I spend most of my time in Rio these days with a certain 29 year old. He is gorgeous and, yes, if you add 7 and divide by 2 he is “age appropriate” (just barely) for me but the point of this story is that although I don’t look like Baron von Harkonnen or anything like that, I am definitely not in his league and there is zero chance of Rhyheim approaching me on Ipanema Beach and asking me to work for him but, again, I digress…. The point of this story is that we sometimes play on Grindr together and it has become a bit of a joke between us that it rarely works out. He pursues tall, usually white, moderately fit guys that usually have some facial hair and are older than him. I usually peruse non-white guys with a lean muscular build that are younger than me. And, yes, on multiple occasions, I have found someone that I am into on Grindr and that is into me but then goes cold when I send a picture of my friend and suggest that we all get together. When I am no longer working as a _______ for _________, I want to study human attraction. I have a theory that most people are wired to want to fuck someone that looks different than themselves, probably for evolutionary purposes. I will ponder this further after I arrive in Rio next week.

This is somewhat off topic but I’m killing time in an airport so I would just like to point out that there is a spectrum here. On my first trip to Brazil I met a very attractive guy on Grindr that was in his early 20’s. I would have been in my late 30’s at the time. I told Cute-Grindr-garoto that he was gorgeous. Cute-Grindr-garoto told me he wanted to practice speaking English with me which we agreed to do in my hotel room. Not being an idiot and having read this forum before my trip, I fully expected that cute-Grindr-garoto wanted more than he said (which I would have been fine with) but, no, he really wanted to practice speaking English which we did before and after I fucked him on multiple occasions. I think he found me somewhere between “not repulsive” and “somewhat attractive” but there was no way I was in his league. He really was looking to practice speaking English. There have also been many temporary Grindr friends that were equally (if not more) interested in taking pictures of themselves from the rooftop of my hotel to post on Instagram than they were in me. Anyway, the point of this post is people fuck for all kinds of different reasons not just for reais or pesos or because they truly love the other person.

So, I’ve never been to the DR but I have been to Brazil many, many, many times. I’m also much more a fan of the complete model like package rather than any one particular part of the package…. Am I going to be disappointed if I visit the DR? I would like to visit someplace new and am considering a trip the the DR.

Yes, I’ve had whelming experiences in Bangkok’s gay saunas. Saunas in Europe or the USA or Saigon are better in my opinion but Thailand does have gorgeous beaches and I was hoping one of them might function as an outdoor gay sauna similar to Abrico Beach in Rio de Janeiro but, as I suspected, that doesn’t sound like it’s the case.

Everything I know about Thailand suggests the answer to this question is ‘no’ but I’m going to ask anyway. Does Thailand have any nude beaches? If so, are any of them gay oriented with cruising?

And what exactly is wrong with smoking and staring at the ocean? I find that it is best if you do it at sunset with a partner and a caipirinha.

Let’s say you were less interested in length/girth and more interested in a body that looked something like the attached. Also, I enjoy bottoming but like to top as well. Does the DR have anything for me? I’ve never been. If it matters, I don’t speak Spanish.

Grindr is as safe in Brazil as it is anywhere; plus, Brazilians are friendly and usually like foreigners so it works very very well. It sounds like you found what you were looking for though so I’d understand if you stick with the good thing you have in Colombia. The occasional slutty trip to Abrico Beach or whatever can be fun but I’m not really a fan of constant random dick either. Chiseled abs are nice but having something to talk about after the fluids have been exchanged is better. Actually getting to know the person you are fucking leads to authentic experiences that cannot be bought like sitting on the beach together and watching the sun rise.

Just curious, have you tried using Grindr like this in Brazil too or do you only travel to Colombia? Certain aspects of what you’re doing is a major part of how I fell in love with Rio.

For what it is worth (not much) I would just like to say that I met a Vietnamese guy on Grindr during my last trip to Bangkok. He was kind of amazing and we still chat periodically. Also, if you like gay saunas, Nadam Spa in HCMC is among the best anywhere and filled with hot Vietnamese guys that were generally agreeable to doing things with this non-Vietnamese guy when I was there in January. The food in Vietnam is also incredible. I should probably apologize for this stream-of-consciousness-ish post but I feel like someone has to stick up for Vietnam. Especially with country itself, I’ve had nothing but great experiences. The gay scene and sex aren’t in your face all the time as is frequently the case in Bangkok but for those that are looking, it’s certainly available.

So, after an initial flurry of communication, I fell out of touch with the guy that caused me to start this post - mainly because I have no real plans to travel to Bangkok again until sometime early next year - but today I saw an advertisement for Gass BKK featuring him. Yeah, I never much understood why society prizes virginity. I’d much rather be with someone that has a bit of experience and knows what they are doing.

Cute and to each their own but my general experience with the, say, under 21-crowd is that they are clueless both in general and in bed. A bit of experience is a good thing. I certainly did not have many of the talents/abilities that I have now when I was “over 18”. It takes a while to figure out what you like and what you like to do with other people.

The thought that was going through my head is that the experience I am having with this particular guy is similar to experiences I have had with guys from Brazil but never really with someone from Thailand before. I do agree with you about “content” too though. He is very comfortable being photographed which is again typical of Brazil but not Thailand (or it wasn’t when I last spent any real amount of time there) but also typical of those that grew up with social media and smart phones. My recollection of Bangkok contains memories of guys that should have no body image issues whatsoever (and in some cases had been on stage in their underwear shortly before) darting under the covers to avoid standing naked for any amount of time in the hotel room. Update: As I was writing this I just asked him how old he is and he said 29. He looks younger. I was expecting 23 or 25. I am not sure that changes anything other than that if you apply the one-half plus seven rule, he is just barely age appropriate for me but whatever. I don’t have any plans to go to Thailand any time soon anyway.

While doom scrolling earlier this week, X showed me a picture of a guy that looked like the identical twin of my first boyfriend from more than 20 years ago. Well, identical except for a paw print tattooed on his ass which is both kind of odd and kind of hot all at the same time but I digress…. His IG profile was linked so I messaged him there and basically said I thought he was hot and that he reminded me of someone I used to know. A day later he wrote back and we have been chatting ever since. His English is excellent and, yes, he “makes content” but also has a science/engineering day job in Bangkok and is genuinely interesting. I am in my early-40’s now and have not spent much time in Bangkok recently but did use to travel there somewhat regularly 10 or 15 years ago so I know how the place works and, well, this is not what I remember. Is this a thing that happens in Bangkok now? Have others had a similar experience? Did Thailand start taking lessons from Brazil recently?

Has anyone been to this sauna? The sauna’s IG advertises “boy interativo”? A large, clean, good gay sauna similar to steamworks in Chicago opening in Rio and filled with hot Rio guys before I am completely aged-out of that scene would be amazing.

Yeah, this forum is definitely not what it used to be which is a shame because I definitely prefer Brazil to the other side of the world. In fact, I don’t even understand how someone could like the other side of the world better. I am headed to Bangkok for a few days though soon so perhaps I should check in over there. I have no comment on anything else other than to say that it would be nice if the members of this board would expend their energy writing about their actual experiences in Brazil rather than whatever this is.
