Just a tip to those that are looking at pictures from the Line account of Jey. You will see the designations GV, MT, GT, MV. They stand for Gay Versatile, Man Top, Gay Top and Male Versatile. Male in this context means straight. The versatiles are not always as versatile as advertised though… and mamasan will sometimes give a more accurate description when you book.

My sense is that that's not the "numerology" that he laments has disappeared. What he is saying is that on the Thailand board we do not discuss the attributes and service quality of specific boys (based on their bar name and tag numbers), but that we are too coy (some would say polite/ considerate/ respectful) to do so.

Gotcha I was just remarking how different it was not being able to see anything from the street.  Most of these places have the guys sitting outside or within easy view from outside of guys in the lobby.  I wouldn't have been able to participate regardless with my dude right there. My July trip was entirely owing to spoon telling me about his plans  as I was thinking about Aug/Sept time 9i.e. right now ) but when I learned about his  plans I booked tickets month or so earlier . And most definitely I'm glad I did  and we had tons of fun and were happy you decided to see us ( and a a side business your guy as well )  at the same time .

Wednesday night update...

I don't think there's going to be any bar time tonight.  My Grindr guy and I are still going strong... I mean it's almost a week.  I can't remember the last time a guy's been in my life for a week.  Let alone one where I don't have to hit the ATM.  Don't know what he sees in this old bag o' bones, but it's been nice.  He's from Tokyo so tonight I found one of those Japanese spots where you cook your own meats at the table.  He loved it.  Owner was from Japan so they got to speak in their native.  When we got back to my Airbnb, even though we were full as hell, we burned some calories.
So it's 10pm now. He has to teach in the morning so he's in the Grab on the way home.  Me... I'm sitting here trying to encourage myself to go out and expand my now infamous rankings. But it might have to be put on hold until I get back from Pattaya.  I'm beat.

BTW the restaurant is "Tokyo Beef."  Well worth trying.  And it's near Senso.  I haven't been there yet.  Was odd to see a gay massage place with no boys out front.  I definitely wanted to pop my head in, but yeah, he doesn't know about that part of my visit so we kept walking.

As to how such gatherings are arranged, I would say @vinapu presence does draw forum members together.
They might even reschedule their trips so that they can meet Esteemed Forum Member.
Many active forum members are acquainted with @vinapu either via forum personal message and through Line and Whatapp and we share with him our arrival dates.
Since he knows who's in Bangkok at same time, he's able to suggest dinner gathering and he's been generous to welcome everyone, even newcomers to the forum.

Home base will always be the US. This isn't some rash decision or one based on the go go bars.  My plan is to live in a new country every 2 years with maybe 6 month buffers in the US between each move.  The purpose of this trip was to see if there's anything that jumps out at me that I don't like.  I thought I'd hate the heat/humidity.  Or I thought there's be really bad air pollution.  My big things are a good healthcare system, quality of life, affordability.  That's why Chiang Mai is my gut on where I'll probably choose to unpack a few suitcases.

Other countries I plan to spend a year or two in... Colombia (been there a dozen times now), Germany, Portugal and maybe Costa Rica.  

But rest assured, this isn't a "wow these bars are awesome I should move here" kind of thing.

haha you're adorable and I appreciate your concern... but the moving here ZERO to do with the scene.   This has been researched to death over the past year... studying the health care system, quality of life, neighborhoods, etc.  I am posting so much about the bars and clubs only because it's what the message board is about.  But the go go bars, massage parlors, etc... zero influence on this decision.

Most active forum members come to Bangkok at least once a year.
Some come twice or thrice a year.
Everyone has his own specific dates to visit depending on his own work / family situation.
Sometimes the trips of a few forum members happen to overlap so we arrange to meet for dinner and visit to bars.
To answer your question, there is no annual gathering with a fixed date for get together.

You've only been in Thailand a few days and thus far have had limited interactions with prostitutes (most of whom aren't even Thai these days) and stayed in the red light district of Bangkok. You don't know the food, the language, the culture and eat at McDonald's. It took me years to learn the language, not only to understand, but also appreciate the culture and I live an hour's drive from the nearest Thai border!  You've been in a soap bubble of debauchery and soap bubbles tend to burst very quickly.

funny thing, My first 5 most favorite bars are  not 'boy' bars - Moonlight, Hot Male, Jupiter , Banana and Tawan. It must be my lesbian thing or something

So I gave Banana until about 11.  A few dancers closer to the twink look did join in but yeah, none that got my juices flowing. The twink waitstaff had some promise, and I know I can off them, but the night could've been a win if they were part of the show.
I popped my head into 2 others and kept moving... Jupiter had a drag show and no guys in sight.  And Tawan... I DID see 3 guys but none that I'd reply to on Grindr.  So yeah it was a short night. I almost popped back into see the muscle twink from last night at Super A but just called it a night.  Again, don't read in to my not getting into these places. When you put it that way...it certainly sounds like it.  LOL.  I will soon find out.  Departure date is just around the corner.  Been trying to learn a little of the language via an app on my phone.  I will do better with in person language exchange with others once there, I think.  Hoping t o meet in person with expats from online Facebook group in both Siem Reap and Battambang.  It appears I already have family anxiously awaiting my arrival...or as several on the forum might suggest...awaiting my wallet.
