You've probably already been and left, but I don't think the Japanese government has the resources to check every address of every person visiting Japan. I've gone and moved around the country, changed Airbnbs, etc., but none of that was reflected on my immigration form. I would just put any hotel. They won't check. I think they'd only refer to that if there were a problem and they needed to find you.

I stayed at the Apa hotel in Ginza and Tokyu Stay in Nishishinjuku and didn't have any problems. There was a sign at the Apa saying unregistered guests were not permitted, but I just met my friends outside and then walked in with them and got on the elevator together - people at the desk were always too busy to notice. Same in Kyoto - no problem. Last time I had an Airbnb and again, no issues with guests (though some Airbnb listings make a point of saying no guests and making it sound pretty scary if you break the rule). I think there may be issues in some hotels and Airbnbs, but not all. I doubt any hotels will say they are "guest-friendly".

I didn't have any issues in the two Airbnbs I stayed in on my last trip, but from what I recall, they do have "no guest" policies. I think I passed over a few because they threatened fines or eviction if the policy was violated, so read the rules carefully. I think they are probably especially vigilant around Kabukicho and Shin-Okubo areas. Most of the agencies have a room you can use for a nominal fee.
