You can get everywhere in ATMs Riel, you can pay everywhere in usd. I actually liked usd more, i was not familiar with Riel notes and values. Currency exchange rate loss is minimal, but I think in one Chinese place I got wrong change in Riel. Bring one dollar notes too!

SUNDAY AT THE SAUNA
So no towels today, just the flannel, but as we were leaving at around 8pm the lad doing the lockers was putting in full size towels for business tomorrow.
So it seems weekends are naked days and weekdays you get a towel. Quite possibly for saving money on a busy weekend with laundry...... 
I suppose I could have asked.....
Beer and fruit today along with the iced water.
I also discovered they have a fine sample of poppers on sale. 
It was very busy today with a good mix of age race and body shape.
Some delicious specimens on offer, I had a very enjoyable time as did hubby.
One very beautiful young man wasn't at all fussy who had a pop at him so that saved me three million vnd.  
Of particular note, a very nice vietnam chap, I guess 35ish, short, buff as fuck, pecks to die for, 'forced' me to lick his chest and his very defined V while he stood in front of me in the steam room as I sat in the dark while the nice looking chap on my left decided my cock was nice enough for him to investigate. 
Delicious.  Buff chap wanted me to go to a room with him but I politely declined. I'm there to satisfy my lust, not anyone else's. 
Of note, as I sat on a flat sofa bed thing in the darker room, an overhead fan provided much needed cooling relief, as did I to the two asian daddies fucking right next to me as I sat there, I provided my right shoulder to the bottom for his left leg to rest on, making it easier for him to lay back and let the top to do what he was doing.

This was mentioned in both books you recommended to me.  The people in general are resistant to change.  I can see this even in Cam's family.  If his father had his way, they would have replaced the old, rotten, termite infested fence with another wood fence that would eventually become rotten and termite infested again.  However, at Cam's insistence they are using steel rods, cement and brick.  Regarding the new house, his father said he did not want the bathroom inside the house, but again, Cam and his siblings have all said that is not an option.  If his father insists on the bathroom outside, there will be two bathrooms...one inside for the family and one outside for father.  lol.  I try to be supportive of Cam and his siblings and remind them that in the future the house will belong to one of them.  Would they want a new, modern house without an indoor bathroom?  When posed to them that way, they all agreed with Cam that the bathroom would be inside the house.  His parents remind me of the old expression...you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.  lol.

Well, it is with mixed emotions that I begin to wrap up this unusual trip report.  Unusual in that it did not include details about visits to bars or massage shops or other such escapades.  I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this three month adventure with Cam, but it has turned out to be an amazing experience.  Staying away from Silom was a good decision for us both.  I suppose to some our time together will appear as somewhat mundane and boring.  We have simply enjoyed the time together as a couple.   We have had some interesting, in depth conversations about politics in Cambodia, about our families, about life in general, and about hopes and dreams for the future.  It was fun to venture outside of Bangkok to Pattaya and Chiang Mai for a change of scenery.  We enjoyed cooking meals together, trying new restaurants, going shopping at the various malls…and even playing snooker with his friends.  Having us get sick at different times was a learning experience for us both, but we managed to survive even that.  While I am sad that the time has come for us to temporarily go our separate ways, there is also a sense of peace and calmness this time.  I am confident that our feelings for each other are strong and genuine.  After spending so much time together over the last three months, the next eight weeks apart will be a bit of a challenge, but not nearly as stressful as the separation was between the first of April and my return in May.  My journey back to Denver begins the evening of July 8 with layovers in Taipei and San Francisco.  I will eventually arrive home sometime around noon on July 9.  Cam departs for Cambodia on July 10.  Since he has no plans to return to Thailand as of now, he will have one last night out with his bar friends and one last night out with his snooker pals.  While I do not know all of the specifics, there is an individual that runs private car service from Bangkok to the border area with Cambodia that is safe to cross.  The drive takes around four hours and they travel at night.  He will have to walk the last 100 meters or so across the border with his belongings.  Once in Cambodia, there are others there waiting who are willing to provide transportation from there to his hometown.  Of course, all of this will require payment for the two drivers of approximately 7000 Baht total.  The drive from the border to his hometown will be about one hour.
Surprisingly, airfares for the trip to Siem Reap were much better than I expected given the current situation in the Middle East.  In fact, I just received notice that there was a price drop of $150 USD so the fare was adjusted accordingly (yes, I did the guarantee).  Depart Denver on September 3, once again connecting in San Francisco.  Will have that long flight again to Singapore, then on to Siem Reap arriving on September 5.  Will spend the first week in Siem Reap before moving to Battambang for the remainder of the trip, although we might go back to Siem Reap a few days before my return trip to US is scheduled on December 2.  That is yet to be determined.  Airbnb is secured in both locations.  Will probably start posting in the Cambodian forum, although it doesn’t seem to be very active.  Not sure how effective or helpful that will be.  Hopefully people will respond.  I already have a few questions to post.

He will help his father on the family farm, and wants to expand that beyond rice and sesame seeds to raise goats and turtles.  He also plans to work construction with his brother.  He has done a fair amount of research about raising turtles and showed me what is involved.  Compared to other things, it isn't too expensive or complicated.  I know a little about goats and can help with that.  For years I took my students to a goat farm once a week to work as vocational training and learned a considerable amount of what is involved.  His oldest sister and her husband have a shop...small market; his middle sister has a food cart; the youngest sister is a seamstress.  He has helped them all over the years so can certainly be kept busy.

I haven't insulted any country or any opinion posted on this blog. 
Referring to my post about my (only) one-week February trip to Ghana, I clearly stated that I am not an expert, and that all my posts are solely based on biased experiences. That said, I genually do believe that the majority of people on this blog are looking for exciting gay encounters and that you find those best in the more closeted countries. Having lived in Egypt myself for three years, I am convinced that the sheer number of (sexual) encounters to be found there is directrly linked to their conservatrive gender-divided culture. 
You definitely should question what you read online, yet let me be clear: making up stories as a 42-year old curious man on a 'travel blog' would be the lowest humanity could fall.

When I asked my friend in Phnom Penh, an upper middle class student, about politics, a very friendly guy turned into a spitting 🐍 🙂. He refused to talk about that and never have I asked after. So I bought the books.
Emotions aside, the country is kind of neofeudal, which I think is challenging if you come from the rule-of-law society. My friend is actually escapist in his mind, which I also understand. Young educated (education is relatively new thing there) suspect there are alternatives, but is it reachable? Country is led by half crazy old autocrat and his gang currently.

My immediate reaction was: surely, there is really no one formula? I had to reread what @jamiebee wrote about his pre-planning to understand what you're referring to, and I think it's fairly similar to what I myself would do (except for the eye-popping obligation to buy gifts - do you have to pay for excess baggage to lug them home?) and I think some others would do too: have a list of places I would want to check out each trip.
There can't be a single formula because our objectives may differ. You refer to sex; sure, it's a big part of fun, but each of us has other objectives and priorities too, e.g. @jason1975. And then there is the question of how much time one has. Some visitors have the luxury of several weeks and they can (and maybe should) slow down. Others are only able to squeeze in a week or less of holiday time from work.
Let me give you an example: Those who have read some of my blogposts may suspect that for me, it isn't just a simple question of looking for great sex. A big part of the fun I have is to check out places -- within a sensible budget of course, so Capella is out of the running -- to answer the question: "How do these fools manage to run a business?" Once it's framed like that, you'll understand for example why hiring from apps doesn't interest me. It is as much the business that I am interested in as the boy. I know that few others would have such a priority; we're all different. And also in my case, I can (can, not always) find a disastrously bad experience to be very interesting from an observational and analytical point of view. Money badly spent no doubt, but we'll chalk it up to the cost of acquiring knowledge.... about all the things that can go wrong.
- water supply cut off (you'll be surprised how often this happens);
- filipino massage boy in Manila who asks me to recommend an Australian girl he could marry so he could migrate (talk about a mood-killer!)
-  mosquitoes in the massage room... and so on.
I feel for those who are very focussed on scoring great sex. I see posts from them on this board every now and then asking for recommendations; they're hoping for tried and tested service providers who are less likely to disappoint. It reaches its apogee among those who absolutely must have colossal dongs. Unlike businesses for which a to-check-out list can be compiled by careful desk research prior to a visit, folks who are laser-focussed on getting mindblowing sex and/or mammoth manhoods have much less public information to go by.

Both books end with a hope that maybe the young generation could make Cambodia a better place. And indeed its a very youthful country. My young friend complained he has limited access to the older gay guys.

One idea for your time in US. Read a few books about Cambodia, they will reveal some insights about the society. Realism is good when you plan to stay there longer and create (join) a family. Both books end with a hope that maybe the young generation could make Cambodia a better place. And indeed its a very youthful country. My young friend complained he has limited access to the older gay guys.

For what it is worth (not much) I would just like to say that I met a Vietnamese guy on Grindr during my last trip to Bangkok.  He was kind of amazing and we still chat periodically.  Also, if you like gay saunas, Nadam Spa in HCMC is among the best anywhere and filled with hot Vietnamese guys that were generally agreeable to doing things with this non-Vietnamese guy when I was there in January.  The food in Vietnam is also incredible.
I should probably apologize for this stream-of-consciousness-ish post but I feel like someone has to stick up for Vietnam.  Especially with country itself, I’ve had nothing but great experiences.  The gay scene and sex aren’t in your face all the time as is frequently the case in Bangkok but for those that are looking, it’s certainly available.

Last year I met a student from Rwanda in China. He was tall educated and sexy guy. He said Rwanda is quiet and pleasant, very clean country. Showed me photos his family trekking etc.
