of advance planning permission for an acquisition in that area before concluding a deal and putting money down. Can you imagine the blockage on Silom with an endless procession of cement and other construction trucks?

Just noticed this, looks like the land has been listed since March this year.  I know there was some discussion about shops moving out of the soi so just thought would share.

For the price asked and the size is this the entire soi?

Every unit on soi 4 is on an annual lease (renewed every New Year).
The existing leaseholders have been assured that they will be renewed again this year and hopefully some years to come.
For many, many years developers have been interested in the soi and could be seen 'measuring it up'.
One very busy bar has this year moved from the middle of the soi to the end and have extensively renovated their new premises.
Also a new wine bar in the soi.
This all doesn't look to me as if big changes are coming.
Another question in this thread -- the family --yes the family that owns the soi lives in the compound at the gated end of the soi.
and yes, they have a ladyboy son.

as long as Jupiter, Banana Club and G'Bangkok find new home I can live with whatever fate awaits soi 4

Agreed. As long as the various venues can find a new location, it's fine. And hopefully, it's a new location where many gay bars are together and not scattered across the area. Most of the (show/boy) bars that used to be on Soi Twilight have found a new spot in Patpong. But even though they're still together there, the atmosphere is unfortunately nowhere near as good as the old Soi Twilight location. Hopefully, there's a soi in Silom/Patpong where gay venues can gather together and have a good atmosphere. There was a rumor that several gay bars/clubs would open where Moonlight is. I'm curious.

Has anyone been in the new Telephone to report on it? I was in the area 2 weeks ago but didn't bother.

you are not big on community service , are  you ?

As consolation,  admission from me - I was there 2 month ago and did not bother either but noticed some boys sitting in front of venue.

It’s not a bar at all, it’s a late night restaurant with live music. The boys (and girls) bring their customers there to drink when the bars close. There is also a private karaoke room. You may be able to find some bar boys hanging about but no guarantees. Some waiters are not averse to sitting down with customers. But I’ve seen an old farang come in, order some food then storm out after 30 minutes as he wasn’t offered any company.

there was even sign ' we will be going on for some years to come ' which did not even last single year

Here's a photo of the banner that was at the Surawong end of Soi Twilight, shortly before the entire soi closed.  They predicted 6 years longer, but as @vinapu said, they didn't last even one year after that sign went up.

In the center of the photo, you can see the lighted sign for New Banana Bar, which was the first bar on the right side of the soi.

One of the sons is certainly gay, even a lady boy.
Could be seen daily coming home from work early eveningish.  Looking like a cosmetics counter assistant.
