The first 24 hours have gone by and this city has not disappointed. As expected, I made all of these plans and did all this research and then just ended up improvising on my first night. This experience is so overwhelming. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be living here within a year.
I arrived at midnight and hastily made my way to immigration to try not to get in the back of the line. It didn't matter much. The line was about 15 minutes at the most. After two days of trying to sleep on airplanes and getting maybe two hours combined in 10 minute increments, I got into my Airbnb at 2 AM. I was so wired and excited I still ended up taking a walk around the neighborhood. I knew I would feel safe and I did even at 4 AM in the middle of the week. There were street markets at that hour... that blew me away.
I walked around this afternoon and got introduced to the massage scene. After doing a few laps around Si Lom, I ended up at 19 massage. Kit was my choice. Excellent massage the extras were OK. I'm a pretty easy customer in that. I don't go the full way with escorts or the like. Room charge was 700. I tipped him 1000 which probably was excessive. I have an appointment tomorrow at Ssence with Kairo.

Short trip report for Tokyo and Osaka.
Tokyo
I tried Chance in Shinjuku-okubo to see a guy I have had my sights set on since I started planning my trip. The Chance reservation system worked well and the meeting point i was given was a small residential alley where i had to call the number provided for him to come out and fetch me. I will say the location wasn't the easiest, I was a little late because i got lost transferring in Shinjuku station then trying to find the right alley. 
The guy was great, friendly and exactly as pictured (he does porn so i already knew). The condom he had for me didn't fit but i had my own, decent bottom after some initial difficulty. It seems he has since left the store, so I was lucky to have got my top pick just in time. I wish i did a second reservation, I have a feeling he would have been even better the second time after we'd got more accustomed to each other.
Next up was DG located in Shinjuku, the location for DG was easier, still i was directed to the meeting spot via email then asked to call the number to be fetched. Easy enough, wait by the address and call for someone to collect me, but if i didn't have international calling on my phone I'd suggest getting there a bit earlier to email and wait.
The building I was walked around the corner to was the DG's dedicated shop, and i guess the guy didn't realise i had a reservation because he was about to call the guys in for me to pick. After that was cleared up the guy came in, he was a little different from his pictures but not by much, so not a big problem. He had almost no english, but we didn't need it. 
I didn't try any other services in Tokyo, I got a few guys from Grindr but catfished more often than not with edited or not accurate pics. The worst was a guy I waited an hour for, then he showed up and I was really regretting my decision. We got in the lift with an airline pilot as I died a little inside and sheepishly walked this creature I just invited back to my room out of the lift. I really should have just left him in the lobby, but i let him blow me then said it's time to leave. Thankfully I had a prescription of DoxyPEP, who knows what that mouth had in it.
I wish I had planned my days a bit better and made more reservations with some other services, but now I know for next time.

I still use the Queen Victoria Hotel on Soi 6 for part of my holidays, in fact I have been staying there for the last 16 years, usually in a balcony room over looking the soi itself. It used to be joked that if Walking Street was the beating heart of Pattaya, then Soi 6 was its pussy! Around 60 girly bars, always fairly busy, even in Low Season, and packed to near capacity in High Season.
But maybe ten years ago its popularity and future looked uncertain. It was a place of (en)closed bars with short-time rooms convenienlty above the bars; the bulk of its customers middle-aged to elderly white farang from Europe and the West.
Then a renaissance started to take place just over ten years ago, spearheaded by the NightWish Group (who now own 20+ of the bars), opening up the front of the bars, bringing in farang managers, and encouraging a younger crowd of customers from more diverse backgrounds. The focus became more on partying, with bells ringing up and down the Soi, but still with girls up and down the stairs to the short-time rooms with their customers. It discovered a new vibrancy, that I still feel infectious, even though the girls themselves hold little interest for me these days.
More crucially perhaps, that renaissance was accompanied by intensive publicity campaigns. For example, bars would daily line-up their girls outside the bars most days for pictures that would be on each bars Facebook groups. There were even opportunities, for example, for those abroad to buy lady-drinks online for their favourites with video links, etc. Such initiatives clearly succeeded as the numbers of vistors rose again, the bars thrived, the girls earned money and a younger demographic of customers spent their time and money there.
Elsewhere, the girly bars across LKMetro, Buakhao, TreeTown, etc, also thrive, even in Low Season.
On our side of the fence, I have watched in frustration as Sunee Plaza has slowly died away; Boyztown is now a shadow of its once vibrant past. Only Jomtien Complex still does reasonably well, and consequently I spend increasing amounts of my holiday time staying at the Zing Hotel there. But the bars are still heavily populated by aging ex-Pats, drawn by its boys and far cheaper beer prices. However, I am not sure that actual tourist numbers are particularly great, and most bars seem pretty useless in promoting themselves to the wider gay world, particularly to the younger gay world. At 72 I am one of the younger, fitter ones; I haven't actually seen Zimmer Frames in use, but quite a few customers look close to needing one! Haha
Selfishly low season suits me; lots of baht-hungry boys surprisingly anxious to spend bedroom time with an old fart like me. But long-term the slow decline is in evidence even here; and basically, IMHO, its our own fault! Places like the Complex still have so much to offer the gay sex tourist, we just need to encourage them (discuss! hahaha).

it's why I always stick to my mantra that all i need is one bar and one boys in it , as long as said boy meets specifications

every year since i've been coming to thailand i hear 'this is the worst ever low season' then 'this is the lowest ever high season', even in a packed bar in high season making small talk with a guy the response to 'how is business' is always 'no customer'.

I tried Chance in Shinjuku-okubo to see a guy I have had my sights set on since I started planning my trip. The Chance reservation system worked well and the meeting point i was given was a small residential alley where i had to call the number provided for him to come out and fetch me. I will say the location wasn't the easiest, I was a little late because i got lost transferring in Shinjuku station then trying to find the right alley. 
The guy was great, friendly and exactly as pictured (he does porn so i already knew). The condom he had for me didn't fit but i had my own, decent bottom after some initial difficulty. It seems he has since left the store, so I was lucky to have got my top pick just in time. I wish i did a second reservation, I have a feeling he would have been even better the second time after we'd got more accustomed to each other.

I didn't try any other services in Tokyo, I got a few guys from Grindr but catfished more often than not with edited or not accurate pics. The worst was a guy I waited an hour for, then he showed up and I was really regretting my decision. We got in the lift with an airline pilot as I died a little inside and sheepishly walked this creature I just invited back to my room out of the lift. I really should have just left him in the lobby, but i let him blow me then said it's time to leave. Thankfully I had a prescription of DoxyPEP, who knows what that mouth had in it.
I wish I had planned my days a bit better and made more reservations with some other services, but now I know for next time.

I came across this recent vdo this morning with three popular youtube guys discussing their favourite gay saunas in Asia. While sauna going is a matter of individual preference, these guys agreed that top of their list is Adam (Nadam) Spa in Ho Chi Minh City. This is followed closely by three in  Bangkok - Sauna Mania, MaxWell Spa and Ensen Onsen. In Taipei they rather dismiss the popular Soi13 purely because of it entry price for foreigners (around NT$1,000 - approx. US$32) and have a sort of general preference for the new Hans Mens Sauna. In Tokyo they feel 24 Kaikan in Tokyo has become a bit dated. The two main guys have more similar vdos on the net.

I tried Chance in Shinjuku-okubo to see a guy I have had my sights set on since I started planning my trip. The Chance reservation system worked well and the meeting point i was given was a small residential alley where i had to call the number provided for him to come out and fetch me. I will say the location wasn't the easiest, I was a little late because i got lost transferring in Shinjuku station then trying to find the right alley. 
The guy was great, friendly and exactly as pictured (he does porn so i already knew). The condom he had for me didn't fit but i had my own, decent bottom after some initial difficulty. It seems he has since left the store, so I was lucky to have got my top pick just in time. I wish i did a second reservation, I have a feeling he would have been even better the second time after we'd got more accustomed to each other.
Next up was DG located in Shinjuku, the location for DG was easier, still i was directed to the meeting spot via email then asked to call the number to be fetched. Easy enough, wait by the address and call for someone to collect me, but if i didn't have international calling on my phone I'd suggest getting there a bit earlier to email and wait.
The building I was walked around the corner to was the DG's dedicated shop, and i guess the guy didn't realise i had a reservation because he was about to call the guys in for me to pick. After that was cleared up the guy came in, he was a little different from his pictures but not by much, so not a big problem. He had almost no english, but we didn't need it. 
I didn't try any other services in Tokyo, I got a few guys from Grindr but catfished more often than not with edited or not accurate pics. The worst was a guy I waited an hour for, then he showed up and I was really regretting my decision. We got in the lift with an airline pilot as I died a little inside and sheepishly walked this creature I just invited back to my room out of the lift. I really should have just left him in the lobby, but i let him blow me then said it's time to leave. Thankfully I had a prescription of DoxyPEP, who knows what that mouth had in it.
I wish I had planned my days a bit better and made more reservations with some other services, but now I know for next time.

For a veteran of these services, I had an interesting day of firsts yesterday. I'll just note them with a "(1st)", lol.
I was trying Salon-Imaike for the first time - they look to have branches all over Japan but not many boys at each.
I initially tried to book Ryoma but they said "Ryoma-kun cannot accommodate customers of foreign nationality." 🤔 (1st). I didn't push for a clarification and went with Hikaru instead. 
When I arrived at the meeting spot, I was picked up by another boy, who assumed I was his client, and we went all the way to the room before we realized the mix-up, lol (1st). I had thought he was just bringing me to Hikaru. 🙈

Was in Japan earlier this month and hired one guy from Chance Shinjuku (one of several outlets in Tokyo) and two guys on separate occasions from Chance Osaka. I can recommend this agency as the overall experience was very good:
- I booked through the website and follow up was by email whereas I wrote in English and replies were in Japanese with English translation. No issues at all with very swift replies and clear instructions.
- The guys looked very similar to the pictures on the website. Only exception is that the face skin was a bit photoshopped in the pictures, but that is very common also on the apps these days in Asia and their skin was not bad. 
- The guys were very nice, good/experienced in what they are doing and clearly wanted to please.
- The fees requested were exactly as posted on the website with payment in cash to the guys. The fees are quite modest compared to other developed countries. As such and taking into account the good service I gave an extra tip to the guys which they refused at first but then happily accepted.
- Only one out of the three guys spoke some English, communication with the other two was by translation through mobile phone which worked fine as the idea was not to discuss world politics anyway :-) In the booking process you are asked to indicate your preferences (top/bottom/flip), so the guys knew already how things will turn out...
I don't have any experience with other agencies so can't compare, but would definitely use Chance again.

This topic has generated a lot of well-considered and thoughtful responses, articulating sometimes differing points of view, and, therefore I would like to modify/amplify some of my earlier comments.
I accept there is a difference between bar owners and owners of other gay-related businesses trying to promote themselves, and the bloggers/you-tubers etec who walk up and down with their cameras recording, for example, people walking around the Jomtien Complex, or sitting inside the open bars etc. 
We might like to think of gay-bar owners naturally wanting to promote themselves using whatever social media is available to them in order to create more business both from those potential customers actually living-in or currently visiting Pattaya, and perhaps also those perhaps considering their first visit. But as we know most prove very poor at it, and with Thai owners/managers, language may still be a practical inhibitor. 
IMHO, currently the best and most prolific promotors are the major karaoke bars and massage shops that pump out stills/clips/live from their premises focussing on the many handsome boys currently on their staff, smiling, and waving at the camera as it passes. (Line groups from some of the BKK Massage/Sauna businesses are FAR more explicit in showing you exactly what each boy has to offer!) But, most of it is fully in Thai, captions, commentary, names, etc; we farang might be welcomed (more or less), but we are clearly not their target audience.
I daily check out three Pattaya forums (I am Bi, I hasten to add); Pattaya Addicts (where I have been part of their Mod Team for the last 15 years), the Ladyboy Forum, and this one; I love all three in different measure.
Of the three, this forum is by far the smallest, and also seems the most restrictive in terms of pictures, particularly pictures of the boys and the bars, (even when they are promotional pictures). For example, I can tell you that I met this really great lad in Bar X last night, who was also amazing in the room and I paid him x baht for his troubles. But currently I can't show you his picture (even fully clothed), or tell you his name, let alone share contact details (even when it is available on Hornet or similar). I understand the thinking behind that, and respect that (although its why I dont publish trip reports here any more), but it is in marked contrast to what regularly goes on on the other two forums.
Traffic on this forum would be even smaller if we cut out all the unashamedly political posts; 50% of daily traffic here currently seems Trump related! 🤣. (By contrast PA bans any political posts completely.)
I say all this by way of observation, and to support the probability that our activities and posts currently make very little difference to daily foot traffic across the gay bars of Pattaya; their fate lies pretty much entirely in their own hands, and so I do congratulate bar owners, like Charlie in Jomtien Complex, who do make efforts to promote themselves, their bars and their boys. His posts and video clips are what first got me into his bars. They are great fun in so many ways; I would show you if I could! 🤣

After my guy and I woke up and had morning sex, we headed downstairs for breakfast. Good spread of food - Asian, Western, Japanese. And good quality as well. So 7 of us in total walked noisily to H.i.M. bar which used to be known as Sky Bar. The two biggest karaoke rooms had been pre-booked by other customers so we were ushered to a normal size room. Smaller but the sofa was stil long enough to seat 8 people  and there were two long tables for food and drinks. Every room also had an en suite toilet so all our needs were met.
In December, I had karaoke with  Myanmar guys. Tonight it was with Vietnam guys so all Vietnamese songs. 3 hours of singing and drinking. Bill was close to 8k baht. We started at about 10.45pm and ended at 1.30am. Forum member came and watched for a while. First time at karaoke for him. When karaoke was over, one of the guys went off to meet his girlfriend, three guys went to another bar to continue drinking while I went back to Voco Hotel with my guy and we would stay together for the next two nights until Sunday morning.
