When I was last in Bangkok, April '26 the bangkok symphony orchestra was putting on concerts in Lumphini park on a sunday afternoon. I suspect it doesn't happen year round, but no harm in asking at your hotel reception

I've spent around 14 months in malaysia over the last 2 years, if you are a gay traveller this is not a destination to choose for a gay holiday. The Quarter by UHD Saladaeng is in my experience, somewhere I will never stay again. It's only merit is it's location. We checked in very much looking forward to our “executive suite’ The last 9 months hadn’t been the most comfortable so anything executive sounded like a win win… We opened the door of the suite to find a very disappointing room. It was large, but really, a table and two old chairs, no sofa, a funny little ‘office desk’ with a fake brass lamp? Are you fucking kidding me? For a month? This place hasn’t seen anything new since 1972… look at the state of it…so tired…. Not executive by my standards…. OK so maybe the hotel photos are misleading on booking dot com and I’m not checking what the room actually has as I hit OK on the checkout. I went down to reception and explained I wasn’t happy, I am here for a month, I’ve just forked out 69.445 baht for this, I want a fucking sofa, we can’t spend a month with just a table and two chairs! The chap at reception understood my dilemma, checked his screen and found us a room much the same but with at least, a window sofa seat kind of arrangement, I didn’t have much choice but to take it…… The laundry is a rip off, I did not like seeing a cockroach among the ham and sauage on my one of two breakfasts, breakfast is fucking disgusting, to put it midly. On a side note, I have seen a number of asian porn movies made in the rooms at the hotel, I recognised the orange window seat and bedroom.

Border hop time again. We decided to give Thailand a miss and went for a three month say in DaNang. Getting the visa was easy, online application £20 fee and your details, address flight passport etc etc. Arrived in four days by email. We have rented an apartment on My Khe beach front and the first thing that caught us out was the construstion noise next door, it's been a month of hammer drilling which is now over thank goodness. 8am to 5pm. There are people on YT who suggest noise can be a problem but until you actually arrive at your destination I'm not sure how you can know in advance. Google maps doesn't update often enough to help. The demolished building is still a hotel on google maps. We haven't come for 'Gay Danang' to be honest there's not a lot here for two older men. That said we have found a couple of bars and the Gentlemans sauna HOI AN 'LIVING COLOURS' a very friendly gay bar, we got tipsy there a couple of evenings during our weekend stay, everyone seemed really friendly. It wasn't difficult to strike up conversations and enjoy a few drinks. They do kareoke and drag but not on the nights we were there. The two chaps who run the place are very nice and very friendly, as has been said in thier google reviews. Well worth a visit, we will return. I care about cleanliness behind the bar and the way cocktails are prepared really stood out here. First Class. DANANG QBAR Quite a small bar and not particularly comfortable, the bar staff were very friendly. No draught beer, just cans. We sat outside so we could smoke, inside was busy but not the sort of bar where we found it as easy to chat to strangers as we found at 'Living Colours' A few table and chairs so once seated the patron chatted to themselves, Probably won't go again. It was quite something to be sitting outside smoking and as one barman arrived we heard him announce to his buddy that he did indeed have a UTI. I'm glad it wasn't my slice of lime he manhandled in to a cocktail as I stood at the bar getting my beer. Not overly happy with the standard of hygiene at the small sink behind the bar. The bar is located a 10/15 minute drive from the heart of the touristy beach area. GENTLEMANS SAUNA DANANG. This has mixed reviews on google so here's my honest opinion as a 'sauna whore' for most of my adult life. We went yesterday (saturday) 5pm -8pm it was busy with a wide mix of ages and body types and nationalities. As you enter there are changing lockers to the right, you are only provided with what can best be described as a flannel. No towel to cover your modesty or dry off with at the end of your stay. TOP TIP. Take your own towel for drying off before you leave. The flannel serves no real purpose, I honestly thought it was a bit daft the way chaps were holding said flannel over thier cock as they wander around covering thier modesty. I chose the sluttier option and just wandered naked, doing my best to hold in my beer belly. Fuck it. Lifes to short. It is very dimly lit so it's not like you're walking around stark bollock naked in homophobic lighting. On the ground floor a small steam roon and dry sauna and communal shower area. The small steam room is a classic free for all grope and suck and mingle. It was a constant stream of men in and out, no real action in the sense of 'orgy' but it was busy. The two upper floors have a combination of dimly lit single rooms and open larger rooms, the stairs could prove fatal if you're not careful, marble surface and wet flip flops are not a great mix, so take care as it is not well lit. (flip flops provided depending on how you feel about wearing them not knowing who else has worn them) I think being barefoot could prove even more slippery. Once your eyes adjust the lighting is perfect. The chap who runs it is very friendly, there is some refreshment, beer with a ton of ice in it or a soft drink in those dispensers you often see at a large gathering in a restaurant, and some very small plastic cups, and a table with sliced fruit are free. We went by Grab and being modest, not wanting to startle the driver, we chose our drop off point as 'Kims House Homestay' which is just a couple of doors away. We did have a short wait when we Grabbed home as there were not so many drivers available, theres a nice coffe bar on the corner at the end of the street to sit and wait, ALLY COFFE' It's a 15 minute ride from 'tourist central' at the beach where we are staying. We will certainly go back, reviews on google suggest many people don't like being touched in a dark steamroom, I would say to them if that's not your sort of thing then don't go. It's a gay sauna and in all my sauna years I would expect nothing less than some random stranger touching my cock or feeling my butt while jammed up against 10 other men in a dark steam room. There is LOCAL PAY app which is widely accepted but from my understanding you have to buy bitcoin to top it up, I'm not up for dabbling in bitcoin so chose not to use it. VP Bank doesn't have withdrawl charges but the ATM's I found were limited to 2 million (Danang and Hoi An) where as if you don't mind paying around £10 in ATM and WISE charge combined I find it easier to use the nearest cashpoint and take out 5 million. The grab ride to my nearest VP ATM is a £5 return journey.... and bear in mind that you only get a couple of charge free withdrawls per month from WISE as it is. We're here until the first week of Sept and then back to Penang, we've decided/booked Chiang Mai for the next border hop in December.

The park is a real attraction for us. Cats and men in shorts. In malaysia we rescue stray cats that live on our estate, heartbreaking at times but highly rewarding. And given that the photo's on booking dot com are quite deceptive, I stupidly assumed the deluxe suite sofa was too big to photograph! 'room service' here is a change of towels and bedding, pop in a new toilet roll, adding two small bottles of water to the fridge and checking to see if you drank the alcohol, then a wipe and dust and quick push with a floor mop. You can put up a do not disturb to avoid the intrusion. The lady who usually does our room is very diligent and very sweet. The apartment we have rented in Pattaya looks much nicer, a proper kitchen, balcony, washing machine, large sofa in the photos, large bed, added bonus, half the price of what we paid for the quarter.

Another mention about facilities at the Quarter, the laundry. If you're staying here a while you will probably want to use it. It's on the second floor. As we speak there are two washing machines and two old tumble driers, only one dryer working while we are here, both were out of action for a week at one point. 60 baht for a one hour cold wash, supply your own detergent. 80 baht for a 45 minute dry, which is near cold, so likely you will need to do two dries if you want proper dry laundry. Change available from reception. Machines only accept 10 baht coins. There is a laundry service and from memory it's around 1200 baht for 20 items, or something like that.

It would seem other folk also need to put up with your rude comments so I am glad I'm not alone in that.

I expect a sofa in an 'executive suite' or at the very least a comfy armchair to relax in, not just a table and two really hard old wobbly dining chairs. We are here for a month, not overnight. I'll forgive your other rude comments this once as you have never met me or my husband. We are paying a little more than 1800 baht a night (rightly or wrongly) but that doesn't excuse not having a place to sit comfortably and watch tv or relax. Checking my booking dot com as I type this, I see I have actually booked a 'one bedroom deluxe suite' The word 'deluxe' suggests some level of comfort... It is supposed to be a four star hotel. So explain to me why I should be happy with just a table and two wobbly hard chairs and no where else to 'deluxe' sit my cheap charlie arse down No sign of a microwave unless I go down to the laundry..... nothing kitchen like in this room apart from a small kettle and fridge. And if you're happy that breakfast includes a swimming contest with a cockroach, fake ham and soggy wet sausages, sitting in warm water, I salute your advanced level of hotel knowledge in BKK

Thank You. The breakfast is not even 1 star in my humble opinion. Scrambled eggs and coffe is about the only thing worth having, on the two occassions we did pay, we even had to clear our own table to be able to sit down and eat. A glance in the kitchen made me feel ill. The choice available is really very poor. We've taken to buying fruit and advocado at TOPS and having that for breakfast, and right next door to the Quarter is a small food stall that does two friend eggs for 20 baht. Put a fried egg on a fried rice if you are hungry, very cheap and quite enjoyable... Around the corner on Saldaeng Road there is a very busy food court but if you time it as the lunch rush ends, (it gets insanely busy around noon) around 1pm, there's a huge selection of stalls, I do like a won ton mee or a stir friend chicken and veg for lunch. Very cheap, pay with cash or QR code. Paying 299 baht for the Quarter breakfast is ridiculous considering what is available. There has been a very grumpy old american ex navy chap staying here, I passed comment about the state of breakfast to him, his reply was simple... Whoever gave this place four stars can't count.... Lumphini park is just fabulous, and having so many men jog past in tiny shorts is a joy to behold. The cats are a huge attraction for us.

One thing I should mention is the Touch and Go app. It's a real bonus to have it. I use Wise out here for all my currency changes and payments with the wise card. Many shopping mall food courts don't accept cash, and very many places I've found it easier to pay with a QR code. You have to use a ticket machine at places like the basement food court at Dusit, to get a bit of paper with a QR code to scan to pay and then get a refund if you don't spend the value of the token. with TnG app you can scan to pay at any of the food stalls and avoid the ticket machine queues and having to get a refund. It takes a day to set up the TnG app, confirm your ID with a passport photo and selfie in the app. Once it is confirmed you will find a DUIT code in the app, add that code to your wise account in the Wise app, then you can send money to yourself in the TnG app as you wish and very easily pay anything with a QR code. Topping up your TnG balance as needed. It works across several different countries but there is a small charge to send money to the app, well worth it for the convenience imo. As an example, I've woken up stupidly early, don't want to wake fabulous him up with a loud boiling kettle for coffe, so I used my phone to my to scan the QR code on the coffe machine outside while smoking. The cafe downstairs is also cashless and the egg and bacon bagel is a must have... I've lost count the number of places I've paid with TnG instead of cash or card....

We found out using Google search for cruising in bkk. We needed to leave Malaysia, my visa was about to expire. We’re living in a family owned apartment in Penang, been there since April after our last border hop to Hat Yai for a month. We’ve been in Malaysia on and off since sept 2024 after we left the uk as I retired…. Sure enough an hour later we are smoking and he is there…. He has to leave the hotel in the morning but doesn’t fly home to Indonesia until the 15th and is not sure what he is going to do. That set alarm bells ringing on my wise app balance so we made our excuses, wished him well with a pat on the back, and retreated to our room…. Bangkok is amazing, the Quarter staff are amazing. My best guess, working for UHG (urban hospitality group) is not an easy number. The boys on the reception are 5 star kind and truly remarkably kind. Avoid the breakfast at all costs. I doubt we will stay at the Quarter again but visiting BKK again may well happen. We are off to Pattaya soon, one month in BKK is enough for two old fossils, we have decided to be complete sluts at the Sansuk sauna where we can just play with some cocks and bums in the dark and not have to engage in conversation about the color of curtains or choice of fried or boiled eggs for breakfast…… Thank You Bangkok, it’s been really nice apart from having a cold. Meeting the You Tube Roti lady was special, food can be very expensive but food courts do exist, you can eat very cheap if you want to. The boys that stand outside Infinity bar are delicious, kind and very nice, thank you to them for making us feel welcome on our 5 or six visits... it's the only place we drink... The location of the quarter is perfect but it is tired and could do with some investing the comfort of some rooms, housekeeping are brilliant, be aware the little tins of beer in the fridge are 100 baht each but big cans of beer at TOPS are only 50 baht, so if you drink the fridge dry, as I am tonight writing this, it's no alcohol day due to the voting, pop the 'do not disturb' sign up on your door in the morning, head to TOPS and buy the same little cans for 33 baht to put back in the fridge so you don't get charged.... The bed is very comfortable, the window seat will break your back but it will fit two of you and a MB sitting on your face.... the shower could be a little hotter, the bath takes 20 mins to fill. You get 2 little bottles of water a day for free but you can boil the tap water for tea and coffe and not get the screaming shits. Cheers for now. Mike and Chun.
